In anticipation of the release of their new hardware (cleverly named Swingbyte 2.0), Swingbyte has released an update to their iPad app (Android version coming later).

The big deal? Video.

Now Swingbyte users will be able to record video of their swing and then compare video to their 3D image, video to video, or 3D to 3D. This just adds another layer to what was already the deepest app in the high tech swing trainer game.

How well does it work? For that answer, you'll need to wait for the High Tech Swing Trainer Shootout (hopefully coming sometime in June).

In the meantime, I'm curious what MGS reader think: does adding video to these devices add value in your opinion? Would it sway your purchasing decision? Do you use video now? Why or why not?

PRESS RELEASE

CHICAGO, Ill. (April 29, 2013) - Swingbyte 2.0, an enhanced version of the swing analyzer app that synchronizes video recording and trimming, is now available for iPad. The free app gives golfers and instructors access to precise 3-D club data alongside an accurate visual representation of body movement during the swing.

The app enables simultaneous, side-by-side and synchronized coordination of video with Swingbyte metrics and precisely trims and edits nonessential footage. Students and instructors can capture video with their iPad from any angle they choose, including face on or down the target line.

"The new app makes Swingbyte a must have on any instructor's lesson tee," said Brad Redding, a PGA Master Professional and director of instruction at The Golf Academy at The Members Club at Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach, S.C. "It gives students a perfect way to make their training sessions all about attaining and retaining better club control."

Swingbyte 2.0 will appear as a free app update for iOS users. A new user interface for Apple iPad is also included in the update. The iPhone will maintain the current user interface and receive stability enhancements. A new user interface, including in-app video for Android tablets and phones, will be announced later this year.

"We believe Swingbyte's 2.0 software creates dramatic and meaningful differences between Swingbyte and any other swing analysis system," said Brian Payne, a former PGA Professional and a Swingbyte founder. "The new app further accelerates Swingbyte's development into golf's ultimate teaching and learning platform."

Swingbyte's patent-pending Intelligent Target Recognition (ITR) technology, which allows users to evaluate golf swings relative to both the ball target and the direction of the club face at address, will be released in a separate update to the app.

Swingbyte, which is endorsed by several Top 100 instructors, weighs less than one ounce and attaches to any club just below the grip. As the club contacts a ball, the wireless sensor transmits a 3-D digital version of the swing to the Swingbyte app. Digitized and video recorded images of the swing - along with measurements of club head speed, swing plane, face angle, loft and lie angles and tempo - can be viewed on smartphones and tablets during practice sessions and archived in the cloud for future reference.

Swingbyte can be ordered through the company's website, Swingbyte.com, and purchased at more than 1,800 AT&T retail stores. Swingbyte's price of $149 includes the Swingbyte sensor, the free Swingbyte app and an online account at my.swingbyte.com, which includes additional analytics, community rankings and personal trends.

Oooooh, might just have to get that. Might wait for the shootout. But when the first review came out I thought adding video that was synchronized somehow would be great if there was a way to do it. Now there is a way! Cool!
