  1. Not as flash as some of my other posts, but nonetheless recent acquisitions. Maltby Pro Series Ultra Light wood shaft, 44g L-flex. For my Otto Phlex experiment. Avon Chamois jumbo grip. SuperStroke Cross Contact midsize grip. Grips are to test for shock reduction, and overall quality and gripiness as potention Golfpride replacements. Sent from my SM-N986U1 using Tapatalk
  2. For those that are using tape along with the blow-on method, what type of tape are you using? Masking or Painter's Tape? Or maybe a different tape?
  3. First off, just take the scorecard and mark an eagle on every hole. There will always be one or two teams that come in with some BS score. So just start there. Off the tee: Most accurate up first, regardless of length. Get one in play. Next two guys can swing out of their shoes. Last guy will likely be your best combo of length and accuracy with nerves of steel in case the other 3 screw the team off the tee. Approach play is pretty much the same. Best/2nd best first, followed by the 2 question marks, and lastly either the best or 2nd best approach player. This can adjust based on par and distance. Putting, as mentioned, is the most important. Take either the best or 2nd best guy up first. Give the chance to make right away, but if not the others should get a great read for their putts. Last guy is either the best or most nervy, where the middle 2 are just those "other" guys. But, in the end, have some fun. Most scrambles are charitable events. So enjoy the time, and help the charity however you can.
  4. My swing speed is around 100 and my Maltby UL L-flex is arriving today. After reading some of Stu's comments about the Maltby shafts, he feels they play slightly firmer than their flex suggests. So that got me thinking to go slightly less than I would have, which means L-flex. Take that for what you want.
  5. I'm only about 5-8 minutes from each of my home courses. So I will leave the house 1 hr before my tee time. Gives me time to get there, unload to the bag drop, change shoes, pay for my round, get loaded up, unpack what I need to, get a small bucket to warm up with, get some time on the putting green, then get to the first tee. It's not down to a science, yet. But I'm working on it.
  6. I'm just thinking he can call is professional education or job skill enhancement/development.
  7. Good morning, Spies!! Happy TGIFF!!! Weather turned on me this morning, which I wasn't expecting. It was raining when I got up and it's still drizzling. Apparently it's supposed to go till around noon. Booo. Gonna make tomorrow and Sunday's rounds a bit squishy I have a feeling. We'll just have to wait and see I guess. Interesting round 1 of the draft last night. The first handful were pretty much as expected, then Atlanta tossed in a grenade picking Penix Jr. Sign Cousins for 4 yrs, $180M, then draft the 24 year old Penix?! They'd have been better off with McCarthy, who's younger and doesn't have the injury history. Oh well, I guess that's why I'm not in the room. Today should be interesting as well. The first 2 rounds are always fun to watch. So we'll see what happens. No question the NFL draft is the best draft to watch. High drama, franchises making head-scratching and even flat out dumb decisions (I'm looking at your Raiders, just not this year). It's high popcorn-eating stuff! Well, I'd better go try and focus on getting some work done today. Have a fantastic Friday!
  8. Nicely done! I'd be curious to know how the grooves react now to the ball with that little etching there. I'm sure it's not PGA legal now, but it's still super cool.
  9. I agree with you Byrnzee. To me, he's the absolutely most likeable guy on tour right now. He has all the right attitude and he's family first, which I'm a fan of.
  10. The SW that seems to work best for most people is around D2. Not everyone is the same, but I've seen more posts in this thread around that number. That's where I'm starting.
  11. There are a quite a few that bug me lately. I won't rehash the Tiger thing, since it was hit on properly above. Right now, probably Cantlay. He's just so slow to play and has that "I'm special" attitude about him that just bugs the crap out of me.
  12. Eric Cogorno Golf is having a 50% off their annual membership/package, until 5/10. https://cogornogolf.com/ I will likely be trying this out myself as the cost per month is much less than my local coach.
  13. Good morning, Spies!! What a beautiful morning, albeit a little chilly. Sun is shining bright, no clouds in the sky. Gonna be a great day. Just another work day today. Nothing super special. Oh wait, that's not true!! NFL DRAFT!!!!! Hell yeah. I love watching the draft. It's crazy drama and franchises making extremely dumb decisions. Gonna be great! Mom's making stuffed peppers tonight, so I'll be going over for dinner. That'll be a great dinner tonight and likely this weekend too with leftovers. Mmmmmm.... Then there's the community call this afternoon, which is always enjoyable. So I guess it's not just another day.
