  1. I have been using GW build-up tape with great success after a couple failures using regular masking tape.
  2. I guess I'm coming into the game late. I haven't played for over 5 years. The giant driver heads were coming in, but I never saw any of the adjustable things. And the long shafts are another thing. I went to a fitting today and totally embarrassed myself with almost every driver I tried. The last time I hit an awesome drive was with an old Great Big Bertha. It's tiny compared the these things they're playing these days. I wish I still had the GBB.
  3. I have been on both sides of this subject, unwillingly on one side, because I was with family at times. No matter how much you try, some family members can never be convinced to play faster because "I paid my greens fees just like everybody else". It doesn't matter if you're walking or riding. Stuck behind one of those groups? Invent some games to play on the tee. You might even find yourselves holding up the group behind you or entertaining the crap out of them.
  4. To me, this is an odd thread. For a number of years when I was stationed in Florida for a couple of tours in the Navy, I never cleaned my grips, despite the humidity I experienced there. For a number of years, I suppose it was because I was using full cord grips, which, to this day, over 30 years later, are quite serviceable(Lambkin V-grip cords. I wish they still made them). IMHO, excessive cleaning only accelerates the wear on grips, which should normally be changed on a regular basis anyway Not cleaning hats gives them character. Never saw the need to do it and never will.
  5. What an odd post, referring to the conservative thing. I didn't feel like I was taking any chances. Just ordered some plastic Maxfli tees from Amazon, mostly because there are long and short. I'l see how it goes.
  6. How ironic is it that touching things during COVID was mostly proved to be inconsequential. I work in a VA hospital and I can say the paranoia over things like this was way overblown.
  7. I keep wood tees in my pocket, but for many tee shots, especially on a course where Mostly hit irons, I'll try to find a broken wood tee around the tee box. I know you can buy short wooden tees, but I feel better re-using something that someone left behind and didn't bother to clean up after themselves.
  8. Misprint on the weight variation (late night). The shafts varied in weight from 117.0g to 120.0g. The NEW shafts are Project X RIFLE 105GR/5.5 Tour Flighted.
  9. I bought a set of irons on eBay that are similar to Ping Zings. I built a set of them back in the mid 90's when I lived in Jacksonville Florida. They are awesome. I decided to try to duplicate the clubs I built from this guy using similar parts. I originally used Rifle 6.5 shafts, which are much too stiff for me now. I bought the next best thing available to replace them, but the set I got varies wildly in weight, iIMHO. 170g to 120g. Maybe that doesn't seem like that much, but I'd some opinions on how I should distribute the shafts in my set. My observations, upon weighing the shafts raw, is that the most weight appears to be mostly in the head end of the shafts. Before I start tip trimming the shafts, are there any opinions on how I should distribute the shafts.
  10. I see many people here responding that they would never concede a birdie putt. I suspect many of us on this forum are like me and putting for par or bogey is regular thing, and just as difficult as a birdie putt, so let's get rid of the bullshit. Any putt is as important as any other. Would you concede the longest drive to another player? Closest to the pin? I suggest we all just play the game and finish every hole the way it was meant to be played. Some of those devious course designers put those holes in places for a reason, and I fully intend to curse them out every time I get the chance.
  11. To anyone that advocates a gimme putt for the sake of speed of play, BULLSHIT! The few seconds it may take to line up a putt like that will not speed up play, even in a casual round on most any golf course. There are some professional players out there that can get pretty ridiculous, but for the most part, most players are reasonable. Those that aren't are only trying to piss you off.
  12. One of the best things that ever happened to me was playing in a league when I was stationed at a Navy base in Florida. Every Saturday morning we held a group outing, usually around 130 of us, playing a modified Stableford system. What was understood throughout the league was that there NO GIMME PUTTS! Every hole had to be holed out. And this was back in the day when the flag couldn't be in the hole. It was part of the best time in my golf life. Gimme is okay for friendly rounds, but if you're playing for something (even if it's almost nothing), I don't like it.
  13. After some further research, it turns out that most of the grips (Golf Pride, anyway) that you can find on eBay at such great prices are counterfeit. Won't be doing that anymore. What's that old saying? If it seems too good to be true...
  14. I just got a set of MCC +4 midsize grips and the average weight is around 72+ grams. Is this enough to really throw off the swing weight of clubs and what is the best way to compensate for it? I've tried using JumboMax UltraLite grips, but I'm not having much success with them. Thought I'd try these and got a good price on eBay. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. I have had the unfortunate experience to play with relatives that really suck and don't care about anything. They think that the fact that they paid their green fees and paid for a cart give them carte blanche to do whatever they want on th course. To this day, I'd love to kick his f****** ignorant ass.. The course we were playing was NOT conducive to walking. I love pushing my cart, even into my late 60's. I remember playing 18 holes in under 2 1/2 hours when I was stationed in Jacksonville. I can't wait to go back.
