  1. Finished the posting season yesterday, so it looks like I am 9.4 until I post rounds from Florida in February.
  2. Not too sure what it's like flying these days; I haven't done much of it for a few years, but when I was Platinum on Delta, five flights was a lot of free drinks!!
  3. I played today after a 6 day layoff. It was probably my best ball striking round this year, but the score didn't reflect it. Only one good putt. It was a nice sunny day about 50* and I was playing as a single; I just managed to jump out in front of a large group of guys. It was fine for two holes, but on #3 I caught a foursome. They let me play through two holes later, but I caught another foursome on #7. Since I had to stop at the turn, I didn't get to play through them until #11. I shot 78 which included bogeys on the holes where I played through the foursomes. I hate playing through because I always feel like I need to rush. I did manage +1 on the back nine. I think I am still sorta in the zone, so I am hoping these rounds continue.
  4. Sounds like we pretty much do the same thing PJ. As for the Bandon caddies, I remember that it was the same price if a caddie double-bagged or if we each had our own. Since it was the same, I decided that I wanted to experience a round with my own caddy, so my wife and I each got one. Mine was pretty good, but my wife loved hers and wanted to take him home! I said no.
  5. PJ, I was being generic on the caddie fee across all courses. I think I paid $100 to my caddie including tip at Bandon, and that was back in 2010. Now for me, I have to double that because my wife had her caddy too at $100. Ouch indeed!!
  6. If you need a cart to play Bandon Dunes courses, you must bring a Doctor's note with you.
  7. Did we formally hijack this thread? Sorry about that. My coach wants we to have my right shoulder a lot lower than I have it at address and impact. My tendency is to straighten up at impact, and I think it was due to the years of pain in the left knee keeping me from getting to my right side. I'm working on it now that it doesn't hurt but it's now an old habit. But, back to the 10 (well 8 finger) finger grip, I really only grip the club with the last 3 fingers of each hand. The index finger of the left hand is only on the club for the ride, and the right index finger (I call it the trigger finger) is separated from the fingers. I try to keep both hands as close together as possible, almost like the overlap. More separation of the hands reduces the leverage angle that can be achieved, and thus speed.
  8. Foz, because that is the trend for the new courses these days. Streamsong is not walk only; they have carts available at certain times of the day but you have to have a forecaddie. Bandon Dunes and Chambers Bay are the same but no carts except for handicapped players. It's their way to ensure that you experience the way golf was meant to be played, by walking. Oh and they want you to have caddies that cost you $50/bag +tip.
  9. Rev, I thought that a strong right hand grip would lead to more hooking. I strengthened my grip a few weeks ago and was hitting the driver pretty well for awhile, but this last weekend in the wind, it was quack, quack; back to a more neutral right hand grip.
  10. Even though our posting season ends November 15 until the end of February, I can still post scores if I play at a location that is still open for posting. So, I guess I will be posting scores in Florida next February.
  11. Well I just couldn't stand it. That 89 yesterday was sitting in my gut, and I had to have another chance at the course. The wind subsided overnight, the sun was out and the course was relatively empty. I just had to go. I parred the hole I got a quad on yesterday, and only got a bogey on the one I tripled yesterday. All is good now. Shot 81 and could have been better but I kept pulling putts. #18 par 5 was an interesting hole again... yesterday, tap-in birdie. Today I was right off the tee. So I had a long shot up the narrow part of the fairway again, but I pulled it and hit the roof of the shed behind this tree; bounced into the rough short of the fairway. My third shot out of the rough was again over the sand and water. Cleared the sand, but landed just short of the green and bounced back into the sand. I think you can see the flock of geese in the shadow to the right of the bunker. Well, they were in the bunker too and left "traces." Long bunker shot left about an 8 foot putt which I drained for par. I'm a lot happier today, thank you very much!
  12. OK, I went into my profile to change my HCP. I put in 10.0 and got an error that the number exceeds the maximum allowable. I guess I can't be a double digit handicap!
