  1. ... Interesting as I guess we all play our own game. My playing pard won $200 playing in the Arizona Golf Ass Championship with lightening fast greens at 7100yds, and he switched last year from ProV1x to Maxfli Tour X. He says they are virtually identical for his game. I love the Maxfli Tour but will admit the cover is just a little less durable than the Chrome Tour or new TP5x. For me, it is no different scuffing than any ball I have played but the cover does begin to lose its luster after 18 holes compared to the CT and TP5x. If I don't land in a bunker or hit any desert areas those two look almost new after 18 holes. But I start every round with a new ball so the slight loss of gloss with the Maxfli Tours are irrelevant for my game since the performance is very similar to the other two balls. I keep the "played one round balls" in my bag in case I find the water, or hit a cart path and scuff my ball and then I will put one I played for 18 holes in play. No need for a new ball in the middle of my round. Obviously Ymv's. ... I bought 3 doz Chrome Tours and just ordered 4 dozen Tp5x with a Peach instead of a number so I should have a better idea of how they perform on the course in the next few months.
  2. ... Some people aren't seduced by money, especially those already set for life and their kids/grandkids are set for life. The Grand Slam would be a jewel for Rory no doubt but that would make 5 Major wins and 7 would pass Michelson and put him in a tie for 6th all time. LIV is just money from a controversial source and I doubt even a Billion would tempt Rory. McIlroy currently sits second behind Woods in the PGA Tour's career money list with earnings of over $80m. However, this doesn't factor in his three FedEx Cup victories, which total $43m, meaning the number now jumps over the $120m mark. On the other side of the pond, and with the DP World Tour, McIlroy sits top of its money list, with over €50m, although there is some overlap with the PGA Tour due to Majors and WGCs. That figure doesn't include his five Race to Dubai victories either, which would have netted him around $12m. His TaylorMade deal, which he signed in 2017, is said to be worth $10m per year for 10 years. Playing 14 TaylorMade clubs, golf ball and TaylorMade bag, McIlroy also has a Nike contract which was extended in 2017 for 10 years. This is said to be worth $10m per year, having been worth $20m per year from 2013-2016 when he was using Nike clubs, ball and bag. In total, he is estimated to earn around $35m a year from his sponsorships alone. In 2023, Forbes released the highest paid golfers list and, although LIV golfers dominated, McIlroy placed third with $80m - $40m on-course and an equal amount off-course. The same year, the Sunday Times Rich List estimated his net worth at a staggering £200m ($255m) and it's only likely to increase from there.
  3. ... Maybe in NJ and my old home in the Chicago burbs, but here in Phoenix most courses produce more roll in the rough than the fairway. There are several holes on my home course where landing in the rough just off the fairway and catching a downslope, can add up to 30 more yards. That said, you need to be even more accurate with the tee shot to hit that speed slot and a little too far from the edge of the fairway can put you in jail. ... What I find interesting playing golf all over the country, courses always seems to have trade offs. We get much more roll in the desert and with an accurate tee shot it is awesome, but pushing or pulling one a little too much that would just stop in the rough on most courses, here with fast hard fairways the ball just won't stop and rolls into the desert.
  4. ... While technically it is, it isn't really a penalty stroke. If he would have just tapped it in under the 10 second allowed, his score would be the same. That said, the part I don't completely understand is if the ball is moving you get a penalty stroke for hitting a moving ball. In this situation it is kinda dammed if you do and dammed if you don't.
  5. ... Understood. In his prime he was certainly not a likable human being. That said, I have always felt to be the very best in the world at anything takes a lot of sacrifice and single minded determination. But when it gets personal that is a different story.
  6. ... I am a little surprised to read that, unless you are talking about right now because he is a shell of his former self. In his prime there was nobody better at hitting spectacular golf shots or seemingly willing putts into the hole when needed. ... I am not a big PGA TOUR fan mostly due to bomb and gouge with too much emphasis/coverage of putting. But I love watching the Players because the course is the star. Soooooooo much can happen on the last 3 holes and we all know them so well. I thought this was a fun 4 days of veining and I am looking forward to the Masters. ... I try not to have negative thoughts about anyone, let alone a stranger playing golf but hard to keep those thoughts at bay with Clark. He acts like a 2 yr old that just wants his way screaming at his ball to do what he wants it to do, which of course is just silly. But after hitting out of a divot and then angrily taking out a huge chunk of turf makes me want to say he has to stick around Monday and fill/repair every divot on the course. Maybe he would show the course a little more respect. Bumping a tree limb with his backswing then turning and smacking the limb hard is just more immature behavior. Not to be too much of a hippie tree hugger, but a tree is a leaving thing and taking your anger out on a tree because YOU hit a bad shot is just another selfish toddler act.
