Date 12/09/2022 Course Name Angel Park Palm Gross Score 89 Course Handicap 23 Gross Strokes over/under par 19 Net Score to Par -4 Net Score 66 Net Birdies or better 7 Longest Drive 245 Finally had a round come together without multiple big blowup holes and several natural pars. 6 net birdies and 1 net eagle! The driver cooperated, the irons were good, decent green side play, and only 31 putts.
  2. So I put the current ProV1 and the Proto 388 through the paces today on the BLP. I had to filter out a lot of bad shots in an attempt to get a decent pool that was comparable in how well I hit the ball. Other than realizing that I am still a very inconsistent golfer , I THINK I see a difference in the performance between the 2 balls. I started hitting the V1 then went to the proto then went back to the V1 so it was hopefully not a difference between being warmed up and not.I’m going to go through the same thing in the next day or two with the V1X and 348. On a note unrelated to these balls, I have found that when I start to just hit a bunch of balls in a row that I forget the basics and just start swinging really hard. When hitting into a net, you don’t really have a pre-shot routine to slow you down and get you focused. Gotta come up with some sort of routine to help keep me focused and consistent.
  3. Played a round today with the 388 proto and I really like this ball. I like the lower launch off the driver but still has good spin on the irons. My opinion of the ball is influenced by the fact I was playing pretty well today. I ended up losing 3 total proto balls today which is a bummer. Errant shots near water plus a windy day make for a bad combination. Probably Saturday or Sunday I’ll get on the launch monitor to get some quantifiable performance differences between the new and old balls.
  4. Date 12/02/2022 Course Name Rhodes Ranch GC Gross Score 91 Course Handicap 20 Gross Strokes over/under par 20 Net Score to Par 0 Net Score 71 Net Birdies or better 4 Longest Drive 292 Finally put a decent round together today. Driver and irons were working, putter was a little off. I had more 3 putt bogeys than I have in a long time. I did have a birdie on a par 3 where I rolled the ball to within 2’ of the pin. With my handicap, does that mean I get to claim a hole in one? Just kidding. Felt good to play well again. 2 blow up holes really cost my score.

Date 11/29/2022 Course Name Angel Park Mountain Gross Score 103 Course Handicap 22 Gross Strokes over/under par 32 Net Score to Par 10 Net Score 81 Net Birdies or better 3 Longest Drive 256 When I started Par Par you know I thought today was going to be one for the record books. A few bad holes with 2 full blown blowup holes did me in. 2 net birdies and 1 net eagle were the highlights of my day.
  6. Here I am looking like a schmoe waiting for it to appear so I can post my score. Getting 2 rounds in this week to hopefully redeem myself.
  7. Played a round today using the 348 and it worked very well for me. I liked the ball flight. Next round will be on Thursday with the 388. I let a friend play one of my used 388’s today as he is usually a Pro V1 guy and he said he couldn’t really tell a performance difference but that it felt softer off of the club face. It had a little gouge on the cover so I was going to cut it up but then he lost it on the 17th hole. I got the Bushnell Launch Pro set up and over the next few days I’ll try to get some 7 iron spin/flight numbers to post up.
  8. There are definitely some on LIV that are loud but not all of them. There are some on PGA that are loud but not all of them. It’s just a personality type that isn’t exclusive to one league or the other.
  9. I picked up a Bushnell Launch Pro on Black Friday and it will be delivered tomorrow. I plan on putting the current and proto balls on to see if I can quantify any performance differences between the new and old balls. This is very exciting for me.
  10. What changes have you noticed from the current V1 and the 388? For the life of me, I don’t think I can tell a difference. Edit: just saw you already responded. Thanks for the info.
  11. Date 11/22/2022 Course Name Angel Park Palm Gross Score 93 Course Handicap 16 Gross Strokes over/under par 23 Net Score to Par 7 Net Score 77 Net Birdies or better 5 Longest Drive 284 Got out early this week since Thanksgiving will not allow a round later this week. Finally started to play like I feel like I should. The driver was mostly cooperating and had a few drives in the 280 yard range. Best one was 284. In the other thread, I am testing the Titleist prototype balls and was able to use the V1X and 348 today. They are great balls that perform very well. I still can’t tell a difference between the new and old 348 dimple ball.
  12. Date 11/18/2022 Course Name The Club at Sunrise Gross Score 105 Course Handicap 21 Gross Strokes over/under par 33 Net Score to Par 12 Net Score 84 Net Birdies or better 2 Longest Drive 240 Was having a hard time finding a course that had an opening on a Friday that worked for my schedule. My buddies and I decided to try this place called the Club at Sunrise. It is a course that literally every single hole runs along a drainage easement and every single hole has said easement on the right hand side of the very narrow fairways. If you are a guy like me who plays a fade that sometimes gets a little slicey, this is a recipe for disaster. The drainage easement is a good 15 yards lower in elevation and the rough is disgustingly long Bermuda grass. Even if you didn’t actually go all the way down into the water, the ball is most likely lost in the rough. I lost 8 balls. 8! I hate this game. I’m playing again Monday.
