  1. SS has replaced my watchband for that exact reason. They asked me to try a couple of tests, and then shipped out the replacement. The usual great customer service. I would suggest contacting their support to get the ball rolling.
  2. So excited for this week ! Good luck to all that enter. I figure I have as good a chance as winning as some of the odds listed for my selections winning the Masters , LOL ! 1st Tie Breaker Cut Number +3 and better makes the cut 2nd Tie Breaker - low amateur Neal Shipley Thanks MGS Forum and Titelist !
  3. I got the same offer directly from SS being a current user (V3). Interestingly, it has nav buttons around the watch instead of the touch screen. I'm not going to like, I'm glad I didn't upgrade to the X5 and stuck with my V3 given some of the reports I've read here. Curious if the button navigation on this V5 might help with some of the recurring issues the X5 has had. I'll still be waiting and seeing. Still love SS though.
  4. Congrats testers !!! Interested to hear how these do and if anyone is able to directly compare them to previous models as I was hoping to, LOL !!! I like my Speed Fire's, and they are extremely stable. If the new generation is truly as good and lighter, that would be awesome, and I'll be purchasing a pair. Really wish there was a brown color way of some sort tho.
  5. I ordered all Tour Star 360 in red, white, and one blue. I only ordered different colors to more or less match the shafts. I've only installed the blue one at this point, so I don't really have a lot of feedback to provide at this time. To be fully transparent, I don't really know what I like in grips, at least not yet. I've always just used what came on them until recently. I ordered this style only because I put a MCC plus 4 on my driver last year and like the shape of it, not necessarily the cord feeling though. I had a CP2 grip on it previously, but thought it was too soft and squishy. I have a 3 wood with the wrap style Golf Pride Tour Wrap 2G that I've always liked. I will say the Tour Star doesn't feel anything like the 2G to me. The 2G ridges are much more pronounced and you can really feel it. The best way I can describe the Tour Star is "smoothish". Don't get me wrong, it seems fairly tacky and I haven't felt my hand slip or twist (nor the grip either), there just doesn't seem to be much if any texture to it, if that make sense. I need to give it a little more use and time, but I'm kind of wondering if I shouldn't have ordered the sidewinder for the texture, and simply built them up to match the plus 4 shape. My other clubs have always come with the "standard" grips, like Tour Velvet or Crossline 360. I prefer a standard size. Even as I write this I don't know what I want. I can say I do not want a jumbo or squishy grip. Guess I'll have to keep tinkering, lol !
  6. I ordered enough Star grips to get the free air gun and did it with the air compressor. I bought a used driver online and it came with a gigantic Jumbo Max grip on it. Very different than anything I had ever seen. I was very anxious to test out the driver with a "normal" ish grip on it, so I removed the Jumbo Max grip as quickly as possible, did not remove any tape, threw on a couple wraps near the bottom of masking tape, and blew the grip on easily. One session at the range with no perceived issues, other than my swing. Need some more time for a more complete impression, but early indication is I like it. Honestly, I did it poorly and am going to redo it, because I only had a few minutes. Tape job is too long and sticking out (old grip was longer). Just really, really wanted to get that club to the range ! That's the beauty of these grips! I suspected that it should be easy to install, and just as easy to take off and reinstall if I needed to, so I didn't worry about how well I did it. No pressure for a newbie, and no pressure to get it exactly right.
  7. Loving this thread !! Great info from all of the testers and other contributors. I was hoping to be one of the chosen, as I need new grips, but since I wasn't, I went ahead and ordered to try them out. Based on what I've read so far, glad I have. Only installed one to test out a different driver, but I like the initial impressons. Never re-gripped a club before, but it was very easy.
  8. I use the V3 and switched to manual putting fairly early on, and have never looked back. Manual mode eliminates all of the issues related to the tag, more accurately, having to move or secure it between different putters and/or grips. Simply update your bag and done. If you truly cannot use manual putt mode with the Connex, that is a bit disappointing for those users. This will be my 3rd year using it, and I've had 2 of the sensors break all ready this year. One I discovered cleaning my clubs and is lost, the other when I tried to remove it and the peg just twisted off. SS is sending replacements and assures me there is no reason to be concerned about any of the other tags, but I guess we'll see.
