  1. I didn't say that it was the ONLY thing I took for pain!
  2. Tough playing with pain, I know! If I'm playing 18, I take hydrocodone about 15 minutes before I tee off, and sometimes another one coming off the 8th green so it kicks in for the back nine. I find it's a lot better to take it WHILE playing, than after to ease the pain!
  3. Good job! Playing in wet conditions is no fun. Even though I am in the desert, I play in wet conditions sometimes when I travel. It's a different game. Don't fuss about the pitching, just need practice in those conditions. "I'd keep playing. I don't think the heavy stuff is going to come down for awhile yet."
  4. That's when I always reboot.
  5. Great to hear! Coming off a long layoff, don't have an expectations... Just enjoy being out there. It will come around as you become more comfortable with your swing. Awesome on the short game! For me that's the part of my game that takes the longest to get in shape when I haven't played for awhile.
  6. Had a great time in N. Idaho this last week. Played the Priest Lake GC and even had a couple if birdies, which is unusual for me on a course that I have never seen before. However, an 11 on a par 5 more than made up for them! THREE LOST BALLS on one hole!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Hope it doesn't last too long. My allergies start to kick in next month when the temps get over 100. Not looking forward to it. Went out to play after the great tournament today. My wife and I hooked up with another couple that we know but haven't played with them before. They are relatively new to the game but really like to play. I don't play very well under those circumstances and I didnt disappoint myself! Couldn't hit the driver very well at all, but I did impress them with a nice lob shot with my 50 over some very tall trees onto the green from 40 out. I have tried this shot many times with my 54 and while I can hit it high enough, I can't carry it far enough to cover the trees. The 50 worked great this time. Only birdie I had today.
  8. Like Like Like Getting analytical is so easy to do. I spend time on the range working on certain shots. When I go to play, I am STILL thinking about the shots on the range. Gotta let go.
  9. My wife and I played a links style course today with another couple. Beautiful, sunny 77 with slight breeze. I was the only one that played well. I typically shoot mid-to-high 80's on this course. It eats my lunch! I had one bad hole; took a double on the par 4 ninth hole because I had two chunks in the fairway. The green is elevated with water on the left and behind, and a big deep bunker that falls off the right side of the green. I just let it get to me. I am ashamed! I only hit 10 of 14 fairways and 9 of 18 greens, and not one birdie, but managed to shoot 80. Chipping and putting saved me. Easily my best round of the year so far, but I am still kicking myself over that double!
  10. If the weather here is any indication of what you will be getting soon, then you are in for some great playing time this next week! We had some wind Fri-Sat that was what you probably got this weekend too. Yesterday was a little breezy, but not bad. I had 2 birds; one a one hop pitch-in with my 58 SCOR, and a 30 foot putt. The forecast is sunny for the next 7 days and highs pushing 80 degrees!! Hope it gets there soon... I'm enjoying it!!!
  11. Welcome back! Glad you made it through OK. Looking forward to the updates. Hopefully, you can get off the pain meds quickly; my wife was on them too long after her surgery and it's been tough getting off them.
  12. Good job! This sounds like one of my rounds on my practice course. Certain times of the day, there is no one on the course and I head out to practice certain types of shots at locations where my ball usually ends up. I did that yesterday. It rained hard for about an hour, but I could see that it was clearing up so out I went. Absolutely no one at the course. I've been practicing FW and hybrid shots so I will hit a couple of shots when I got to those locations; one FW and one hybrid. My conclusion is that there is not much difference between a 5W and a 3H except the 5W flies higher. I've got a couple more clubs to try next time.