  7. ... Is that the question? Why is a stranger on TV wearing something you don't like or you wouldn't wear? I try and watch every televised LPGA event and I have seen plenty of women wearing their hood up while playing in the wind or chilly temps. Same thing on the range before an early morning round when it is cold. Hood up on the range and when it gets warmer on the course hood down. That said even if the ladies are just making fashion statement I am perfectly OK with that too.
  8. ... Haha different subject but my Genesis GV60 might as well be a rolling video game. I have camera's that turn on and show my side view when I turn on my lane change signal. I have a BIG red warning signal in my side view mirrors if a car is in my blind spot. I have a back up camera AND graphics with a warning signal if a car or person is near me. I don't even turn my head to look anymore when backing up because my car does all the looking for me. Times be achangin' old man.
  9. ... Professionals on the LPGA Tour have been wearing hoodies and joggers for years.
  10. Soap box warning! ... Seems simple but this really is a complicated issue and covers more than what it seems like on the surface. Golf historically was an elitist sport. It is the main reason I didn't start playing til I was 35. All kinds of stuffy rules like no hat indoors. After wearing a nice baseball hat in the heat and sweating in the hot sun your hair can look so much worse than wearing a nice hat. And what about those Follicley challenged? Pa-lease. I didn't think they needed to change their elitist ways, but as a young hippie in worn out jeans and a tee shirts I just wasn't interested. ... And this is probably a controversial hot take but who ever said we need to grow the game and bring in undesirable elements? Sure I have played with some Judge Smails types over the years and they are only slightly better than Al Czervik types yet what most all of us prefer is something in the middle. Relaxed but respectful. In my opinion the games stuffiness needed to be changed but I think the pendulum may have swung too far in the opposite direction. Golf is a game of honor where we historically called penalties on ourselves. It has a very rigid set of rules. I didn't like some of them but understood and abided by them. It is a very unique sport. I rarely played with anyone just making up their own set of rules to make the game more fun. In fact I am not sure I ever heard "more fun" because golf wasn't/isn't that. Enjoyable for sure but demanding, unyielding, unlucky, extremely difficult while being equally frustrating and rewarding. Today at a typical muni or resort course in Phoenix I see more riding carts than walkers to accommodate not having a few drinks but excessive dinking. And not just music but very LOUD music. "Growing the game" has brought in an element the game didn't want or need. As I said earlier, Bro Golf is fine for Topgolf but has no place on a golf course. ... I know Benz was joking but music is such a controversial topic and probably sums things up more than outdated fashion. If you can play your music so only your group can hear it, and if everyone in your group wants music, and if everyone in your group likes your music, folks should have no problem with it. If someone in your group golfs for the fresh air, sounds of nature and the peace a solitude golf can provide, turn your music off. I constantly hear very LOUD Rap and Country blaring from nearby holes. There is a sense of entiltelment from those types of golfers that is even more egregious than the old Boomer thinking everyone should dress like them. I disagree with Chuck Z often but that's how life works. I see no reason a young college grad that loves the game wearing a nice pair of joggers and a tee short isn't "dressed for success". The problem rises of course when you have a limited interpretation on what that it looks like, or even what success is. Stock broker making 500k with a nice car and very expensive golf clothes or a Fireman, EMT, Armed Forces member or a Teacher driving a Hyundai Elantra and wearing inexpensive casual clothes? I'll take the latter for $500 Alex. ... I post this often but much of life comes down to are you a considerate person or an inconsiderate person? Considerate people know others feel/are different and not only accept it but embrace it. Most importantly they are aware of others and respect them and the course. If they play music it is at a respectful level that doesn't infringe on others enjoyment. They don't park their riding carts on the sides of tee boxes or greens. They have a drink or two but don't think It's Party Time on the golf course and get loud and obnoxious. They are aware people are behind them and do their best to keep up with the group in front of them. They fix their ball marks on the greens and any others they see. They replace their divots or fill them. They certainly don't care what you wear. Inconsiderate people live by "I don't give a f**k what anyone thinks I'm gonna gonna do things my way" and I have seen more and more of them in the last 10years. Seeing where someone entered a sand trap, hit a splash shot and walked out on a different path while stepping over a rake is far from rare. Tossing empty beer cans at trash bin and missing but leaving there or worse just tossing it out into the desert. ... In the end golf is like life. If you do your best to respect the game, the course and those sharing it with you, everyone can agree to disagree about the trimmings. I play in nice golf shorts/pants and polo shirts because I like them. Even though I would never wear them, I am totally cool with joggers/jeans (I have worn jeans when it was cold) and tee shirts with sneakers while am I equally cool with a 24 index sporting a $750 embroidered Callaway staff bag, ALL Callaway clubs, uncomfortable Callaway dress shoes and clothes only playing Chrome Soft balls. As long as they are both respectful of the course and considerate of others around them.
