  1. Yes, quite serendipitously. So much so I’m a bit concerned of this being a spammer since wouldn’t someone use a plural and ask if “these” are still available when talking about a set of clubs and not “this”? [emoji848] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Nice round in adverse conditions. Vintage irons in soggy fairways can be frightening! I took the new to me Hogan Grinds to the range the other day and I had the same problem hit them fat. I need to adjust the lie more upright for me but I couldn’t believe how every swing felt fat. Now that’s me as much as the clubs but it was surprising as I play plenty of irons with no bounce or even negative bounce and have not had that poor of a range session in a long time. Took the the 4 and 8 irons of the Medallions to the range this morning and it was a night and day difference to the Grinds. I prefer the looks of the Medallions too so those might be the set of vintage Hogan’s for my bag. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Ok guys. Got my first classic bag round in today. I’ve decided I will play a different set from a different era for each round starting with my oldest set working up to my circa 1994 set. Today’s round was with my circa 1949-51 Powerbilt set. The irons are 2-9 Powerbilt 8990 DTC’s from 1949. The woods 1,3,4 are Powerbilt 500’s from 1951 or 52. The sand wedge is a Powerbilt Sand Blaster wedge and the putter is a Otey Chrisman made hickory shafted Powerbilt probably from around 1960. The woods and irons all have the original cork and rubber vulcanized grips. Ball was the Wilson Zip. I’ve played this driver quite a bit before so I am pretty used to it. I was happy with my accuracy today but for some reason I was hitting the ball very low off the tee. I only missed one fairway today on number 4 but I was only getting about 220 yards of carry, with my longest drive only being about 245. My short iron play was very good, nothing like sticking a 130 yard approach with a 70 year old 8-iron. Putting was great too, I’ll admit I’ve been practicing and playing with with this hickory shaft Powerbilt quite a bit, even sticking it my modern bag. It is pretty damn accurate and it feels fantastic with the hickory shaft. Where I really struggled was long irons. My worst hole was 170 yard #5 par 3 where I put it way right. Chipped out from under the trees but ended up short of the green. A two putt stopped the bleeding with a double bogey. Wasn’t much better hitting fairway woods today either. Everything low and right. I admit I haven’t played my classics much lately and it showed. A par on #6, that 245 yard drive I spoke of, and a Par on #7 were my only two of the day. I followed them up with just an awful tee shot that missed well right. A bogey on 8 and 9 left me with a 44. If I do the math right the classic bag challenge scoring would be 37.32301 [emoji848] Anyway, a fun round with a set I rarely play, but a good time. I expect the scores to come down as I move forward in the equipment timeline with my next round. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. Got the Grinds yesterday and they are beautiful. The Medallions look incredible as well but are 1/2” short so I need to throw some extensions in them before I play them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. They are almost NOS, super clean. I’m just letting letting go of a few things as I have two new Hogan iron sets incoming as well as another iron set a collector friend found that I’ve been looking for for awhile. Gotta let some stuff go. Don’t have room for it all. [emoji16] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Anyone still on the fence about participating in the classic bag challenge I’ve posted an incredible set of classic Titleist’s in the for sale section. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. OK Spies. I have a full set available that would be perfect for someone to pick up for the classic bag challenge. Here is the story on these. Full set of early 1960’s vintage Golfcraft irons and persimmon woods in beautiful condition. Golfcraft made some of the finest forged irons available and just a few years after these clubs were made, were bought by the Acushnet Co. and rebranded as Titleist clubs. The Staff irons are 2-9 irons in all original condition and look like they weren’t played very much. True Temper Pro Fit regular flex shafts. Everything is original; grips, shaft bands, ferrules with matching serial numbers....these irons are a time capsule set. The woods are 1-4 and look to have been refinished long ago and don’t look like they were hit since. Pro Fit regular flex shafts same as the irons. Old Victory grips will need replacing. This is an incredible full set of irons and woods that were top of the line in the 1960’s. I’m trying to focus my collection so I thought I’d pass these on to someone that wants an incredible full set of classics. Steal them for $195 plus actual shipping. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. The Grinds and the Medallions are en route from the same collector. And yes, both with Apex 4 shafts. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. Decisions, decisions. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. I’ve been meaning to get one of those for my classic bag too. I’ve been putting so well with a face balanced mallet in my modern bag I’d like to put one in the classic bag too. