Drying out after another frog strangler. Our course was closed as they couldn't find the row boats for the fairways. We'll maybe be off the cart paths by Sunday, but I'm not holding my breath, I'm still trying to dial in my new-to-me Mizuno 921 forged irons. much different than the previous set. Have a great 2023 filled with birdies of better! Bob Trimble

It looks like you have covered all the basic steps and a few more to boot! Having built and rebuilt clubs for many years I will weigh the components and label them all. Assuming all of the raw shafts are within a gram or two of each other, you should be able to use one for any head. If there is a great difference in grip weight I match the heaviest ones with the head most out of the progression from say 4 iron to A wedge. I don't know the actual weights, but the difference between should be a gram or less between 4-5, 5-6, etc. Spine finding is a not a bad idea. Since these are for yourself, it is worth the time and effort, if just for the feeling that you did all you could on your build. As far as the Epoxying goes, make sure you have all your ducks in line before you start. I always have the alcohol and toweling ready to clean the head-ferrule joint and wipe down the shaft just in case you touched it with any epoxy. I typically use the 25 hour cure epoxy so I make up enough for the whole set and have some to spare. I didn't notice if you have shafting beads on your bench, but they are very helpful in getting shafts centered in the head. Align your heads with the mark on the shaft, give it a final wipe down, and set it carefully down and walk away. Good luck in your efforts and let us know how they perform.

I'm using Cobra woods as they have the adjustability that I need. I've paired them with the UST/MAMAYA Helium shafts which are a really solid combination. I'm getting the 3/4 wood up well, and have similar results with the 5. Just another good option.

Removing Excess Epoxy
daddybob0525000 replied to cmtecca's topic in Club Making/Repair & DIY Projects
First of all, remember to wipe the joint with paper toweling as soon as the shaft is installed on the head. I use alcohol on the towel to get it all. With that over hostel shaft, I would let it cure head up to avoid the dripping you see. With dried epoxy, I will gently heat it with a heat gun to soften it before CAREFULLY scraping up the shaft. I would run a sharp blade around the joint to separate the epoxy portions as well. Sent from my SM-G930VL using MyGolfSpy mobile app- 4 replies

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? Howdy from Canton, Georgia. I've been golfing for about 50 years with occasional success. I currently have a GHIN index of 19.9 and dropping. I have been a certified club builder and repair for at least 40 years and still work on clubs both for myself and others who need reshafting, regripping or tuning up their clubs. What do you love about golf? The unpredictability of the game. For me, it is often Jekyll and Hyde from Front 9 to Back 9, or even hole to hole. I often say the course or my game is predictably unpredictable. Where else can find all this frustration or elation in one place. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I see all the reviews and I am impressed with the detail of the testing. I believe that the work MGS does serves as a watchdog on the golf industry. I do not yet know any other Spies as we often lurk in the shadows and comment on the threads that we are passionate about. Where are you from? What is your home course? My home is in Canton, GA, which is about 45 to 60 minutes northwest of Atlanta. My home course is Towne Lake Hills in Woodstock, GA. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? The best things about golfing in this area are the large number of courses to play within 20 miles of so. The worst things are the number of beginning golfers out on the course instead of in lessons or the driving range. They contribute to 5+ hour rounds. I am not in love with all the hills on courses, especially when Cart Path Only is required.. What do you do for a living? I am semi-retired and work part time as a food demonstrator at Sam's Club and also work at Towne Lake Hills as Starter and Ranger. How’d you pick your user name? My name was picked fir me by a former daughter-in-law who was differentiating from her father and the name stuck.