  11. ... I Hera ya. I play a soft draw to straight ball off the tee. Probably around 60/40 for a 3-5yd draw. I don't need a draw bias. I also rarely get along with MAX drivers but the Stealth2 HD (High Draw) sat very square and slightly open when turned down twice. I put a lighter weight in the heel and added two strips of lead tape on the toe and it performed very neutral for me. The Qi10 Max was supposed to have even less draw bias than the S2 HD but I hit far too many big draws to hooks and lost confidence in it fairly quickly. ... To be fair I never liked the look at address which seemed a little closed and that head is just massive looking. Of course I knew I didn't like the look after an indoor fitting but figured the 10k MOI and reported off the charts forgiveness were worth a try. Especially when it was the recommendation of my fitter, although my inability to swing like normal indoors has been mentioned many times. I was surprised when I exchanged it for the standard Qi10 and for my swing, found it more forgiving than the Max. I know we all like to say "Get Fit" and this is one of the reasons why. On paper the standard Qi10 should not have been as good a driver for me as the Max. But not only was it more forgiving, it is giving me quite a bit more distance than my S2 HD on my best drives, and I really wasn't expecting that. It has been quite awhile since any new driver produced my longest tee shots.
  12. ... I am normally not a fan of the wildcat formation as I don't find it any different than a QB handing the ball off in a normal formation. The inly difference is in the wild cat they know it will be a run. That said, when you have an athlete like Taysom Hill that is a bruising runner but can also throw, it can certainly be a nice change of pace and it worked well with Brees in NO. I am not sure Fields can stand up to the punishment between the tackles but I agree with you, it might be worth a shot. He is such a dynamic runner in the open field and if he can get past the first tackle or get some excellent blocking, he can score from anywhere on the field. Fields could also throw from that formation to keep defenses honest because he would most likely only have one target and wouldn't need to actually read a defense, and if not open he would be running. It could be interesting for sure.
  13. ... I still get the Chicago Sun Times everyday and have been reading the sports reporters constantly talking about how the fans love Fields. I have never talked to anyone from Chicago that loved Fields by the middle of his 2nd season when it became apparent he didn't hold the ball and seem confused by defenses because he was a rookie, it was because defenses will always confuse him and he will always hold the ball too long. That was the emphasis in training camp and we were assured in Season 3 we would see Fields getting rid of the ball quickly. Of course he didn't. He simply is not a starting NFL QB. I have wondered if he would entertain moving to WR where his amazing athletic ability and speed could be put to good use. ... The Trubisky/Fields Error I mean Era, is finally over. Traded picks to move up for both and at best they are back ups for other teams. I thought Pace made some pretty good moves but choosing a QB wasn't one of them. 26 starting QB's in 20 seasons and arguably other than Cutler, not a franchise QB among them. I think we all know there is no such thing as a Can't Miss college QB going to the NFL, but I think Williams and Maye are both as close as it gets.
  14. ... Real. IF Fields takes 51% of snaps next season it becomes a 4th round pick. A far cry from the 2nd round pick many in the media were predicting.
  15. ... Speaking for myself, the Qi10 is faster AND more forgiving than the Stealth2 HD I was playing. While faster isn't a surprise, more forgiving certainly is.
  16. ... 6th round isn't "decent" but I would have given him away for one round on a muni. ... And the best the Bears could get was a 6th round pick in 2025. But the NIGHTMARE is over and with the free agent trades shoring up the Oline depth and especially Keenan, the new QB will have some weapons and the 9th pick will be very interesting now that the Bears have Keenan.
  17. ... Haha I think k you were always safe as Getsy would have vetoed that trade. Fields traded for a 6th round pick which is basically giving him away. 7 years of Trubisky and Fields nightmare is finally over. That said, everything I have heard and read about Fields says he is a really good guy, hard worker and excellent leader so I wish him well in Pittsburg.
  18. ... Excellent read and thanks for posting it. I just don't see the Eagles making that move. Until I see a team actually make an offer for Fields, I am assuming it is posturing for leverage. What that leverage is for, I don't know. Or worse just the sports media drumming up some interest and since there is no smoke, there is little chance there is any fire. I know the Philly media can be just as bad as NYC or Chicago. The Chicago media knew long ago the Bears would be drafting a QB but every day there is a Should they keep Fields and IF they keep Fields that just riles up the fan base, seemingly split between keeping him or trading him .