  9. As much has it has been mentioned, I'm not really sure I can say Wilson again, but their new Dynapower Forged irons are so sweet, I'm going to anyway. Tried them at a demo day and am still pining for them. Shout out to their new AI fit system too. If I see a lot of Wilson on the courses this season, I'll come back and edit this post, but doubt I'll have to worry about it. Quite a few mentions of the Cobra woods, but if I didn't love my Evenroll putter so much, I'd be looking to pick up one of those 3D putters in a heartbeat. If/ when the stroke goes cold later, you may see me stalking them again. Last but not least, I love the Oncore Elixr balls! Really you could probably mention any DTC ball brand, so much better value for almost/exactly the same playability as the big name balls for almost everyone out there. But if I had to play a "top end" ball, it would be a Srixon.
  10. Congratulations testers on being selected ! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences with these wedges.
  11. Nearly every club in my bag is from Rock Bottom Golf, or Global Golf, and most of them were purchased used. I like that you are able to trade in clubs, but it does come with limitations, in that you get the higher value as store credit, but then you are limited to their inventory. There is a lot of used inventory, but it comes and goes, and you do need to know what you are looking for. Really enjoyed that this article was part of the newsletter, however, do we really want more golfers in on our secret? It's getting harder and harder to find quality used equipment out in the real world for yourself or trade value. I for one, will not be sharing any further secrets !
  12. Seems like you lefties have hijacked my thread ! TOTALLY KIDDING !! I'm actually a lefty also, but golf right handed. Natural progression from baseball, and more so a two handed backhand in tennis. I empathize with you all !
  13. I actually just stumbled upon this earlier this week and found it fascinating. So much so I am wishing every shaft had this listed on it. Shafts are so damn mysterious and even when you look up the "chart" on it, it tells you very little. In truth, you never really know until you swing one. Since there is no shaft standardization scale, this might be a step in the right direction to help in that regard.
  14. Great intro fellow Wisconsinite ! Good luck, and don't let the others know, but I'm pulling for ya, lol. I'm sure it will be great though as I also believe in the luck of 13 !
  15. Like almost everyone has said, if you have a solid idea what you are looking for, go for it. Most of my current and past clubs have been previous models or used clubs. I've bought several used clubs from Global Golf and Rock Bottom Golf that the clubs looked in better condition than described in my opinion. There are other reputable used club sites out there as well. Most of them offer the ability to trade in clubs also, which is another way to offset any new costs for clubs you are getting. Another thing I haven't seen mentioned that I want to add. MUCH OF THE USED and PREVIOUS MODEL EQUIPMENT will have a return window where you can try it out for a certain period of time, and if it isn't right for you, you send it back and you're just out the shipping cost. For example, I recently purchased a "like new" Cobra LTDx LS driver at a great price, but turned out the shaft was not the fit I had hoped for. I had paid for it with existing credit from previous trades, and was just out the $10 prepaid shipping lable to return it. Just be careful with this so you don't miss the return window. It can vary quite a bit and not all items are part of it, so be thorough before you order it.
  16. Great review, and great looking putter. Checked out the website briefly, and they are gorgeous. Not looking for a new putter, but going to be keeping my eye on this !
  17. Congrats to all the chosen ones! Add another to the list interested in hearing as much about the fitting process as the putters themselves!
  18. That is correct, it is a standalone club. It is a "standard" Wilson Iron with a standard stock steel shaft, and a Blast Motion Sensor in the butt of the handle. The sensor takes the data from your 5 swings, plugs it into their algorithm, and spits out your recommendation results. We hear from all the OEM's how they took thousands and thousands of swing data points, plugged it into their AI whatever to create all the latest and greatest equipment for all of us, which is cool. I say KUDOS to Wilson for taking it to the next step creating a tool that drills right down to each individual directly. We're always told the key to getting proper equipment is get fit. What's better than easy, simple, quick, and accurate fittings for everyone?
  19. I tried the shaft optimizer a couple years back, like cnosil says, similar, but not. Results were interesting, but not as much as I was hoping for I guess. Exactly the attitude that particular fitter had about it to interestingly. What I'm really desperately waiting for is a driver shaft/ head optimizer or AI fitting. Maybe I'd be able to find a decent driver swing again, LOL !
  20. I attended a Wilson demo day yesterday at my nearby PGA SS, mostly because of this specific article earlier this week just to see these in person and try them out, but also find out more about their new AI fit system ( just posted a thread about it, check it out if you're interested ) ! I'll start by saying the author John is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT about trying these out with extreme caution. They absolutely will make you rethink what you're playing. I was not a fan of the Dynapower line when first introduced, even though I am a big Wilson fan. I still game 2 C300 hybrids, and have played numerous other Wilson golf products over the years. I liked the D9 forged so much, I really tried to make them work, but alas, I'm not a good enough ball striker to have pulled the trigger. These Dynapower forged were absolutely incredible when properly set up. Forgiveness and distance were massively improved over the D9's in my opinion. Particularly love the power hole explosiveness feel. These player distance irons were better than my GI Stealth iron, at least on this particular day. Maybe not by a huge amount, but enough to warrant consideration. Which honestly, is difficult for me to say because the Stealth irons are so damn forgiving, and have treated many of my shots much better than I deserved, and I really don't want to invest in new irons right now. Have to spend my funds elsewhere, lol ! We've all been warned, so take heed. I kinda wish I had, because I am having a hard time not thinking about how pure they felt and performed.
