  1. @Rob Person ah. I see. I think I put too much tape on the shaft. I should have left a half inch or so for the grip to actually be on the shaft. I’ve noticed with the Star Grips you can almost “stretch” them out a bit while putting them on. Like squeezing out the last bit of toothpaste out of the tube. And in doing so makes them fit a bit longer. i found I had to do this some times to feel like grips was completely on
  2. @Prodigal Duffer I would compare the texture of the Tour Stars more along the lines of the current Tour Wrap offered from Golf Pride. with the MCCs our top hand was subject to a more corded feeling. And the bottom hand a bit more rubber. I think the bottom hand feeling is more along the lines of what you would get for the whole grip of a Tour Star. If you do consider the wrap style grips I would consider the Classic Wrap from Star Grips as it comes in midsize. And you can easily add a few wraps of tape underneath to get a midsize MCC + 4 feeling. The Tour Stars I have on are less tapered but currently have 4 full length wraps of tape to build them up to a midsize grip. as for the (for lack of better term “alignment”) aids on the MCCs. The beauty of the Star Grips is your adjust ability. I believe they are all moulded the same way, so the logo on the tops all match one another. And where the wrap starts to head down the grips is the same too. My point being that if you say put a grip on just to get it on and find yourself not liking how the wraps feel in your hand, you can quickly blow it off and rotate the grip a quarter turn either way and try again. mine are all set to have the star grips logo reading in the upright position when looking down the club. My hands, and more specifically my right thumb (being a lefty) fits perfectly on the 5th or 6th wrap. And this stays true for every grips through the iron set so I know I’m not choked down too much. As well as having the same feeling for each grip. yes it might be a bit tedious, but you can really get creative with the way you want your hands and fingers to feel locked in on the grip. I’ve tossed this in here showing the difference between a standard size (blue tour star) and midsize mcc4. The corded top half off the MCC is rough. The rubber bottom half is more aligned with how the Star Grips feel.
  3. @CB Lobo 4 Life this test between clubs has been on my mind since reading everyone’s intros. I’ve always been curious about the Srixon soles and how they match against anything out there. really looking forward to more tests. Sounds like the Haywood CB’s might be close but the MB’s may fall behind.
  4. Push down of the grip? Like in the case of doing normal ones you would tap it on the ground to make sure it’s on all the way? I found that when I put the rubber club grip on the shaft I would use that to make sure the grip was on all the way.
  5. FINAL REVIEW IS UP! I mentioned it at the end of the review but I'd like to just give another huge shout out and thank you to the MGS staff for the chance to review something, as well as my fellow reviewers and all of you following along! I'll be sure to keep you all posted with updates as more rounds get played. And if there are any more questions or tests that need to be addressed feel free to let me know! Thank you all again!! LV!!
  6. Congrats testers. Interested to see your fitting processes!
  7. hoping that this shows us this week. Didn’t purchase, but was fortunate enough to win it in a masters contest. Going to do a full review and test when it shows up. I love how minimal it looks. Performance tests show it similar to the first gen stealth so it might be an upgrade over my ST200. Either way new is new!
  8. Took most of my grips off my irons to add a few layers of tape and build them up even more. My irons all have 4 wraps of 2”painters tape on them now. I found that the smaller profile was giving me hand cramps after extended testing sessions. Not a grip issue itself. Just a size issue. This is expected with the tour stars normal size profile compared to my sidewinders midsizing. Uninstall, taping, and reinstall took no more than 2 hours for everything. And they’re ready to hit today. Huge huge plus. I ended up taking a sidewinder off and making it a spare as I have a special club coming that I want to keep it available to put on to do a direct test. This turned into my dad wanting to give a few of them a spin as well. Since I have 18 ish clubs I’ll put in rotation a few of them have grips on and didn’t get the star grips. So I had the spare sidewinder and a tour star for him to test. He’s a long standing pure grips user so I’m interested to hear his thoughts after his round today. If the sidewinders are any indication of his liking, he responded with an “ohhh baby that is sweet” after installing and giving it a squeeze . Lastly, I’ve been trying my absolute hardest to find things I really don’t like about the grips. Since they tick nearly every box for me, I’m finding I have to get really nitpicky about things which I believe is okay. They may seem small and tedious but to others it might be a total “no for me dawg”. Looking forward to a final range session or a round to gather my last pictures and thoughts before wrapping the test up!
