Proud to report @BrightFairways @MaxEntropy @WillRowland I represented Team Net Birdie well, recording a net birdie on 1/2 the holes on the course. The other 9 holes played left something to be desired, particularly 3-putting #9 and #18 to back my way into a 38-41 for +9 79.

The 'do your research' part is tough. There's SO MUCH misinformation out there, most of it is just well-intentioned noise. The marketing for golf balls has been about the only science that consumers have had access to and only (relatively) recently has there been any concerted effort at cutting through the marketing to actually understand the science of a golf ball.
Case in point: "soft" does not equal "spin." But we've been totally conditioned to think that if a ball is "soft" then it will grip the grooves and spin more around the greens. We typically see firmer golf balls spinning more than softer golf balls (apples to apples) because it's easier to construct a softer layer over a firmer one, generating spin. BUT the marketing is still strong that if you really want a ball with greenside spin, pick a soft one... It's just not true! And brand-to-brand, model-to-model there are even more nuances and idiosyncrasies!
So yes, do your research. But make sure "research" isn't just reading whatever the marketing guys are putting on the back of the box.
