  1. Wow! That's a lot of broken clubs. I have only broken one club in 24 years and that was my lob wedge. After a week of playing in Myrtle Beach in the rain every day, my clubs never dried out over night. I played at home some months later and the lob wedge snapped at the bottom of the grip where it meets the steel. It rusted through! That never happens here in the desert.
  2. You've got to stop using those female balls... They don't listen.
  3. Could I be in his shoes on a date?
  4. I use the 10 finger grip since that is the way I learned not all that long ago. Interlocking and overlapping grips were uncomfortable, and I couldn't hit the ball hardly at all. It works OK as long as your hands are very close together on the club. If they aren't then you will lose some power. Check your grip by taking your club back to the top with your hands separated like in a baseball grip. While the club is at the top and a loose grip, slide your trail hand closer to the lead hand. As they start to overlap, you should see more shaft lean creating a greater leverage angle; thus more speed. I can probably attribute some of my power loss over the years to old age and lack of flexibility in the wrists, but I have tried to switch several times with bad results. I just live with it, and make sure that my hands are as close to each other as possible.
  5. Chances are that your round could be better than theirs too. If you think you are not going to win anything, then you probably won't. Be positive!! Just go out and have fun.
  6. I haven't played in almost 3 weeks. Still looking after my mom and dad; cooking, cleaning, driving to Dr. and therapy appointments. We have been looking at assisted living places and I think they are finally ready to move. We just have to wait until there is an opening. Since we didn't have any appointments today, I decided to sneak out and play 18 at a local course. I have played it a few times in the past, but didn't really expect to play well. I just needed to get outside and get some exercise. So, I walked. Nothing spectacular, but I did shoot 40/41 = 81. The driver was working great. I only missed two fairways, and those weren't by much. The rough was pretty short so it wasn't a factor. I did have some tree trouble even from some fairways for second shots (this is a tree-lined course with big old trees; see pics below). My second shots sucked. I only hit 5 greens in regulation, but I only had 30 putts (still looking at the hole on anything inside 8 feet.); Seven 1-putts including two 10 footers and two 6 footers. It took me a while to get used to the greens because I didn't have time to spend my usual time on the practice green. I had a grounds crewman on a leaf blower in my line of sight on 3 straight holes. I could have killed him. I don't like people in my range, even if they are off the fairway. My memorable hole was the last one (#9 as we started off #10 tee). Par 5 hit a nice tee shot, but pull-drawed my second behind some trees; no shot to the green. I hit a low 25 yard hook around the trees with my 42 SCOR on the green to 10 feet; made the bird to end my round. I'm happy. I am heading home on Sunday or Monday to check out of my office and sign forms so I can retire next month. Hope to play some golf with my wife for a few days before heading back down to my parent's house (300 miles). At least I haven't forgotten how to play! Hole #1 Salem Golf Club Straight Par 5 Hole #10 Salem Golf Club Dogleg Right Par 4
  7. Real easy! 10 years at #1. That means I get to live for 10 more years! I may not be playing in 10 years anyway. OK, so now the time scale slides and you will say "How about for 1 year?" Then my answer is I will stay where I'm at, thank you very much.
  8. I don't think a round of golf played right after quitting your job is a fair test of your game on a course. Stress, anxiety, just stray thoughts running through your head. After a few days your focus will be a lot better... and you now know the course better! I am expecting a much better round the next time. And good luck with finding your next job, or not!
  9. I saw that driver in the pics Barb posted at the show. It looked kinda neat, but had never heard of it and nothing since then. I had wondered what had become of it. Now I know... you bought it!
  10. Good planning on your part! I married someone who doesn't like to cook much, so we tend to eat out a lot. But she is 9 years younger than I am, so maybe she can drive me to the course when I can't!
  11. I have found that a good massage therapist will help. Unfortunately, the good one I had got married and moved to Seattle. I have been to a couple of others, but they weren't the same. Massages help, but I'm still looking for the good one.
  12. Nice job! I can see that HCP coming down already.
  13. I don't put to much stocks in score posted when CPO. It's not conditions that we are used to playing in (well, maybe you are now ), so we don't hit our best shots off the grass. Don't worry about it! For me I actually walk more in those conditions than when I just walk the course. My wife and I played in Phoenix last fall after a rainstorm at the Camelback Resort; CPO and you had to have a cart. It wasn't that bad, so after a few holes, I let her drive the cart and I walked most of it with my bag. I think that was my only round this year over 90. But at least we played faster than if I rode in the cart too.
  14. Well, low loft drivers are more difficult to consistently control. I'd consider going up in loft and finding the right shaft to bring the ball flight back down. Seems like a better combo for consistency. But then again, your swing coach should be able to tweak it.
  15. Seems like the 5th hole is not your friend. I call mental!
  16. Take it easy Rev, and watch some golf. The course will still be there in a few days. Hope you get out today. I hate hospitals; been there several times for Mom and Dad since May.
  17. Did you use one of your putters or one of theirs? If it was one of theirs, did you buy it?
  18. Hey! Congratulations! i knew you were going to do it. now that you've done it, it's no big deal anymore. So the pressure is off and you will be breaking 80 more and more. Nice #toursauce!
  19. Sure it is. Lot's of great people here with club buying expertise! Oh, I get it... you're being facetious. "Buy, Buy, Buy! ..... They're all buying! Then Sell, Sell, Sell"
  20. Every time I see that Jmike has posted in this thread, I have to see what putter he bought today. I am so disappointed, but congratulations on winning the bag!
  21. OK, my first putter purchase in 5 years. I have been looking for a heavy head mallet, so I bought a new Cleveland Classic 6 belly putter. It has a 400g head, but it's 41in long. I am going to cut it down to 32in and counterweight it with 200g. My first putter experiment!
  22. Once the floods gates are open, watch out!
  23. I'll take our dry heat thank you very much. Humidity and I don't get along very well. I can drink lots of fluids and be OK. But the summer I spent on the east coast was horrible; it just drains your energy and I always felt like I had to constantly take a shower. I do feel sorry for you!
