  1. Thanks buddy! I was over the moon with them
  2. managed to finish work really early today and got a good round in after at woodlands golf and country club in Bristol UK. I had a great round by my standards. Got 5 pars and shot 96 overall. I recently changed to pink castle tees for my driver as i was hitting the ball too high on the face with the orange ones. Have found that my drives are going straighter now!! Here's the best ones for me today: 18th Hole: First drive went completely straight but too far forwards and landed in the drink. Took a drop by the water and managed to pummel the 3-wood 224 yards with the ball landing about 10ft from the hole. First putt took it to about 10cm from the hole and the second putt got it in. Par 5, so scored par! : You can barely even see the flag in the first picture there but the second is where the ball landed. 10th Hole: Fired the drive 285 yards over a line of trees and landed dead center on the fairway, giving me a 72 yard 75% power pitching wedge onto the green and a 2 putt for par! 16th Hole: 237 yard straight drive off the tee, thinned it with a gap wedge over the green (naturally because a good shot can never be followed by a good shot, it's the law i think!), pitching wedge chip onto the green and 1 putt for par!! Was definitely a better back 9 than the front nine. Got rained on for the first 7 holes (really wish the Galway Bay gear had turned up in time for that ) Fairways are feeling better now after all the rain we have had this winter. Looking forward to more games this summer!!
  3. As my gear is coming from the states to the UK delivery is taking a little longer. Have however just had a text from the Royal Mail that the package has reached the UK. Hopefully will be with me by the end of the week. More updates coming soon!!
  4. When I first started I used Rick Shiels' series about how to position yourself etc that he released a few years back. Found it was useful and gave me some good basic knowledge until I could afford some lessons.
  5. Managed to get a light ing 18 holes in after work with the wife caddying. Managed to get a birdie on the 8th, only lost 5 balls, and best drive was 230 yards off the tee with my cobra 3-wood!! Weather was a little wet to begin with (looking forward to when the Gallway Bay wet weather turns up).
  6. Main aim: work on the slice with the driver Sub aims: get the handicap down to a nice round 20. Only have maximum of 3 3-putts per game. Do a successful intentional flop shot in one game this year.
  7. Had a good fun scramble with a mate. We hit 19 over for the round. Got one birdie, and a couple of pars, the rest were bogies and doubles. Ground was starting to dry out a little which made gameplay much more fun!!
  8. My plan is to play rounds wet or dry and see how it holds up, and if push comes to shove a walk in the rain it'll be the first time I actively grab the clubs and zoom to the course when the heavens open
  9. Thank you all for the congratulations, please see the introduction post to learn a little about me, and what i hope to gain from this test cycle. Speak soon folks Ryan
  10. Well the want and lusting for new clubs is ever present but the bank account and the wife are always asking unwanted questions like "why do you need to change your clubs", "what's wrong with your current ones", and "are you sure you need new clubs". Apparently the answer that I'm sure this is what it will take to take 5 strokes off my game isn't an acceptable answer
  11. Intro The personal questions: What region do you play out of? I come from Chipping Sodbury, a place just outside of Bristol in the United Kingdom where rainy weather was invented in 1056AD. We have this year had our second wettest winter since records began in 1853 at a whopping total of 1247.6mm of rain across the year. The local courses have mostly been closed over winter, and the course that I marshal at (Woodlands Golf and Country Club in Bradley Stoke) has been victim to some of the boggiest conditions in the area. How long have you been golfing? I have been golfing now for a little over two years. I have found that my handicap is slowly on the way down from a horrible 40 or so over on each round to a record handicap of 23.1 (personal record anyway, nobody from the PGA has yet knocked on my door). I have found that I have used winter to do scrambles where possible, and come summertime will be moving over to stroke play/match play games with friends and playing partners. The winter golf has been a real challenge with the weather and ground conditions and I have dropped down to around a 28 handicap. What kind of golfer are you? An easy question to answer, a fairly average one. I love playing early rounds, I love a good scramble game, and I really enjoy the atmosphere on the course. I love to use gadgets and training tools to try to improve my skills, and have even found that some have translated to a better game on the course. The best training aids I have are my putting mat, my Velcro chipping screen, and my hackmotion system that I tested for My Golf Spy last year. The Golf Questions: How do you want to test this product? There are a couple of things I want to do with the wet weather gear. The website claims the jacket is proof against rain, cold weather, and all weathers. As I am a huge fan of early tee offs (just ask my playing partners), testing the temperature controlling capabilities of the coat shouldn’t be that hard. Gallway Bay also claim that the coat’s “Fabric breathes to release excess body heat and sweat” which for a gentleman who has, shall we say a certain Rubenesque figure, should be able to test with ease (code for I’m a bit of a porkchop). I also find that in the wetter weather I tend to end up chunking the ball and creating a mud spray the resembles the back end of a cow exploding. This tends to end up all over my clothes, so I will definitely be able to see how easily the Gallway Bay Renvyle Rain Jacket and Chino Rain pants wipe clean of mud spray. What are your plans for the review and comparisons? So my existing coat is a Callaway rain coat. It does a good job of keeping me dry, but I do find that I get a bit sweaty in there after a few holes. I also find that my trousers end up really muddy when playing this season. In order to stay dry I sometimes have to resort to using a set of hi-vis waterproof trousers on the course which look so far out of place it’s embarrassing. The coat I currently use is designed for golfers (obviously as it’s a Callaway one), and I look forward to seeing if there is any imposition on my swing in the Gallway Bay Renvyle Rain Jacket. Being able to move freely is really important so will probably be one of the biggest factors of how much I like the coat. What will make this product stay with you after testing? Even before receiving the item, I think that unless it performs horribly, it will likely make it to most of my golf games where the weather may be looking rough, and to be fair from how it looks in the pictures it would probably serve as a pretty good light jacket for an evening walk. As I said earlier, I live in England, we have almost nothing but rain for most of the year. Why are you excited about testing this product? I hate getting wet, and all coats I have tried to wear have left me feeling like a bag of steamed rice. I hope that the Gallway Bay gear is able to make moist weather golfing more pleasant. What do you know about the product already? I have been salivating over this wet weather gear since I saw the test posted, it has amazing reviews, it looks really comfy, and the subtle colours look really classy. What are your expectations? The website makes a few claims that I will be looking forward to testing thoroughly. Here is what the site says: · Waterproof and breathability rating of 30,000 · Fabric breathes to release excess body heat and sweat · High collar to protect from wind and rain · Soft, quiet fabric · Waterproof sealed seams · Multiple secured pockets keep your things safe and dry · Wear on or off the course The majority I have covered so far. The only things that will be left to prove are the claim that the pockets will keep your belongings safe and dry (I’ll put a couple of tissues in there and see how they hold up), and that you can wear it on or off the course (I’ll upload pictures to see if it looks as good on me as it does on the pictures). So, stay tuned folks, next post from me will be the unboxing, with some pictures of me wearing it so see how it looks on. (the orange coat is an older one, not the Callaway coat mentioned in the intro)
  12. Cheap one with stiff bristles one side, soft the other, and a groove spike. Sits on a lanyard on the side of my bag, and does the job very well. Generally use the towel for the bulk and the brush for the nitty gritty bits. Cost about a fiver off of Amazon.
  13. I normally don't need to retire them. They tend to run free into the wild.
  14. I'm looking forward to the release of Fallout on prime
  15. My dog looked sad, and there was an aggressive looking pigeon at my garden gate