  21. Ever since I first read about it, I've been extremely intrigued about the Wilson Golf Fit AI system. Kinda seems to good to be true. Admittedly, I kinda have a soft spot for Wilson and I'm always pulling for them. Noticed they had a demo event near me recently, but hadn't planned on attending as I am not really looking to purchase new irons at this time. That is until I read the Dynapower forged iron article this week on MGS, decided to go ahead and sign up to check those beauties out. I really like the sales rep (he's been real good to me in the past), saw no one else had RSVP'd at the time, so I went ahead and scheduled. I arrived a little early and he quickly set me up in an open hitting bay, and inquired what I was looking for. Made it clear I was really just there to check out the new forged offering, and see what the AI fit was all about. He suggested I try different shafts out for a while and then we'll do the AI fit. I warmed up a bit with my 7 iron, and then he was quickly back with the forged fitting iron to try out in the stock shaft. 7-10 swings with that, then onto a different shaft. Think I tried 4 different shafts with mixed results. On paper, these shafts would possibly be good fits or ones I had interest in. Then we did the AI fit. Took just a few minutes on his phone to answer various typical questions you'd expect, then he handed me the fitting iron with the blast sensor in it, and asked me to take 5 swings. The fitting sensor in the butt of the club is the only sensor, for those wondering. Took my time to try and make 5 solid swings. I'll say 3 were solid, one bad, one ehhh. So much for that plan, but honestly, pretty typical for a good hacker, as I often refer to myself as. Stepped out of the bay, he hit the button on his phone, and in less than a minute, it spit out results. One steel shaft and one graphite shaft selection. Off he went to build the club. I play graphite currently, so was back in a minute with that option. I have to say, it nailed it !!!! REALLY NAILED IT !!!!! Other than one extremely bad swing, results were amazing. All of em, literally. Felt so good, most hammering the sweet spot (really love the power holes sweet spot feel) on most shots, and still good solid numbers when not hitting it. I should point out I had tried the same shaft model but at a different weight in the initial 4 shafts before the AI fitting, with probably the worst results out of all of the initial shafts. Then I switched to the recommended steel shaft setup, and also got phenomenal results. Slightly shorter, slightly tighter dispersion than the graphite recommendation, but still outstanding. Really felt the power hole sweet spot explosiveness more with the steel shaft set up, but I attribute that to the fact of the material. I was very impressed with the system. Obviously I'm only one example, but it was pretty quick and easy, and my results were frankly incredible. The only change we made was not doing the recommended 2 up lie angle that was recommended, simply the flat standard setting. FWIW, he mentioned more than one fitter he has talked to in the past believes they see way too many 2 up lie angle recommendations. SO, Is this the future of fittings, can it be expanded to cover any type club, can one be created that is entirely brand agnostic? Would love to hear what others think or if they've tried it ? 22. Always so much hype when the new models come out, and as much as my brain says one thing, my desires say another ! Golf obsession is soooo much fun, but oh soooo dangerous! I'm looking to upgrade this year and lower my spin, and just started testing out some models. Told the fitter right away I wasn't interested in paying $600 for a new driver, and then the next day I see the Dark Speed model, and have to admit I think I have a little crush on it !
  23. I've been using the claw grip for about a year and a half now, and have oftened wondered the same question. Here's what I've found for myself so far. I'll second the SS claw grip. I have the 1.0 on the putter I began the year with and found it real good, and have the 2.0 version on the Evnroll putter I switched toward the end of the season. The 2.0 is quite a bit larger and the pistol is more pronounced, IMO. I've also experimented with the Lamkin Sink Fit Pistol Rubber Putter Grip and liked it. I've also tried the Flatso, and the Flat Cat briefly, and did not like them, and/or did not find they worked well. Here's why. As Alfred said, the pistol grip is crucial for locking the left hand in for the smooth, stable stroke you are looking for, at least for me. I was sure the Flatso grip would be perfect because of the wide, flat front surface, but turned out not so much. Good luck with the stroke. Distance control was the hardest part for me at first, but after adjusting to the claw grip, it's better now than ever.