  13. Good news! Glad it's working out for you. Keep us posted.
  14. I hadn't heard of the implant either. My wife had Spondylolisthesis as a kid and didn't have surgery until age 52. She was waiting for the doctors to get better techniques. Doctors call it a practice, and we are called patients because we have to be patient while they practice. But that meant she was living with pain for a LOT of years. When I met her in 2002, she was probably a 30 HCP, because she hadn't played for many years. (She started at age 8, and played H.S. golf). In 2008 we went to Seattle where she had the L5-S1 fusion. She was back playing golf again in 4 months. Last year before knee replacement, her HCP was 17. She finally got off most pain meds (fentanyl, morphine, and hydrocodone), only taking an occasional 7.5 hydrocodone. Is she completely free of pain? No, but it's manageable now. I can't imagine that she would have gone for the electrodes, but if it works... Keep us informed on your decision. Hope it goes well.
  15. My wife and I played our practice course after work today. I love it now that DST is here and it was 73 today and sunny. Perfect... Except that it seemed that I was constantly needing a 9-iron. Of course, those of you that read my thread 70Yard SCOR know that yesterday the head came off my SCOR 42 which is my 9. Well, it gave me a chance to play some different shots with different clubs. That's worth trying sometime. Pretend you're Seve! BTW, the 42 is fixed!!
  16. +1 on Caledonia. Played 10 courses in Myrtle Beach in 6 days and by far Caledonia was my favorite.
  17. I've been playing them for about a week now. Temps getting into the 60-70 range. When I first put it into play, the distance was good, but I didn't notice much spin on the green. Then, the courses started plugging the greens and turned the water on, and they are working just like I remember the PV1's. I was beginning to wonder if I bought 2 dozen balls that I don't like playing. I think they will be just fine.
  18. Wow! Wish we had a practice facility where we could hit ball all day. I have to use my 9-hole practice course for that and dodge the newbies (I was going to say "old guys", but that describes me too). The practice facilities at this course are crap, so I go out on the course and pick my own practice areas. I can only do this at times when the course is relatively empty.
  19. Glad you could finally get out to play. I lived in DC for a year a long time ago. The winter was mild, but the summer was HOT! Too humid for me; had to go back to the desert. Good luck this year in your tournaments!
  20. There is a muni in town where I started playing golf about 23 years ago. Needless to say, I was a terrible player for quite awhile. In the gangsome I was always the last pick (... "and you can have Kenny" is usually how it went). After playing a wicked slice for too long, I decided to take a lesson; novel, I know, but I was desperate. The pro was a little strange, but in just a few lessons, I improved to about a bogey golfer. So, why am I writing this here? Well, I haven't played that course in a long, long time (long story), and I get a call yesterday from that pro asking if I wanted to join him and another guy I knew from way back when for a round today. I thought, well nothing going on at work that needs immediate attention; it's overcast and 70 degrees; why not! The course is a par 70 and the best round I have ever had on it was 82 about 10 years ago. Today I shot 77 and missed a par putt on 18 to tie the pro. So I'm stoked!! It's been years since I have played with this pro, but after the round today, I feel that I now have a chance to finally beat him!
  21. Quote from the "Hardest Courses" thread, I played Wine Valley GC yesterday. This course is a U.S. Open local qualifier on May 12. They need to do some work on getting it in shape, particularly the bunkers. I say that because I had 6 shots out of them! They need more sand now. Beautiful day! 77 degrees, sunny. It was a tale of two nines. They started us on #10 and maybe that was what screwed me up; I had a lot of mis-hits. It could have been that this was my first round of the year playing in just a golf shirt. I have been playing in 3 layers. I don't normally hit bunkers, but it seemed that the ball just wanted to go that way, and anything close to a bunker went in (see the pics of the course from the Hardest Courses thread). The fairways are firm and fast and play like the Open Championship. I shot 47 on the first nine. Then the wind came up and I shot 39 on the second nine. So, maybe this year's game is coming around?
  22. I'm not sure which one I'm more jealous of; getting to play at Wynn or driving the Hellcat. I think... Yes, it's the Hellcat. Awesome!
  23. Hey! I get another shot at Wine Valley GC on Monday, all expenses paid, courtesy of my brother-in-law. However, there is no cart girl on Mondays. Weather is supposed to be 70 and sunshine!!!
  24. That fairway looks perfect... said the short straight hitter.