  19. ... While not always possible, I try and lead as close to a chemical free life as possible. Like spraying weeds with salt/vinegar. Takes longer than chemicals and usually have to apply two or three times but it works. Glycol Ethers is a no go for me and honestly I had no problem just wiping my grips with water before the Lamkins, which don't need a wipe down. Not preachin' or suggesting what others should or shouldn't use, so thanks for the suggestion but it just isn't a product for me.
  20. ... Right there with you guys. I have never used a glove and always preferred very tacky grips. I had to wipe them down with a wet towel before every shot and then dry them off. The Lamkin ST +2 Hybrid grip changed that. While they are not tacky as in "sticky" per se, they provide a very solid grip that doesn't slip in my hands. Game changer for me and I have them on all my clubs.
  21. ... Amigo all you need to know is every franchise in the NFL has access to every play Fields has made the last 3 years and none are interested in him. And although the Bears have an abysmal record with finding and/or developing QB's that changes with just one. The new GM, HC and OC are not part of the Bears QB history and if they draft Williams and he plays to his potential that narrative finally changes. To me it's like a losing streak. It has to end at some point. ... There are just too many video's out there like this one, but it is pretty short and indicative of what every scout and GM has seen from Fields.
  22. ... Zero chance the Bears keep Fields. Kennan would be wasted with Fields. DJ Moore was open so often last season and Fields either didn't see him or couldn't force himself to throw the ball in under 4 seconds and the window closed. I wish I could find that stat but something like 17% of Fields sacks were the fault of the Oline and the rest were because Fields held the ball too long. Keenan was acquired for Williams (or Maye ) as was the addition of Everett. The big question now is will someone make a move during the draft or wait til a QB goes down with an Aaron Rodgers freak injury. ... Interesting for Fields fans (I have to assume they only watched his amazing highlights not every agonizing drop back Bears fans suffered through) but at this point no GM is interested in Fields. Even as a back up. If I thought I could use him in a wildcat formation to mix things up every now and then, his running ability is so explosive and he is so fast I would be willing to give up a 3rd or 4th round pick IF that could be part of my offense like T Hill in NO when Brees was the starter.
  23. ... Yup, we grew up in a shirt is always tucked generation. Hard for young folks to understand that because they grew up in the opposite with shirts untucked. Add to that our generations shirts usually had pretty long tails and you looked like a slob in a mini skirt with them untucked. ... Moving to Phoenix cured me of my tucked tradition and once the temps get over 100* I wear my shirts untucked because the last thing I want to do is trap any of my body heat. This facilitated me completely updating my shirt wardrobe to modern polo's that have a short tail and are designed to be worn untucked. I still wear them tucked in winter (at least I wear a white belt not brown with brown shoes ) but for the other 6 months they are untucked.
  24. ... There is really only one constant in life and that is change. Golf always was an elitist game/sport and that changed when Tiger started wining. And like most things in life the changes have been good and bad for the game. You wanna drink many more than a few and blare your music others don't wanna hear from 2 fairways away? Topgolf welcomes you. But not on your local golf course where your music and screaming disrupts others. Really no different than going to a nice casual restaurant, getting hammered and very LOUD, ruining the experience for the rest that are dining and it is just selfish. ... On the other hand spiked shoes with kilts, colored shirts and dress pants have thankfully been replaced by more casual clothing. To be fair I don't wanna see body fat squeezing out and flapping over the edges of a tank top on a man or woman so there are limits. But just clean and decent is the least someone can do for those sharing the course with them, so cargo shorts and a tee shirt with gym shoes shouldn't really annoy anyone. ... Personally I wear nice colored shirts with golf pants or golf shorts. I tuck them in during the winter and leave them untucked during the summer when temps get well above 100*. I don't wear them because they are traditional, I just like the look. I join a semi private upscale course during the summer because it is the only tree lined course near me here in the desert. If I get paired up with some guys wearing tee shirts, cut of jeans and some sandals ... as long as they are pleasant company, respect the course repairing any damage they do and keep pace, I am quite happy to play with them.
  25. ... Depending on pin and conditions, that is a normal 8 iron for me. When between clubs or having any doubt I take more club unless there is trouble long. I have found more often than not, and like most Am's if I always take a perfect distance club, I can come up short far too often. It is rare for me to take plenty of club and go over the green, just past the pin and that's the way it should be. When you are not pin high you should be a little short 50% of the time and a little long 50% of the time. ... I know some will say all the trouble at their course is long and we have two holes just like that where long runs off the green and into a tough spot or through a fence/into the woodsy desert area, but I am talking a normal shot to a normal green and a mid pin placement. I play with far too many that hit one shot pin high and all the rest are short. In fact this was the final piece of the puzzle to get me to a + index. Just taking more club whenever there is any doubt. My thought process changed from "7 iron should get me to the pin or just a little short" to "7 iron should get me to the pin or a little long".
