  1. Green Valley Ranch outside of Denver -- HIghFade picked it out - great golf course!  I mean, except for the back 9.  The back 9 sucked.

Can't wait to get back and do it again!  Mr. & Mrs. HighFade are great company to golf with, and the after round bull session was a hoot!

  2. I got to learn how to line up my fourth putt from the expert himself. Thanks for a great round, Barbajo.

Same back atcha HighFade!  Good times and great company -- can't wait to do it again!

  3. Taken at Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson, Wi with an iPhone. It was a beautiful fall day about 2 years ago and the course was in great shape.

Been dying to give that one a try -- maybe we should take our Cobras down there for a test drive...

  4. I get what they're trying to say -- they're probably not altogether wrong, but boy, talk about telling your customer "you're not good enough!" I'm no genius, but I've been in the marketing end of my business long enough to know that you never want to give your customer the impression that your stuff is too sophisticated for the average Joe, or that somehow they're not equipped to make adjustments. Hell, when I guy it, it's MY freaking club - if I want to adjust it, let me!

It comes across as arrogant, but it sounds more like a very bad marketing justification for either an inability or refusal to design/manufacture an adjustable head.

  5.

I very politely said GFYS, HaHa.

Reminds me of the line from Argo!

    Y'know, I get the point of the contests/review requests. I think it's two-fold:

    1. To keep the regulars regular - keep us coming back

    2. Just as important - expand the subscription/membership base.

All those ads we're looking at are here because of the number of members & regular visitors to the MGS site. The more members, the better MGS looks to advertisers and this is, after all, a business. A passionate one, and one that's operated with a pretty high degree of integrity - but a business.

I guess there are always "contest ho's", but it goes with the territory...

  6. Would love to participate in this one!

    HDCP is 11

Currently gaming Ping i20 3 wood, Project X Black 6.0 shaft

Hybrids have been an ongoing search. Currently gaming Cleveland Mashie 3 and 4 hybrids, upgraded over the winter to Talamonti H-100 shafts from the stock C. Kua 59 gram shafts - both in stiff.

Also have a backup set of Weszty hybrids with Penley Stealth hybrid shafts in stiff.

Do have access to a launch monitor with my fitter/pro

EDIT: was warned that this original post didn't have an "ier" word in it. As any good correspondent knows - everyone needs an edit-ier. Especially a dumbass. Because for every dumbass, there is a someone who's dumbass-ier.

    Hope that's ballz-ier enough-ier

  7. This is OT but I don't wanna start a thread, obviously, & the regulars are on this thread so I gotta question. As you guys know, I misuse ellipses. I don't know where I picked up this habit, because as I've said, my computer knowledge is minimal as is my typing ability. My professional correspondence is gone over by my asst. who takes out the ellipses.

Anyway, are they annoying to ya? Seriously, if you just haven't said something to be kind, I really appreciate it, however if it's annoying, I'll stop using them.

    Thanx

    Fairways & Greens 4ever

    Doesn't bother me any...

    Don't eclipse the elipse!

  8. First time out on the course in a couple of weeks yesterday -- used driver mostly and had my straightest driving day of the year. Length? Not so much, but short and in play beats long and in the woods every day of the week.

Short game? A lot to little or a little too lot sums it up nicely, although had a handful of chips/pitches that left me in 1 putt territory -- working on "smooth" rather than "jab."

After a 3 putt bogey on 9 left me a little edgy - proceeded to triple-bogey 10 (the whole looks to easy but is my arch-nemesis). Thought of tossing the clubs in the lake after driving into a FW bunker on 11, but saved par. Parred the next 3, the finished bogey-par-bogey par.

Even had two "sandies" on the back -- leaving 2 foot putts both times.

Okay, so I won't give up the game just yet...

  9. Well, I'm off...8:12 tee time..Got invited Thursday to play in a Pro-Am mixed Best Ball..She's adorable & 34yo...Is that too young?...

There's a punch line in there somewhere. Go get 'em, and play well!

  10. Had a nice round yesterday...an even 80 ( 9 over for the course). Hot front 9 (2 over 38 with a couple of lipped putts and one wimpy 4' effort to save par on 9) - included a birdie after hitting into a fairway bunker. Clipped a nice 6 iron from 155 out of the sand to about 12 feet.

Back 9 started out as though the wheels were coming off. Hooked a drive on 10 into the weeds. 2nd shot was still in the weeds, 3rd shot advanced to the edge of the weeds. 4th shot was a 30 yard flop to 2 feet to save bogie (whew!). DB'd 11 from the middle of the fairway, TB'd 13 from the middle of the fairway, bogeyed the par 3 14th from the sand....and then parred in the rest of the way, making use of a 30 yard low-spinner on 18 that I learned from a video jmiller posted.

34 putts, 10 GIR's, 8 FW's hit, a few up n' downs...and the round had potential to be better. Can't wait for Sunday!

  11. I am about to depress everyone that is above a 10 handicap, I shot a score yesterday that was horrid for my standards. It was an 83 after handicap reduction (84 in reality). That was a 7.1 differential from the tees that I played, so that is sort of why I say that.