  9. Hopefully lando can hold on. Good to see a different mix of cars up there. For now lol
  10. Decided to clean the grips to see how they would feel after a good scrub. Used a proper grip tube grip cleaning tool and some mild soap. after cleaning them I left them wet and to no surprise they we awful to hold on to. I think this hold true for any grip so not worth docking any marks. I also put my rain gloves on and got them a little damp (as they work best like this) and they did make my hands feel secured on the grips. However, I will say that after a quick drying they were as tacky as they were we I first installed them. Surprising to me to be honest. I had hoped some of the tackiness would go away after scrubbing them. I went to play indoors after washing the grips and I fully believe that the new grip new glove combo I used in my first round outside equated to the feeling of the glove “sticking” to the grip during adjustments. I’m becoming more in tune with the way the Tour Stars feel on the irons. And I think I’ll be adding an extra 2 wraps of tape to build them up just a bit. My swing is more of an issue than using new grips so heading into the final review time I’ll try to remove my current game state from the equation as much as I can. Only if I feel the grip itself is making me feel a certain way on the course. Being a scratch golfer on the range and a 10 hdcp on the course leads me to believe it’s a me problem. Not a grip issue.
  11. @nupezb I actually ended up getting a shotscope H4 myself. Used it a few times. Just trying to get used to the tagging system
  12. Had a good range session today. Tried to work on all the things I did wrong on Friday. Work to do but at least I didn’t feel like I was a mile away from the ball. grips felt better today and I think with even more playing time the “glove/grip” issues will sort themselves out. not a whole lot of twisting in the hands. Felt like when I did make my adjustments I was making sure to fully let go with the grip hand to avoid the glove getting caught and had no issues. i was a dummy and took zero pictures today so I’ll have to go back to the range or go play at least once more before my final review
  13. @bama no 1 for sure this would benefit those who are gloveless. Or those who wear a glove and want that absolute feeling of connection
  14. Well the first round out was abysmal to say the least. Combination of a few things. One of which was new shoes making me around a half inch to 3/4 taller. Equating to alot of thin shots. The grips were..... Okay. Maybe playing inside on the sim takes away alot of the guessing for myself when it comes to "being square" to the target. But I found myself adjusting my hands (think schauffele before he swings) before the take away and found it really hard to feel like I was "set". Each time I would loosen and reset my glove hand I was finding the grip too tacky, and the glove would stick the the grip enough to when my micro hand adjustment meant that the glove stayed in place and my hand moved around. Maybe my glove is too big, maybe both the grips and glove being new just made for a super sticky combo. I'm not sure. But there were more than a few times where my hands felt set, but my glove was twisted inbetween my hands and the grip, which was less than ideal when trying to hit drives and approach shots. I do this alot for all my shots, the micro adjustments, so having that sensation of the glove sticking to the grip was awkward and frustrating. Something to note about this is that it happened with both grips (tour Stars and sidewinders). I found my glove would stick more to the sidewinders than the tour Stars. Also the "sticking" of the glove mostly happened in the palm of my glove. It happened a bit on the fingers but I think I would take my fingers far enough away to create total separation. Trying to decided where I would put this in a final review "the sticking and such" but I'm chalking this up to brand new grips. Brand new glove. I think I'm going to take a grip washer and fully wash the grips to see if it lessens the tackiness. I do like the feelings of being connected with the handle, but feeling like I have to wrestle my hands with the grip to be set leaves much to be desired. Hopeful to get at least a few more rounds in before the final review!
