  1. That's truly sad to hear. My HS golf years were right when the game was changing from persimmon to metal. I went from a MacGregor Toney Penna driver I rescued from a used bin to the original dimple-headed TaylorMade Tour Burner with the gold graphite shaft. I still have the TP. I'll never let that go.
  2. Don't know about entire companies... but for individual iron sets: Spalding - Tour Edition "Bird on Ball" blades Ben Hogan - Apex Redline MacGregor - MT Colokrom Cleveland - TA1 blades Tommy Armour - Diamond Scot Ram - Tom Watson Scoring System wedges I was going to say Toney Penna, but it looks like someone has bought the name and is selling stuff under that name.
  3. The hip kids in my office brewed a beer with the microbrewery next door, which was just released the other day. It turned out damn good. Open source software, open source beer - http://www.malt.io/users/mbolling/recipes/open-container
  4. I'm really glad to hear that they've given the Shark some much needed TLC. So many fond memories of that course...
  5. I caddied all through high school and college. Quite a bit. The old avatar was supposed to be a cartoon representation of a golf ball, but people have told me it looks like a pizza. And that works, because I'm half Italian. The current avatar is part of the cover of one of my favorite albums. I am crazy insane about music, maybe as much as I am about golf.
  6. Do any of you out there have the Tee Time Golf Pass? Do you feel as though it's worth it? I'm in an interesting (fortunate) situation. I'm a First Tee volunteer, and they let volunteers play the course (a 4600 yard executive course) for free. So I play there quite a bit. My daughters are both First Tee participants, and they play for free as well. Tough to argue with. But sometimes we want to play somewhere else. Is the Tee Time pass worth it? Or can we just do better looking for deals on GolfNow (which I've done in the past).
  7. jlukes - Do you know if they've done anything with the Shark? It definitely needed some love back in the late 80s.
  8. Hmmm, not sure what the criteria is, but here goes... I grew up in Monmouth County, NJ back in the 80s. The parks system courses there are really strong. Hominy Hill got most of the recognition back then, hosting a USGA Publinx and landing on GD's top 100 public courses. Howell Park is also a good course. Shark River (my HS home course) was adequate. Charleston Springs was not open back when I lived there. I headed south to Williamsburg, VA for college. As poor college students, we'd drive down to Deer Run in Newport News, VA. The Cardinal course there is fun, and the Deer Run course is stout. Both were bargains then and still are. After college, I moved to Norfolk, VA. Sleepy Hole in Suffolk and Stumpy Lake in Virginia Beach were two of my favorites in the area. I now live in the Richmond area. The real hidden gem around here is a private club, Jefferson-Lakeside Country Club. It's a classic Donald Ross course, and it while it's pretty short, it's not for the faint of heart. If you can find a way to get on, play it.
  9. Another walker here. Most times I'm pushing my ClicGear 3.5. I bought a Sun Mountain 2.5 last year so I could carry for a quick nine. I only ride when I'm forced. But I played at the Shenvalee (in the Shenandoah mountains) for the first time last Spring, and I was glad they made us ride. I could not imagine pushing my cart there. Maybe I could walk it with a caddy.
  10. Agree with Rocco. If Tiger wants to compete again, it has to be with a swing that doesn't stress his back. Is he willing to make the change? Even if it means no longer being a power player?
