  1. This is a tough situation. I'm pretty good at ignoring it, and it usually cools off on its own, but I'm also the kind of guy that if I know the couple well, I'll say something to help ease some tension or just stir the pot up if they don't cool off after I mentioned something lol. If it's getting so bad it's getting awkward and can't ignore anymore, and your good friends with them, I'd mention something. Often times, people don't realize just how out of place their banter/bickering is, and won't stop or cool down until it's brought to light by someone outside of the immediate bickering. I've actually had success with interjecting my achievements on the course (which are actually not that great so that helps with the comedy aspect of what I'm trying to achieve) and comparing it to being better then one of the individuals bickering when it's beyond obvious it's not; or would compare it to almost being as bad as that shot that [person] shot 3 holes back when their [insert funny recap of a humorous shot, usually poking fun at the person that looks like they laugh the most at the story]. If all else fails, feel free to stir the pot more. It can make it more awkward at times if they don't pick up on you ragging on them as being a humorous/friendly interjection, but I've never had it not stop the bickering before when I just couldn't stand the noise a second longer.
  2. Are you using the Driver you use off the Tee Box? I used to run 2 drivers in my bag, one 10.5 for the Tee Box and then a 12 that I basically used as a 2w/3w option to use in the fairway and 1st cut. Now, this was partially due to not being able to afford a proper fairway wood and "making hay while the suns shining" with what I got, but also because I found that most driver heads don't lend themselves to be a good DoD option. The 12 I used had a very boat-hull like bottom head design with a low CG weighted in the bottom-center of the head that worked well for gliding along the turf to limit slamming the head into the ground and duffing the shot. However, after finally get a good used 3W, I found I had much better accuracy & similar distance using that over the 12 I would've used before on the same shot, by just adjusting where I addressed the ball in my stance and flattening the lie angle of the face on address to keep trajectory low beneath the wind, or to keep the ball from rising too quickly and hitting the tree canopies on the corner that I'm trying to cut. If you're doing it because you ain't got the club in your bag to do it well another way, then there's nothing wrong with it as long as you can do it consistently enough that the potential for bad lies & distance from the shot are less then & outweighed by the possible good lies & distance from the shot. If your "iffy" on the shot, or worried about hooking/slicing it into a worse lie, I'd say stick with a FW or your Long Iron and lay up in the middle, you'd be surprised by how often this leaves you with a similar or better potential score on the hole as opposed to the DoD shot that got you 20-30yds closer.
  3. I'd say from personal experience, it make sense: get better control of your drives, and you won't need more speed to compensate & off-set the less-controlled drives. For myself, I have plenty of Launch Angle and solid swing speed (95mph avg for driver) but my Backspin hovers right at 2850-3100RPMs and absolutely decimates my driving distance. The issues is with my swing currently, but the few times I've been able to monitor-test a Low-Spin driver and get my swing to slow down a little and drop the RPMs to the 2250-2500RPM range, I instantly gained 9-14 yd's on my drives, going from 255yd avg. to 265-270yd avg. My swing speed average for those tests went down to about 90-92mph, but I gained good distance in doing so.
  4. Ain't just TaylorMade. My new Ai Smoke Max came with a very obvious QC/QA fitment issue on the head, but when I talked to the rep he told me that it wasn't going to affect the playability of the club, but if it worsens or actually breaks to bring it in and they should replace it under warranty. Yeah, he said "Should." I asked him "Should or will?" And he honestly told me he can't answer that for me, as he doesn't know what they will or won't cover anymore. To make matters worse, already had the shaft break in the Hosel connection from me absolutely crushing a ball at the range. Don't know how, but it legitimately broke within the Hosel housing, and then split the Hosel in two as well. Luckily the place I bought it from just swapped out a new shaft for me and put extra epoxy at the Hosel adapter connection to hopefully stop it from happening again.
  5. We'd get our asses handed to us is how close it would end up being lol, but we'd atleast have a smile on our faces while it's happening.
  6. I agree with Duffer, I think sometime in Late September to October would be great, weather wise & scheduling wise. Plus, 10/26 is my birthday so I will never turn down scheduling a round on that day lol. Whenever we choose a date, if we can set a date about a Month out, I think overall that should be enough time to get a good head count and allow for everyone to check schedules and mark it on their calendars. And I'd be good with a mid-week round, might make it easier to get a good price/Tee time as well.