  13. Played a round today with some friends. Didn’t really keep score but I did try to hit both the 348 proto and the V1X off the tee and on certain approach shots. I’m still unable to discern a difference between the two versions. I did hit an errant tee shot into the dirt that damaged the cover enough to not want to hit it off the tee anymore. Now it’s time to cut it open! The photo on top is the prototype. The one below is what I pulled from MGS Ball Lab. I can confirm that they are indeed different balls. Different size cores and the materials are different colors.
  14. Do you feel like the 4 shots better was because of the ball or because you just played a little better? There have been many times where the front and back scores look like they came from different people even though I played the same ball.
  15. I am having a hard time telling a difference between the new vs old. Some of that is definitely my lack of experience. My personal opinion at this time is there isn't really that much different between them. I've got a friend who "says" he can tell the difference between balls and I'm going to put him to the test. He will get the blind shot and see if he can tell any difference. I think the performance between the new vs old is more of a small change than a rework.
  16. If you go back, I would like to see official comparisons between the current release V1 and V1X to the 388 and 348 prototypes. In my experience thus far, I don't think I can tell a difference between new and old.
  17. So my guess would be Tour Response, MTB Black, 388, then 348. How close am I? All of those spin rates with the driver are actually closer than I would have guessed.
  18. Thanks for the kind words. I fixed my net birdie score. I won’t be playing anymore this week since I’ll be flying to Cancun on Thursday (envy me). I’ll get a couple rounds in next week though. Vegas summers suck big time but the other 8-9 months are very conducive to playing golf. You have to bundle up a little bit when it gets “really” cold but the courses are open year round.
  19. Date 11/08/2022 Course Name Las Vegas National Gross Score 100 Course Handicap 18 Over/(Under) 29 Net Score to Par 11 Net Score 82 Net Birdies or better 3 Longest Drive 243 Still shite play. It was really windy so we played the “middle” tees which considerably shortened the course. I was thinking it would make the course easier since I would be hitting my driving iron instead of my normal driver. I was wrong. I did have 2 holes where I had a little sparkle. One net birdie and one net eagle. That’s the first actual birdie I’ve had in months.
  20. Have you tried to compare the current gen balls with the prototypes? Like for like? I can tell a difference between the 348 and 388 but I cannot hardly tell a difference between the new and old balls. It’s kind of bumming me out that I can’t tell a difference. If I had to do a blind test, I’d say I got a placebo.
  21. I have around today in a couple hours. I plan on comparing the 388 to the current V1. It’s windy out so I am hoping to see if there is any discernible difference between the 2 balls as far as wind performance. That was rumored to be a benefit of this new ball. Normally on windy days I stick with my low spin AVX or Tour Response but I’ve gotta do what I can for the test.
  22. I‘ve got a round scheduled in a few hours from now. Hoping to finally play as well as my handicap says I should. If nothing else, I can be the clubhouse leader once again.
  23. Do you know how hard it is to hit two comparable golf shots in a row? For me, it is almost impossible. Almost. I went and played the Durango Hills par 58 today with the intent of comparing the current V1X and the 348 proto. Unfortunately, my ball striking was a little inconsistent. It was cold and windy so the course was pretty wide open so I had plenty of opportunities to hit multiple shots. I am not sure I can tell the difference between the two balls with the possible exception of little half swing chip shots. The 348 proto seemed to pop a little bit more off of the face. I would purposely drop both balls in the same spot and take as close to similar swings as possible without knowing which ball was which. On the certain occasions where I had good contact both times, I felt like the proto would pop a little bit more. Not necessarily higher, but definitely farther. On normal iron shots and drives, I don’t think I could tell any difference. Here is a photo I took of a 150yd shot where both hits were good. Very similar trajectory and distance. The one on the left was the proto. It stopped about 2’ farther away from the pitch mark than the V1X. The difference in distance between the two would be considered margin of error for a guy like me.
  24. So one thing I am going to try and focus on is how much of a difference can I tell (if any) between the current gen balls and these prototypes. I would assume that if there isn't a big difference then other people, like myself, would be more inclined to stock up on the current gen balls when they go on sale before the next gen balls come out. I had picked up a few dozen AVX at the end of last year when they discounted them because the new AVX was coming out and I'm glad I did. Discounted premium golf balls are always nice to have. I don't know how long this test will be going on but I'm also selling the wifey hard on getting either a Launch Pro or GC3 if they go on sale for Black Friday. The metrics from the PLM would really be able to reinforce what I feel/see on the course. We will see how this unfolds.
