  1. Not sure if I'm going to be able to participate this go'round or not. Our illustrious governor here in NM has shut our State down, once again, as of this past Monday thru the end of the Month. This shut down also includes all Golf Courses and Tennis Courts, which are two of the best "social distance" type sports around. Knowing her, she'll keep us locked down thru December and hit the Trifecta of ruining Thanksgiving AND Christmas for us (she took out Easter back in April). Anyway, I could be done for the year golfing, which happens to be some of the best weather for it here in Albuquerque. I'm enjoying reading about everyone else's adventures tho.
  2. It's a sad day in the world of the Classic Bag Challenge. I took my set to the range today, along with my players and worked thru the irons after I'd warmed up with a few dozen balls. Did ok on the irons (my GOD do you get feed back on a "off" stroke ) and went to my 4 wood. Hit about 6 shots and heard a CRA_A_A_K_K *%^&#$!!!!!! Sigh, this beauty is done for. Grandfathers clubs...now a wall hanger. I'll take it to my Club Fitter and see if he can work some magic and at least repair the crack. I have another set of Woods that aren't near as pretty that I'll put in the bag, but this and the Driver will never see grass again.
  3. Dude, in the words of the great Lee Trevino, "Even God can't hit a 1-iron..."
  4. WOW NRJzyr, thanks for the history lesson. The little bit of research I had done, led me to believe they were older, love that you were able to narrow down the spectrum for me. So with what you've said, this would make these 20th Anniversary's then? This explains the "newness" of them, if they are a early to mid-eighties run. My Grandfather suffered from Alzheimer's the last 15-18 years of his life, and passed away in '98. That means he got only a year or two worth of rounds thru them. Well, I spent last night getting the hosel's pushed back down, as most had crept up about 1/4" - 1/2", and washed off the grips, which obviously are original, and in good shape. Found my old Ping 69ftl putter and put in the bag. Off to the driving range, can't wait!!
  5. They are amazingly clean, and my grandfather was quite the player if I remember correctly.
  6. Had them "on order" week before last, and "shipped" this past Monday. After not seeing any activity on the UPS Tracking # all week, I called PG and it looks like UPS lost my test clubs. Spoke with Tim (one of the owners) and he said they would start on a fresh set for me this morning and will ship out 2nd Day Air on Monday. So far, Customer Service is top notch.
  7. Man, I think I might join in this challenge. I have my grandfathers set of MacGregor Jack Nicholas Muirfield's (3-PW, D and 4w) that I "re-discovered" in my garage a couple months ago. I've been wanting to play them just for the h*ll of it just to see. This will give me a great excuse. I just need to reset the hosel's back into place on a few of them I "think" they are early to mid-70's era, and I don't think they are 20th Anniv editions that came out mid-eighties, so these will definitely make the cut. I have no idea what I'm getting myself into , but it'll be fun! Picture are after giving them a bath, that was very therapeutic.
  8. Assuming you mean the 8 iron, I think I've swung it once so far during a round. I'm still learning my gaps with the new set, as I'm smoking the distances from my Adam's I was playing.
  9. I'm really liking it. I had the Classic II for many years and really liked the feel of it, and came across this one, and yes the "spider-esquiness" caught my attention. It has a nice pendulum swing to it, and I like the mid-sized grip. I have made as many one-puts with it as I have 2-putts, so it's staying in the bag. If you search it out, you'll probably go right to the site I purchased from, (not sure if I'm allowed to mentioned other websites here). Got it for 1/2 price as it was an "open box", and didn't have a scratch on it. Thanks for the welcome!
  10. I had both of those carts in my radar a few weeks back when I was looking myself, and the foot brake/hand brake was something that was a factor. I had rented push carts for a couple rounds and one cart I had did have the foot brake, which seemed awkward at the time having to bend and step under the cart to set/release. That said, my 3rd option was a Bag Boy Nitron, and that's what I'm pushing now, and can't be happier. It DOES have the hand brake and I like it SO much better, just easier to manipulate. That would be my two-cents on the subject. The reason I chose the Bag Boy was for the one handed (basically) open/close one it. Just lift up, and it pretty much opens itself. This falls into your $200 price range of the Clic-gear. Good luck with your search!
  11. I just started on the Single Length Bandwagon with some Wishon 771csi's, 8-AW, with the 7i 1/2" longer. Did really well with them during the fitting, but haven't got a lot of road time in with them yet. So far, I'm happy, huge improvement over the Adam's I was slinging before.
  12. Ok, I picked them up last week and have been able to get some time at the range, plus a 1/2 round in so far. We got dumped on snow wise the last two days (about 12", which is NOT normal) so it'll be a few days before it dries out enough to go play again. So far, I'm loving them!
  13. Hey guys, fairly new guy here and am joining the WITB bandwagon. I played pretty regularly (and poorly at that) about 20 years ago and took time off to raise a family, but now the kids have flown the coup and I started back up again about 3 months ago. Still had my 25 year old clubs, but wanted to come into this century so bought some used Adams off FB Marketplace to get started and went at it with private lessons and 4-5 days at the range. Well, that was all well and good for about 2 months but they just weren't going to do the trick, length, weight, flex all WRONG. Decided to go to local guy here in Albuquerque, The Golfmiester, and got fitted for a new set of clubs Wishon 771csi's Single Length Irons (7-AW) with Velyix Alpina 673 Shafts (the 7i is 1/2" longer than the rest of the set - worked out better that way) Acer 7w/11w Combo with LAGP Reign Silver Shafts American Open Sand Wedge bent to 55* Top Flight Wedge bent to 58* Ray Cook Putter - Had a Classic II from the past and really liked it, so I upgraded myself to the one in the pictures. Callaway FTi -I'll still hit my this until the $$ vein can replenish itself over the winter months I am doing a test run with Patriot Golf and will be using their Driver, and 3-5-9w. We'll see if those make it into the bag. Looking forward to advice and camaraderie with fellow enthusiasts.
