  1. I’m currently a Arccos subscriber. At one point, I even had the link V2, but it fell off during a round, and I have not replaced it. I didn’t pay for the sensors, so the subscription fee is the only money I have into it, though I’m not generally a fan of subscription fees for hardware. my biggest gripe about the app is the inability to use other Bluetooth sound devices while Arccos is being used as a reader during the round. I enjoy the statistics, though as someone who’s game is rapidly improving, I do find the club suggestions to be off sometimes.
  2. Although I’m a new member to the forum, I think I’ve shown my ability to do a write up fairly well in my unofficial Kirkland Driver review thread. And although the original post doesn’t have any photos, there were detail photos posted later in the thread during the review process. My background includes many years as a manager and tech at a small local paintball shop, so I’m used to looking for small details when initially unboxing a product, as well as familiar enough around tools that are used across niche sports. I currently work in IT, so anything technology related is right up my alley as well. As it’s for an airline, I also get to travel far more than the average person. In the last month, I have played rounds in Chicago, Australia, and Mexico. As a new golfer (~11 months in) think I bring a different perspective than those who have been playing for a long time.

  4. To be fair, in more recent history we had the Perez-Hamilton battle in 2021 Abu Dhabi. I believe Hamilton called it “dangerous driving” (though he was obviously trying to persuade the stewards for a penalty in doing so) I think your last line hits on the underlying issue. No matter how much the stewards may say that the outcome had nothing to do with the penalty, no human is ever going to be able to see Russell’s car on the side in the middle of a fast corner, and not have that affect their decision-making on Alonso situation
  5. I'll admit, in terms of Alonso's penalty, my initial reaction was confusion. Reading the Steward's decision though... I'm surprised 20s was all he got. You can't slow down early, speed back up, and then slow down again for the corner.
  6. The head is salvageable, though I was never able to test the mizuno shaft theory, so I’m unclear just how easy a replacement would be. I could probably drill out the remnants of the stock shaft from the stock adaptor and put the adaptor on a new shaft, but that rather defeats the purpose of this driver ($200 cost) My current plan is to go to my local warehouse and return it, and as the driver has not been in stock in some time, I doubt there will be a replacement option given. if it magically were offered, I don’t know that I would take them up on it. Dont get me wrong, as I don’t mean to badmouth Kirkland here, but I just don’t have the confidence in the product given the manner in which it failed. It’s possible (likely even!) that I am the only person who’s broken one and maybe even the only one who will, but my brain won’t be comfortable swinging that same shaft/head combo again.
  7. It’s definitely eligible for a refund, but replacement seems out of the question while the driver has been out of stock for some time.
  8. I’m afraid I have to inform the forum that I will not be continuing the review with new numbers. Playing this past Sunday, I had the shaft absolutely shatter on a drive. For what it’s worth, I don’t believe I hit the shaft against the ball as the ball itself did go some 190 yards. I also don’t believe that a single instance of a shaft snapping means that there’s a massive issue with the product - just that my particular shaft had some sort of issue Pictures of the damage:
  9. The numbers were italicized, so definitely estimated. The tour response isn’t completely white, so I don’t know how much of an effect that has on the Trackman numbers. Having said that, the spin numbers on the Kirkland signature & non-rct v1x are close to what I see when I have used an RCT, but I’ve never used one with the edge. The edge definitely ballooned quite a bit when I gamed it last year, but it’s hard to tell if that was the driver, me, or some combination of the two. If I manage to find a sleeve of RCT balls, I’ll be sure to update the review.