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. [mention]sirchunksalot [/mention] I’m just always excited to see someone take interest in the classic clubs and hope to help them learn more about the classic game. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Sounds like you guys are are getting the classic club itch. [emoji12]. I’ll definitely participate, it’s just another normal day of golf for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Sure thing. The catalog is from a compilation book of Macgregor catalogs released 20 years ago. Search Jim Kaplan Macgregor on eBay or Amazon and you’ll probably find a copy. 1st edition was printed around 1980, 2nd edition around 2000. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. I haven’t been able to play or even go to the range in awhile. We had terrible air quality for two weeks where you couldn’t even go outside due to wildfire smoke, then this week I’ve been working on building my new workshop. Since I wasn’t up to swinging the Hogan Combo set with the X100’s in them I decided to take my 1964 Powerbilt 5990c irons and 1968 Powerbilt 807 woods to the range. They have an easy swinging shaft called “Super Action” shafts that somehow play perfectly for me. I had a nice little range session with these 60’s classics without having to swing too hard after wielding a hammer framing the workshop for 3 days straight. I’m not a carpenter so I was exhausted at the end of each day. [emoji16] It was a nice Sunday afternoon with the Sunday classic fun set. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. Nice find. From 1979/80. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. Man, it’s great to hear how well you guys are hitting the Hogan’s. I was really enjoying them as well, but it’s now been two weeks since I’ve swung a club. The air here has been so bad from wildfire smoke you can’t stand to be outside for more than a few minutes. With COVID at least I could get the kids out for a walk or a hike, or even get them on the course. Now we are really trapped in our house. I’ll be glad when this year is over. 17. The Arias are quality irons. The zero offset is cool but I didn’t care for the size of the heads, just too big for me, and the sole grind was not what I like. I tested the Hogan combo and they are a much better club than the Arias, at least for me. The Hogan’s size and shape, at least in the Icon, is absolutely perfect. The PTx Pro’s are a little clunky but still pretty compact. Yes the Hogan’s have a little offset but offset is just one factor in achieving the overall design and performance of the club and for me the Hogan’s are a more complete design. 18. Got out to the range today as it has cleared up a bit. The Icons are such a delight to hit. The PTx Pro’s are great too but the Icon is on another level. I’d love to have the Icon 6-PW, and the 4-5 be the PTx Pro. I hope to get out for a round Saturday. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. I’ve been unable to get out to even the range in nearly a week. Between 112* temps Fri-Sunday and ash raining from the sky, getting on the course has been impossible. Woke to this sky yesterday. This pic was taken from my backyard at 9:00...........am!
  20. I remember when those came out in the early 2000’s. I really wanted one as I was playing the Hogan Apex irons and Hogan wedges at the time. Never got one though. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. Great round Sluggo and great news about the PTx Pro 4-iron. I am going to have to give them a call about getting on myself. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. I believe they don’t really offer single clubs, it is all sets, to keep costs down. So I could see them not offering a 7-Iron Icon because that would be part of an Icon set. But the 4-iron is a different story. There should be single PTx Pro 4-irons available as many that have bought the Combo Sets did so without the matching 4-iron but the UIHI or VKTR hybrid in its place. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. Yeah, the Dynamic Golds are working out great. I added some Pro Soft inserts down the shafts to dampen vibrations as I am still feeling that elbow pain a bit. Two decisions I was torn over when we submitted our specs for the clubs was the shaft and the choice of 4-iron. You may recall I messaged the group of testers and asked what everyone was ordering for their 4-iron which for most turned out to be the UIHI. I thought I’d order the regular PTx Pro 4-iron just so we’d have some variety in the review but I gave into the promise of an easier to hit 4-iron replacement. But again, I don’t think the PTx Pro’s even need a 4-iron replacement, they are so easy to launch long and high already. And yes, I thought of emailing Hogan about buying a a PTx 4-iron too, but didn’t want to hassle them anymore after the reshaft. I’d gladly pay for it though if they sold a single 4-iron. 24. Sorry for the delay fellas. You might have heard we've had a bit of fires nearby. My review is now live.
  25. This is a great version of “Dancing with the Moonlit Knight”. Unfortunately the concert I was at didn’t have the orchestra but the band still sounded fantastic. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