  14. Great Review longdrivenate, I appreciate all the detail. I think I might go ahead and call and do this myself. I just wonder how difficult it will be to get the RMA to return the "test woods" at the end? Just got fitted for a new set of high irons (7-Gw) plus a 7w and 11w. Will be interesting to see what the 3w and 5w are like. And here we go, 3w/5w/9w are on the way. Don't need the 7w to test as I have one in my new set. Charge upfront, and then have to deal with the return/refund process at the end. Talked with Gary, and got the same "schpiel" that longdrivenate did, about crushing the ball and custom made for you, etc. Other than that, nice guy overall.
  15. New clubs - T minus 14 days.... So I'm new on the block here, and loving the forum and the site overall. Started golfing 28-30 years ago, played (if you call it that) for 10-15 years, had kids, and well...life focused on them. Oldest just graduated with his BS/ME degree going for his Masters, and youngest is in his Senior year in International Business. Time well spent, but now it's my time. I was fit at Golf Mart 25 years ago with a set of Tour Edge Comp 950's, and continued to play poorly, and knew those were NOT coming back out into daylight this go 'round. I picked up a set of Adams off FB Marketplace 3 months ago (4i-GW) for $100, signed up for lessons at my local course and away I went. Did pretty well, but was still having consistency issues, and in watching YT's and reading here, it was apparent that these didn't fit (ya think FB purchase clubs LOL). I'm still a corrective work in progress (my instructor has TOTALLY revamped my swing) and getting better on a weekly basis. I played my first round 3 weeks ago (after 20 years) and shot a 94, I was happy dancing. When I played way back when, I finally broke 100 my last two rounds. So I spent the last week with a local club fitter (roughly 8-10 hours over 3 days) in his office interviewing what I want out of this game, and then another 5-6 hours out at the driving range (real range, not hitting against a curtain). He watched me on my clubs (9i, 7i, 5-hyb, and driver) , and said your mechanics are there and need some tweaking, but overall you're striking the ball pretty well. He said "here, try this club" (his personal 7i) and HOLY SHAWINGY Batman...an extra 30 yards on first hit. We went thru a bunch of other clubs, of which I especially loved his 7w and 11w. Overall was seeing a 15-20 yard increase club to club against my set, and was hitting his 7w about as far as my Driver (200y). So all said and done he's putting me into the Wishon 771's, 8i-GW in single length, a 7i 1/2" longer, all with Veylix Alpina 673 R-flex shafts, then a 7W and 11W (I can't recall the shaft on those). We'll deal with the Driver later (have to let the $$ blood vein fill back up), and will probably be my Christmas present to myself. So I have to play on my Adam's for another couple weeks, but Heaven awaits around the corner. I'll post pix then, and my progress as I get used to playing them, and hope to see my scores go low, and get me set at a decent starting handicap. That's all for now, keep it down the middle and outa the junk.
  16. I'm gonna follow this topic as I have just this week gone thru three separate fitting appointments with a local guy here in town (been around since the 90's). I am pretty positive that I am going to be fitted with some Wishon heads, altho not entirely sure which model. I hit his personal set, which were pretty spot on to my fitting profile, and was adding 15-25+ yards per club. As I keep telling my fitter, "I don't know what I don't know, so enlighten me" as I've been out of the game for 20 years. That said, I've never played "name" clubs, so I don't know any different, but from hitting my Adams Ideatech A40sr 7i 130y to his Wishon 575 7i 165yds I was sold on Tom's design. And yes, I know it's much more than just the head. Looking forward to future comments.
  17. Thanks Manimal26! It's a God-Given talent I truly love. It's similar to golf, once you think you got it figured out and your pretty good, she's a cruel mistress that will humble you like noob.
  18. Hey Everyone, Just recently joined up and am going thru the motions getting settled in here. So....here we go How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I've been around golf now for 30 years, but took a 20 year hiatus raising a family and doing what needed to be done with that. Both my boys are now in College and thriving, so time to pick it back up and remember how to swing a club. No handicap yet, working on it, but am shooting in the mid-20's right now (only been back at it for 3 months) but hoping for the teens. What do you love about golf? The ability to just play against yourself, but also being able to meet new people out there when you get grouped up. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? Was doing a lot of research on equipment and technical stuff and came across the site. Seemed like a good place to land. Haven't been here long enough to find any local spies, but I'm guessing they'll be showing themselves soon LOL Where are you from? What is your home course? Albuquerque NM / Arroyo del Oso What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? 300+ days of golf / 65 days we can't play What do you do for a living? Accounting duties for a Machining / Tooling Distributor How’d you pick your user name? I am an active trumpet player of 45+ years and my favorite horn at the time was a Bach Stradivarius Model 43, and it was...yes Silver (still is actually), thus Silverhorn43 Looking forward to joining in and picking up tips and info from the long timers in here. Hope to see you roaming the fairways
  19. 2x here on what you thought of the clubs? I also got that same email from Hole19 (twice now) and was thinking of biting, as it does appear to be at minimal risk, and I'll always take a free driver I guess. I'm sure the offer will last a while. Looking forward to your thoughts.