  11. A proper loft sleeve would be nice. The adjustment is a matter of completely removing the shaft, and re-orienting it to re-align with whatever setting (Standard, 10.5Draw, +1 and -1 loft). In other words, unlike Titleist's sleeves where loft and lie are independent of one another , the KSig can't be adjusted to a draw biased 9.5 degree. It also meant that when I tried 10.5D, the logo on the shaft was face up at address. I ended up not sticking with 10.5D, as there seems to be enough of a draw bias on the club that 10.5D caused left misses that were too far left, but had that been the setting I stuck with, the upward logo would have been displeasing to my eyes. Having said that -- for the price, it's hard to fault the approach. As someone with the KSig wedges, I understood the approach going in -- we get what they give us, at a lower price point than anything else, and you're stuck with it. I would love to at least try, but I'm not sure that any fitter would have a shaft with a sleeve that works with the head. For reference, here's the head and shaft end: I've not tried the supersofts. I may end up picking up a box for science's sake. I really do like the tour response, and the putting alignment is kind of nice.
  12. After a Golf trip with 3 rounds, and a couple months in the sim, I feel ready to write a review of the Kirkland Signature driver. I have the regular flex version. No club pictures below, as there are plenty floating around the internet, and I'm embarrassed about the skymark that's currently on the crown A quick word about me: I started playing in 2023, and have all of 6 hours worth of lessons this winter. Inconsistency is the only consistent thing about my golf game. I can score mid 90s or 120, depending on the day. (The handicap in my profile is from Arccos, as this will be my first year on GHIN). My previous driver was the box set driver that comes with the Costco Callaway Edge set, so this is also a likely upgrade path for anyone who doesn’t want to spend $400-$600 on a new driver and has a Costco membership. At $200, it’s tough to say no to at least trying the damn thing out. I’ve demoed Stealth, Stealth2, and 2023 Paradym drivers. I’ve played a round with the 2024 AI Smoke. In the hands and at address, the KSig definitely feels good and compares favorably to the drivers three times its price, though the Lamkin Crossline 360 grip isn’t my favorite, but it’s definitely not a slouch. The graphics on the shaft aren't my favorite, but not to the point they distract while on the course. I could keep writing about feel or other subjective things, but that’s not how I like to make my decisions. So I took it, along with my old driver, to my local PGATSS and got in a Trackman bay for a look at the cold hard numbers. I used two ball types: Callaway Chrome Soft (2022) and Taylormade Tour Response, as they were my gamer balls last year. Please note neither of these were RCT balls, as I didn’t have any that day. Also, the Trackman tags say supersoft, but that was my brain not working during the test, and they are Chrome Soft balls. Test order was KSig CS, Edge CS, KSig TR, Edge TR. I threw out any swings that were clearly my fault (I topped a couple of shots) or where Trackman didn’t capture all of the data. Head to head, here are the averages: Chrome Soft: Tour Response: I do notice the drop off in club speed between the two drivers, and while it cannot be ignored, I attribute it to being more afraid to let the Edge rip, as that has produced some of the worst slices I’ve ever seen. I’m more comfortable with the KSig. As far as the club path, I have no idea why there’s such a disparity (consistently inconsistent, remember?). Looking at the numbers, it’s clear the KSig is the better of the two, for me. I’ll try to get into the bays with my playing partner’s AI Smoke and update the review, if I can. I also did a bit of ball testing with a V1x and a V1x Left Dash, as I wanted to see if the price difference was worth it. This was a week or so later, and since I have the data, you get it, too: V1x: Left Dash: In closing: Will the KSig stay in my bag? Sure. For now. I don’t feel the need to update my driver as much as I did before. I have a full bag fitting in about a month or so, where I’ll look at the other options to decide if it’ll stay in the bag all winter, or if this was just a fun thought experiment.
  13. I like the Tour Response, but not the multipack. Have you looked at the blue/pink color yet? It suffers from the same mediocre print job, but at least to my colorblind eyes, it does help a bit with spotting it in the rough.

There's a fair number of golf courses down that way, and we just got back from playing three, though all three are about an hour away from your hotel in Playa Del Carmen and there are closer options for you. As mentioned upthread, definitely reach out to your hotel and see if they partner with anyone. My usual hotel does, and the greens fees are about 100 less than the public fees when booked through the hotel, and include transportation. In order of my favorite, to least favorite: El Camaleon Mayakoba. Unfortunately, it is *very* expensive for the area at ~$350 USD, not including caddies or rentals. But it's the best course in the area. Used to be a PGA Tour stop, now it's the LIV Opener. Amazing groundskeeping, appropriately challenging tees for all skill levels, and staff that will do whatever is within their power to make your experience worth it. They were also very strict about dress code, which you may not want to deal with on vacation. Pace of play was essentially as fast as we wanted it to be, as the caddys do a good job of coordinating faster groups playing through. Gran Coyote. Published rate is $280, but some hotels have deals for cheaper. Solid course, though pace of play was a bit slow on a late Saturday morning. GPS Carts with the pins marked, cooler with a water per person included. Cooling towel at the end of the round is a nice touch. Hard Rock. Prices vary and you can sometimes find a hot deal on Golf Now for ~$115. The course itself is fun, and the greens fees are "all inclusive" -- that means you don't pay for any refreshments. Beer was Corona, tequila was Centenario on the carts. 19th hole was included -- lunch and breakfast if your tee time is early enough. Because of the AI though, if you're not one of the first ones out, expect a LONG round. Posted pace of play is 4:36, but does exceed that if you start at 10ish. If you have the second tee time as we did, and it's still dark, they expect you to tee off in the dark as the group in front of you is using their phone flashlights to find balls in the fairway. I wish I was kidding. I'd say aim for an 8am or so and hope for the best, or be prepared for a long day and treat it as such.
  15. I just took my first golf trip, and chose to buy an SKB hard case, instead of the Club Glove that everyone seems to have. As an airline employee, I spend a ton of time obsessing over luggage (it gets used frequently), and tend to be a bit "extra". Two main reasons I went hard case: Some airlines will not cover damage to soft cases, or to anything contained inside of them. One even has you sign a waiver (or, the employees are supposed to, anyways). I don't care so much about my current clubs, but eventually I'll have nice clubs and don't want to buy two cases. Having seen baggage sorting rooms first hand... no way I ever put anything soft sided through them. Loose straps can easily be caught, and then your bag sits there and gets sanded down until an overworked and underpaid employee notices. If you're lucky, maybe some cosmetic damage. If you're very unlucky, there goes your travel bag, your golf bag, and maybe even a club or two. And as mentioned, the airlines won't pay you a cent. As far as the SKB is concerned... the latches are top notch. The wheels are not. It's fairly heavy (18lbs) but my Vessel Cart bag, clubs, shoes, balls, etc weighed in at 53 pounds. If your weight limit is 50, one can easily move balls and shoes to make weight. I do also put a stiff arm in there, to brace the cart bag inside of the travel case, should (when?) any rough handling occur.
