  1. We have two courses here at our club in South Central Pennsylvania (Oenn National Golf Club) and the club keeps one open all year. Obviously there are days when it’s closed due to temperature or snow but it stays mostly open. I was able to play on it Dec thru March. Our other course opened this month.
  2. As of right now it will be my Ping G425 LST with a stock regular shaft (I tried others at the fitting but in the end hit the stock shaft best). I hit it good and consistent so it’s my gamer. But…I’m starting to feel like I’d like to pick up a little more distance. Thinking about the G430 Max or Max 10k but I’ll let any fitting I do lead the way!
  3. - Slow players or groups who will not let me or my group play through. You can be slow. Just don’t make us slow too. - Lots of anger on the course. I’m there to relax and enjoy the day not to watch you have a meltdown. I once played with a guy who hit a big slice into the rough. Totally lost it, snapped the shaft of a brand new driver over his knee and threw the pieces at his cart. I vowed to never play with him again. A miserable day with a toddler.
  4. Courses that make me think about my shots. Challenging but fair. Well maintained, especially greens and tees. Tough that is not US Open length (a pet peeve). Decent clubhouse where I can get a cold beer and a burger after my round.
  5. Shot of the day from yesterday... 9th hole on Iron Forge at Penn National Golf . Pushed my drive right into a fairway bunker (we call it Mickey Mouse because of its shape) . 145 yds to the pin at the left center of the green. Choked down on a 6 iron and caught it clean with a little cut to four feet. Knocked in the birdie to give me my low nine hole score for the past year. Nice feeling
  6. Recently put an Axis1 with a Flat Cat grip into play. So far I really like the balance and the grip is really helping with keeping my hands and wrists square to the line on my downswing/follow through. Previously I was gaming an Odyssey Bird of Prey. Liked it but never really could get used to it and started to make adjustments and list my way. My putting got worse and really list my feel and tempo. Big goal is to fix my putting this year. Could easily pick up 3 ,4 or even more strokes just by cleaning it up. (Yeah, it got that bad last year).
  7. I play the PW (43 degrees) and AW (46 degrees) from my iron set (Callaway Rogue ST Max) with Project X LZ 105 s.5 shafts plus a Cleveland CBX2 52 degrees, TT Dynamic Gold 115; Cleveland SmartSole 58 degrees, stock shaft. I'm thinking about dropping the46 degree AW as I very rarely play it. Playing with the idea of adding a 5 hybrid or 5 wood to the bag instead.
  8. I usually play in the morning but I'm certainly not a first off the tee guy. Prefer something around 8:30-9:00 as I like to spend some time warming up including some putting and chipping. I have a regular neighborhood group that plays Tues and Thurs but also mix in at least 1-2 more times a week depending how busy I am with family, etc.. Nice to be retired. Still playing here in PA in spite of the winter. Been trying to get out 1-2 times per week weather permitting.
  9. DTC ball comparison, quality as well as performance (distance, spin, etc.). Lots of offerings in this sector. It would be nice to put them head to head. You covered many of them in your 2023 test but there are many more offerings out there. Who's claims match up to testing?, Maxfli, Kirkland, Snell, Vice, Inesis, Cut, Seed, OnCore, ODIN, Volvik, Quantix, Piper, Wilson, etc..
  10. I’ll be playing ProV1 since I have some still left from last year. Once I use those up I’m considering either Snell or Maxfli (models TBD).
  11. My top three: 1. Pebble Beach 2. St. Andrew's Old Course 3. Congaree, SC
  12. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I've been playing golf for over 50 years. I'm currentlu a 14 handicap. What do you love about golf? Mostly the camaraderie but also just an enjoyment of being outside. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? Iwas first attracted to MyGolfSpy by the testing and tat remains my favorite thing about the site. I don't know any other Spies but I have recommended the site to may others (not sure if they've joined. Where are you from? What is your home course? Currently living in Pennsylvania although I grew up in Massachusetts. I am a member at Penn National in Fayetteville, PA. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best: Relatively inexpensive and plenty of opportunities to play. Worst: Winter. I'll play when i can through the winter but it definitely cuts into my game. What do you do for a living? Retired Army Officer, College professor, and former Fed. How’d you pick your user name? Nothing special.
  13. Just picked up a Axis1 Rose putter with a FlatCat grip. I have been having trouble keeping my putter face square so I thought I'd give this combo a try. Picked one up for only $279 on eBay. Used but looks brand new!
  14. I discovered MyGolfSpy when I was looking got reviews for new clubs. Your annual ball testing sealed the deal for me and I’ve been following the site ever since. I really appreciate your rational, analytical approach to equipment testing as well as other thought provoking articles. I’m a devoted reader and have referred many others to your site!
  15. Everything is safe in my bag with the possible exception of my 5 iron and putter (Odyssey Bird of Prey). I’m seriously considering a Ping G425 to replace my 5 iron. I have 3 and 4 Ping G425 hybrids now and hit them well. As far as the putter goes I’m considering a LAB Mezz.1 but really choking on the price. I have a tendency to twist the putter in my hands and apparently the LAB putters address this problem better than most. Definitely have to test drive one first.