  7. Oh yeah, I think it'll definitely be a worth-while course to make a few trips out to through out the year. Plus, I feel like that part of the state is actually great for a natural beautiful back-drop to build a course through. The hills will provide great natural curves to snake the course through, and all the creeks & rivers in the area should be perfect to add a tough make or break opportunity right through fairways. And the pine trees out there are tall and beautiful, in my opinion, and Tee-ing between them will make a good picture-view from any Tee box. But I feel like they're going to have to do something for the summer, because it'll legitimately almost be un- playable either due to being triple-digit hot & humid, or from being drenched in the storms the hurricanes/tropical storms send up from the Gulf.
  8. I play the same Vice Pro golf balls from Sam's; choose them partly for cost and because I found that with my swing speed & style worked well their 3-pc layers (and that they had similar characteristics of the Pro V1's and other Tour style balls). And just in case you didn't want to buy the new Vice Tours yet, the 2020 model Vice Pros that Sam's sales in a 24 pack, just went on sale for $30!
  9. Wild Spring Dunes is the newest venture from the Dream Golf Resort group that owns and runs Bandon Dunes, Sand Valley, and Rodeo Dunes. Going to be located in East Texas, right by the town of Nacogdoches, this is going to be in a good spot to not have any high-end golf courses competing with it for about 100miles in any direction. And being from this part of Texas, it's close enough(-ish) to Dallas & Houston that traveling to it from out-of-state won't be too bad, but it'll be about a 2hr drive from either cities major Airport (DFW international or Houston Hobby). My only question is, what are they to going to do with it when you're not able to play this course for, atleast, 2 months of the year? This part of Texas is known for Big Pine trees, Large rolling hills, and Mosquitos the size of Hummingbirds (seriously, that's only a slight exaggeration); plus, you don't play golf in Texas during the months of July & August unless you have a pre-8:30am Tee-Time. It's already averaging 99degs at 2pm out here in this part of Texas already, and we ain't even hit the hottest part of the summer yet. Here's the link to the actual Golf Resort website if your interested in more direct info on it.
  10. I posted this in a different thread because I wasn't sure the best place for it, but after seeing the other post on the newer Vice Dripped golf balls, figured y'all might enjoy the info too: The 2020 model Vice Pro Golf balls are on a steal of a sale at Sam's Club right now; 24 balls for $30 ($1.25/ball).
  11. Ball Deal: 2020 model Vice Pro Golf balls For anyone with a Sam's Club membership that plays or is interested in trying the Vice Pro balls, here's the best deal you'll see for these, probably ever! Vice Pro 24-Pack Golf Balls for $30 ($1.25/ball) These are the 2020 models (since Vice just dropped their 2024 model Golf Balls earlier this year) but they are brand new in the packaging. It has to be Pick-Up or Delivery option to get the $30 price, otherwise it's the regular $50 price tag.
  12. I like the PGA Frisco location Idea and the suggestion of The Bandit; as others have said, selfishly the PGA Frisco is a lot closer to me so more likely to make that date if it's on a weekend, but the bandit course does look pretty cool and New Braunfels ain't that far of a drive from where I'm at in Dallas.
  13. Insulating your Garage Door definitely helps keep the garage heat down. I did mine myself and up here in Dallas the temp hit 99 outside earlier this afternoon, my garage thermostat said it was still only 84 in the garage. Besides the backwall of the garage, the 2 side walls of my garage definitely are not insulated, just brick finished on the outside.
  14. Well, decided to try the kool-aid after a year of reading many forum topics that have been posted in the MGS forum. I'm a Civil Engineer by trade, don't cast judgement on me too hard yet based solely on that, and due to that I've always been more of a critical-numbers focused person when it comes to anything I'm interested in or pursuing as a hobby. After seeing many other members posting responses and forum questions that were damn near exactly similar to what I'd put myself, figured I might just have found the best place for me to fit in on a forum without always sounding like the critical *sshole that's just focused more on actual info & not just hype'd info. I'm looking forward to jumping in on topic discussions and becoming a continual active member here though, and looking forward to some spirited discussions and hopefully expanding my knowledge & skills in the game of Golf along the way.
