  1. I have a 6 iron through the lob wedge for 8 irons. The other clubs are mish-mash of an Callaway Epic Speed Driver (11.5), Performance Golf EZ5 5W (21 degrees), Callaway Rogue 4H (21 degrees), Performance Golf EZ7 7W (25 degrees), and an old Taylormade Raylor Hybrid (22 degrees).
  2. It looks like Calcutta Golf Balls are still at it. Their ad popped up when I went to mygolfspy.com website using the Chrome app. People need to be warned about the practices of this company. Like most deals that seem to be too good to be true are usually, this one is too good to be true. In fact, there is a penalty for assuming it is a good deal.
  3. I'll have to admit that I have cut back on my walking. I still walk on my Thursday golf league (9 holes) with a push cart, but use a riding cart for my Monday and Wednesday leagues (18 holes). I could probably walk most of the courses we play. However, there are a few courses we play that have long distances between holes and a fewer number require carts because of the distances between holes. I need to investigate some of these courses and start walking more. On a side note, I need to get a much better push cart with a few extra "bells and whistles", including an umbrella holder.

  5. For me, the best tip was to work on my alignment. First off, I agree that getting a good instructor is probably the first step but when you are considering different tips you need to consider what is going correctly or going wrong for you. I was fortunate one time to be playing a round with a former golf instructor. I wasn’t hitting the ball the best that day. I was directionally challenged. He simply asked me where I was aiming. I told him and then he told me that my alignment was very right of my desired target. He helped me get the correct alignment and the rest of my round improved significantly. Later, I worked on correct alignment on the driving range and have now improved my handicap by almost 2 strokes in less than a month by concentrating on getting the correct alignment. A month or two from now a different tip may help me correct what is not working for me. Golf - "Don't think of it as work. The whole point is just to enjoy yourself." -- Otter, Animal House
  6. After missing out on the chance to test Red Rooster golf gloves, I purchase the Red Rooster "The Boilermaker" men's golf glove. Most golf gloves I wear are large (L). However, using Red Rooster's sizing chart I selected their medium-large (ML) left hand glove. The fit is perfect and it has worked wonderfully and I look forward to doing my own testing of the glove.
  7. The bifurcation issue with golf balls will result in two handicaps for the better players, one for the ”tour spec” ball and one with the “recreational spec” ball. Or do you only have one handicap, based on tour spec balls or recreational spec balls? For example, for local tournaments that anyone with a tour spec ball handicap must continue to play with that handicap and a tour spec ball and not be allowed to play with a recreational ball spec. Do you see the complications and implications of the bifurcation of golf ball specs? Golf handicaps are for leveling the playing field and that would work, but you would have to set up the local tournament rules to make things fair. Personally, I would never have to worry about two handicaps since I will never be playing any ball but a “recreational spec” ball. Golf - "Don't think of it as work. 8. I'm looking forward to eventually being a tester. MyGolfSpy has provided me excellent input and reviews on equipment and balls and would love to give them two-cents worth of info. Michigan is not the best for testing in the winter months, but I usually spend February and March in Florida.
  9. My favorite hat by far is the Henschel Aussie Breezer hat. It is rated UPF 50+ with a 3 inch brim that provides a lot of shade.
  10. I have Golfshot Plus v 5.78 since 2014 and have thoroughly enjoyed it, especially when playing a course for the first time. It shows you your location on the hole along with distance from the center of the green. It provides you with distance to bunkers and hazards and distance to carry the bunker and hazards. You can also move the cursor to other targets to get distance to trees or layup area, for example. You can keep track of you statistics as well, greens-in-regulation, fairways-hit, sand shots, saves, etc. In 2014 when I first purchased it, the onetime price was $10.99. The map overview is from Google. I have yet to find a course that is not provided by the app. And there is no price for adding courses. My understanding that my price is a grandfathered price. There is now an annual price for using the app. For my game, it is well worth it.
  11. 1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I have been playing golf since 1969, but not on a regular basis until I joined a golf league in 1979. My handicap is currently 15.5. However, it will obviously take a dip in the spring when I start playing again after the golf layoff each winter. 2. What do you love about golf? I love being outdoors with golf along with the comradery of my fellow golfers. I love the challenges of golf 3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I first visited MyGolfSpy when reviewing drivers. That is when I discovered there was so much more than driver reviews. 4. Where are you from? What is your home course? I live in the mid-Michigan area with many good golf courses within an hour to an hour and a half drive. 5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? The best thing about golf in my area is the quality of nearby courses and the very reasonable pricing. Courses are not crowded but you will need to get reservation for the good golf courses in advance. The only bad thing about Michigan golf is that you will not be able to play in the winter. On average, most golf courses in this area of Michigan close at the beginning of November, but it depends on the forecasted weather for the area. The golf courses usually don't open in the spring until April 1 or a little later in April, again depending on the weather forecasts. Golf - "Don't think of it as work.