  14. So what do you use your 4w, 4h, 5h, and 7w for? Are they just approach clubs or do they get tee time or are the 4/5h from the rough where the 4/7w are not? You should start with a bit of a note-taking session going club by club through your bag. What does each club do, how far does each club go, where do I use each club, etc. Sometimes that will give you answers on what to keep, what to get rid of, and what to swap in and out. I tend to swap my 4h and 5w in and out depending on needs, for example. Looking at the 245's, their lofts at the lower end of the set matches your 0211's (PW 43, GW 48), so changing wedges at the bottom is purely what you want to do. If you can't open the 58 or aren't comfortable with that and need something with more loft for around the greens, you might think about grabbing a 60 and swapping it for the 58 or have them available depending on course and conditions. Something you might want to consider doing is either a gapping session with your fitter for each club in your bag, or just do a full bag fitting (or a top-end fitting) and determine what clubs you may or may not need. Obviously we can help give you some ideas, but a quality fitter can give better recommendations as they look at the numbers in a fitting. Another option if the hybrids, 7w, and 6i are too close would be to cut down the hybrids a little to open up the gapping a little more. Or if you don't want to go that far is to adjust the lofts if possible. I believe all the woods and hybrids have adjustable hosels, so that might be an option to spread out the gaps. For me, I'd start with the fitting/gapping session for D-6i and see what it looks like in numbers with your current set up. The fitter might be able to adjust lofts on the spot to help with any gapping issues they find.
  15. I've actually read several articles talking about having wedges more flat to prevent the heel from digging. I like that idea, especially with an LW where it might be open or you may need to ensure you don't dig on something "clippy." I may try this with my next set of wedges to see how it goes.
  16. Yeah, a new Joy is $150 on sale for Mother's Day. I'll need to check out eBay and other local for sale stuff. I'd prefer it be new if I'm going to get one just to ensure it works perfectly and stuff. The little quiz to find your perfect Cricut said I needed the Explore 3, but that's if I want to use it for more things. I think the Joy would be just fine for this need and if I want to make labels for my pantry containers and the like.
  17. I'm just really interested in what trades happen on day 1. Who goes up for a QB and who trades down. It's going to be a lot of fun to watch.
  18. Yup, this is awesome. So I'll be adding a Cricut to my list of "Needs."
  19. So I am seriously considering soft-stepping my TS1-IM / Recoil Prototype 125 build. This was brought on by my Mizuno Shaft Optimizer outcome from last week's Demo Day, where the KBS Tour S Soft-Stepped was the #1 recommendation. I hadn't thought about soft-stepping before until this outcome. I did a little digging into the shafts and found that several have mentioned it can be a bit stiffer than it's flex states, especially at the higher weight like mine are. So it sent me into a bit of a rabbit hole on seeing with the swing weights would be if I went down this road. Luckily, the shafts I bought were 4-PW w/ 3 wedge shafts. So soft-stepping wouldn't be an issue from a shaft availability perspective. I do like the idea to add a bit more feel to the clubs and slightly loosen up the flex a bit. The weights of these were what the MSO did suggest, which was nice. Wish I had a frequency machine to actually check them. One day. Still mulling it over though. I'll have a bit to work through all that, as the 5i and GW won't be in until sometime in May.
  20. Good morning Spies, and happy WedNesDay!! It's a drizzly and slightly chilly morning here. It should be gone within the hour though. Strangely enough, this Saturday/Sunday are looking great for golf with rain bookending the weekend. Usually it's the other way around, but I'm not complaining. I'm reworking my Maltby TS1-IM / Recoil Prototype 125 iron set to look at soft-stepping them. I've heard these can be a bit more tip-stiff than the regular Recoils, and after my Mizuno Shaft Optimizer outcome last week with the KBS Tour Stiff Soft-Stepped being my #1 recommendation, it got me thinking about this. So I'm working up some numbers to see what swing weights would be and all that for when I get the last 2 heads in next month (hopefully). Numbers are actually a lot more consistent than without SS'ing them. I still need to add some weight to the tip end, but not as much and not to all of them. This is still rolling around in my brain, but it was a nice exercise yesterday to get it all on paper. Well, everyone have a fantastic day!!!
  21. I agree there are always caveats to pretty much any type of golf "rule" out there like these. If a 3 wood goes 250 on your best day and 230 average, it might not be worth trying to clear a hazard that requires a 240 carry for example. But I think these are great to start with and adjust for each course, hole, and shot.
  22. Ok, that's awesome!! Can you share the details on how this is done? I'd love to do this to my Maltby builds if I can successfully test it.
  23. Thanks for the link. I've heard that Winn's are pretty good on shock absorption. I'll look at the SS grips too, since they're price is reasonable as well. I'm also considering the Chamois original (not the wrap) as it's been mentioned as well.
  24. True. Oh, how did you find out how many reactions you gave? I looked around my profile and couldn't find anything about that. Received, I see. But not given.
  25. Congrats Autoflexers!! I look forward to seeing how these work for all your varied swings and if the marketing holds true. Good luck!