First off I had about 3 or 4 holes where I had iron swings that resembled a 30 handicap I topped them to be exact knee high to a midget or even ankle high on one it was pathetic. My short game didn't do so hot and putting just sucked. Let me just dive into the stats and why I wanted to shoot myself after the round.

    Fairways Hit ~ 11 of 14

    GIRs ~ 8 of 18

    Up/Down Saves ~ 3 of 7

    Sand Saves ~ 0 of 2

Putts ~ 36 total, four 3 putts (two lipped out), I played 19 different green speeds yesterday (practice green and 18 holes), each green with the same amount of slope and break with the exact same length of stroke resulted in 19 different distances, impossible to get in a groove.

Penalty Strokes ~ 1 (the only tee shot that really got away from me, big push fade)

In short all my full swing mistakes came from a fast transition / poor tempo. My short game shots that were not converted were mostly putting errors. The Penalty Stroke cost me Double Bogey (3 from the tee lost ball). I made my Triple from the f***ing center of the fairway on 16. Great drive, terrible 2nd into a bunker, left it short in another bunker, left that short of the green, pitched on and two putts later walked of the hole. Sorry just had to vent this one out, it just totally pissed me off to not break 80 when I drove the ball as well as I did there is no excuse for that at all.

Dude - that reads like one of my rounds!!!!

Well, except for the fairways hit...

  12. All I can say is: the ball don't lie!

Great front 9 - two over 38 with some nice up 'n downs - only 12 putts.

    Back 9 - A cluster-youknowwhat from the git go. Parred the 2 Par 3's, but 4 DB's and 2 bogeys did us in...back in 46.

When you play to an 11, you play to an 11. No kittens. No rainbows.

    The ball don't lie!

  13. Stopped drinking altogether in 1997 -- didn't have a problem with booze, but was a tad worried I could be headed in that direction. Tried not drinking for a week, then a month, then 3 months...it turned into a year and at that point it was just easier not to drink at all.

Got terribly dehydrated at a charity event 2 summers ago despite swigging down about 4 large Gatorades -- stuck with water from that point on.

  14. What are you complaining about? You pay your greens fees, that entitles you to make as much noise as you want...

Encountered this once with a twosome I was paired up with. Thankfully they just listened while they drove---they turned it either down or off when someone was hitting. Still don't understand why they thought it was necessary in the first place...

  15. It was the shaft....I first tried the Project X graphite shaft 4.5 & 5.0 on a demo at Golfsmith...I was hitting the JPX800 & JPX800 Pro. I then found a Callaway FT-iz with a X 5.0 shaft on ebay....got it for $42 and absolutely hit the #$%@ out of it.

I went Edwin Watts...they had a almost new set of JPX800's with the Exsar graphite shaft...I tried them, but the feel just wasn't there. I then decided that it was definitely the shaft.

I started looking for used Mizunos with the Project X graphite shaft...found the MP-53's with X 4.5 shafts....I negotiated a trade for my Cally X-24's, then took the MP-53's out for a test drive.....that's when I shot the 81 and made my money back.

    Thanks Foz --

Been testing almost everything in site - so far the Project X Rifle shafts have given me the best results. Think it'll come down to the 53's or 59's, or the Wilson's, or a progressive set. My fitter/instructor is digging the new Nike series, too. Then there's the custom Alpha's..... Oy!

If nothing else, this whole process is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!

I have the FT-iz hybrids -- bought 'em when I was a bout 60 pounds heavier. Swing speed is up now - considering replacing or reshafting.

  16. HI guys -- this has been one fascinating thread - have learned a ton and used the hammer-mallet-frying pan analogy on my wife to explain why I'm dead set on buying a new set of irons. She bought it!!!

HIt the Mizzy 53's, 59's and 69's yesterday -- loved 'em all. 53 was easiest to hit, but when flushed, the 69 was out of this world. Not sure I have the game yet to hit them consistently, but we'll see how the spring goes.

Also hit the Wilson V2's -- sweet but the setup at the store was a little light for me. They didn't have a set of blades on hand - would have loved to have tried them. They did have a new set of FI-5's on display -- a progressive set. They looked to be from 2005 or so. Anyone know anything about the set?

  17. i know the "buttery feel".....just switched from Callaway X-24 Hot's to Mizuno MP-53's.

Man, the feel of a well struck ball last week was heaven!

Scored an 84, for 26 points and won $87 in a 3 way tie for first(40 players)in my saturday game.

I know my handicap is not yet a 0 - 14, like Mizuno suggests, but at a solid 17 through the Florida Winter, (my handicap is usually 20 then drops to 13 or 15 in mid-summer)I anticipate the possibility of 10 - 13 this year.

    Anybody else gaming the MP-53's?

    Hi Foz --

Seriously considering the 53's...working through the process right now. Will also look at the 59's as well as the Wilson's. Gaming a Hogan Apex Plus set right now -- they're old but man do they feel sweet!

What tipped the scale for you for the Mizuno's?