  13. Here under the WSGA, we post scores from March 1 until November 15. I usually bounce between 9.0 and 10.0. Even though I had a 71 last weekend, yesterday my index went from 9.5 to 10.0 because I had several scores in the mid 80's. I've got 12 days to shoot a few low scores to get back to 9.
  14. Last weekend I had my round of the year at 71. Yesterday on a more difficult course I shot 89 with a triple bogey and a quad. However, the wind was blowing 15-20 with gusts to 25; throw in a shower of two and playing was a little miserable. The quad... oh the quad! Long par 4 into the wind; I knew I wasn't going to get to the green in two, but I did the bad thing anyway and tried to hit it a little harder. Hooked it into a bunker... in the previous fairway!! Thought I could get out with my 7W. I was wrong; caught the lip. Just poor contact, I can do this if I just hit it better. Wrong again, but I got out of the bunker... into the next bunker! Did I say there was two bunkers in a row? Decided to hit 8i out this time and made it back to my fairway. Approach shot went long behind the pin. Putting downhill, downwind... three times! This was one of the few times on a course that my wife has laughed at my play; I guess I deserved it.. I did manage to finish well. #18 is a par 5 dogleg left with the wind coming into and from the right. I hit another bad hook and didn't make the dogleg. I was short of the fairway bunker but had trees and an outbuilding in the dogleg directly in line with the green. A straight shot could run through the fairway and into a long bunker that runs all the way to the green; water on the other side of the bunker. I used my Macgregor VIP 5i "rock club" because I can hook that club if I need to and ran the shot around the corner and down the fairway. I landed in the middle of the fairway which is only 20 feet wide at that point. My third shot was an 8i, all carry over water and sand to a tucked pin; routine tap-in birdie!
  15. Isn't it nice when you can play in a nice rhythm; not waiting on anyone and not having pressure from behind?
  16. 70* sunshine but no golf today. Wind is 38 mph with gusts to 55. That's about 15 mph over my limit for golf. Similar tomorrow but rainy.
  17. I have never played anything other than the 10 finger or FFG, coming from playing softball. Over the last few years I have toyed with changing to interlocking or overlapping but the results were disastrous. I am currently a 9.5 HCP but with either of those grips I would be a 30!! Too late in my life to change.
  18. Good luck Foz! Play it like a fun round and enjoy yourself.
  19. I used to have my index finger down the back of the putter grip, and I think that led to inconsistent speed on my putts. A few years ago I switched to running my index finger down the front of the grip and my trail hand grips the putter grip and index finger. It helps to keep me from flipping, keeps the back of my lead hand facing the target line, and promotes my SBST pendulum swing. But that's just me. Sorry we didn't hook up this year and will miss everyone at the PGA Show. Let's see what next year brings.
  20. "You can doo it" Good luck Foz!
  21. My wife took yesterday afternoon off, and after I posted my review of the Nike Method Converge putter, we went to a local course that we have only played a couple of times in the last year. I played from the Blues and of course she played from the forward tees. I shot 81 with 3 doubles so it could have been much better. My problem was the greens were pretty quick and judging the roll of chips around the green was a challenge. I putted OK; making one 30 footer for par!! It's getting tougher to beat her. She shot 86 which tied her best score of the year, but this round was on a par 72 course and the other one was a par 66. One of these days she will be beating me consistently. One of the hazards of being 8 years older!
  22. Well... not for me. Today I picked up Srixon Tour Yellow Z-Stars for my wife for $33/dozen from our local golf store. That seems to be the only yellow ball she will play, and she has tried them all. They had whites but no yellows, so she ordered them... A MONTH AGO! All they got was 6 dozen, so I bought 3 dozen. That should last her about 2 years. What's with Cleveland/Srixon? Is this happening everywhere? I probably should have ordered them online somewhere, but I wanted to help the local business since it is the only golf store in our community of 300K people!
  23. Hit your approach shot closer.
  24. I played yesterday at a local course that I haven't played this year. It was a beautiful day; sunshine 78 with a light breeze. However, I had a bad front 9 with 4 doubles; should have been drinks! I started the back 9 with another double. Then the wind came up; 25-35 with gusts to 50, but still managed to shoot a 42 for an 86.
