  1. TaylorMade r7 SuperQuad Driver (2007). Made in America. More forgiving and accurate (tighter dispersion) than my TSR3 and as workable. The SuperQuad has a Deep face with a perfectly symmetrical compact 460cc head and slight draw bias due to a very slightly closed face. If your misses are high on the face, this club corrects well for that. Looks brilliant behind the ball. The Movable Weight Technology has 4 weight ports and are better than weight channels as there is no "whistling" sound. It can be customized for low spin, high launch, draw and fade. Tight dispersion too. With a premium shaft, it's a beast. Have tried virtually every other driver but always go back to it.
  2. Played today at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Nevada. Long and fairly difficult track. Desert golf. Played the 505 yard par five. Hit the drive 285. Hit my 3 wood very pure…high with a slight fade. It went in the hole…first albatross ever! Wow, what a fantastic feeling!
  3. Is anyone gaming the TaylorMade r7 SuperQuad Driver (2007)? I took mine out of storage after many years and was amazed at how well it plays compared to the newest drivers. I also have a Ping G425 Max and Titleist TSi3 and the r7 SuperQuad combines the best of both...although is more similar to the TSi3. More forgiving and accurate (tighter dispersion) than the TSi3 and as workable. Lighter and more compact than the Ping G425 (faster swing speed due to less weight in the head) but not as forgiving. The SuperQuad has a Deep face with a perfectly symmetrical compact 460cc head and slight draw bias due to a 2 degree slightly closed face. If your misses are high on the face, this club corrects well for that. Looks brilliant behind the ball. The Movable Weight Technology has 4 weight ports and are better than weight channels as there is no "whistling" sound. It can be customized for low spin (heavy weights forward) high launch (heavy weights back) or draw (heavy weight on heel) and fade (heavy weight on toe). Low dispersion too. With a premium shaft, it's a beast. Great classic powerful titanium sound. John Daley gamed it when he won the PGA and The Open. In your opinions, what are the best drivers ever made?
  4. 68.5% of the people polled on MGS are not in favor of the rollback vs. 14% in favor. You wouldn’t know it looking at this forum. It seems the silent majority isn’t blindly obedient to the “ruling bodies”. Not surprising as golf is an individual sport. No referees on the field of play and no time clock.
  5. 240 when I hit the persimmon right on the screws. Which wasn’t very often because drivers in those days were not very forgiving. As long as we’re being “purists”, should we roll back golf club technology too? Shorter and less forgiving drivers and irons? Roll back graphite shaft technology? What about high MOI putter heads? Just let the “experts” figure it out and follow the rules!
  6. I have switched to a baseball grip and it has significantly helped my game. I started with overlap then went to interlock. I do have small hands and as I got older there was some pain with my left thumb and right pinky finger. My hands were “fighting” each other during the swing. To mitigate the pain, I switched to a true baseball grip…where my left hand is in a fist (the thumb is off the club and instead wrapped around the index finger). The bottom right hand is conventional but with the pinky on the club. I went from struggling with a snap hook on bad shots to a power fade. This grip allows for the left hand to become more dominant due to increased grip pressure and the right hand grip pressure to be lighter. Also, I get more hinge with my hands and therefore my swing speed has increased. My swing thought is to take the club back with my chest and go as wide as possible in the backswing. Then plant my left heel to start the downswing and “go hard” through the ball. The grip took a while to get used to, but boy has it been worth it! Greater distance especially off the tee but also better contact throughout the bag. My low left duck hook is gone. And most importantly, no pain in my hands.
  7. Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower - Steve Jobs
  8. What are the differences between the 2024 Titleist Velocity ball and the prior version (2022)? I have gone to the Titleist website and the specs look the same: high-speed LSX Core NAZ+ cover spherically-tiled 350 octahedral dimple design The only difference appears to be the box design and no blue color. Can MGS please describe any differences?
  9. Best value distance ball: Titleist Velocity Best premium distance ball: ProV1x
  10. Bad idea to make the game shorter and take the fun out of hitting the occasional 300+ yard drive when you really nut it. It appears that the vast majority of golfers are against it. Who’s for it and what’s their rationale?
  11. I have a Ping G425 Max with Alta 55g CB shaft. The shaft is 45.75”. I cut my Titleist TSi3 Kuro Kage shaft down to 44.25”. I thought about cutting the Ping down but instead decided to choke down 1.5 inches. This seems to work well as it enhances the counter balance effect which in turn makes the heavy G425 Max head feel lighter and less prone to a fade.
  12. The KSig v3 is their best yet. Firm feel off driver without excessive spin (97 mph swing speed). The ProV1x is the best all around ball. The Titleist Velocity is the best pure distance ball. The KSig v3 is as good as the rest. The bright yellow is a great color…and is more visible than other yellow balls. This partially overcomes the grocery store brand logo which would be way cooler if it was branded “KSig”. Good feel on irons and chipping and putting. Better around the greens than any surlyn ball. Very high quality ball at a fantastic price.
  13. Wow! These balls are long and I like the firm feel. Great winter ball…the neon green is super visible and a very pleasing color. I wasn’t sure about the matte finish, but it does appear to have less side spin than a glossy ball. I hit drives with the Velocity and Callaway Super Soft matte green balls side-by-side on several holes. I thought I hit the SS better on both holes…the contact felt pure because of the soft feel. The Velocity felt firm and powerful, not “pure”. In both cases the Velocity went 10-20 yards further. The Callaway matte finish has a soft rubbery feel. The Velocity matte green felt denser and more premium. The Velocity was long and straight with fairways and long irons. Across the bag it had a high effortless launch. With the shorter irons and lob shots it dropped and stopped. Chipping was Ok, definitely more feel with a premium urethane ball…but not bad at all. It felt soft but fast off the putter. I would say it was noticeably longer than the ProV1, but lacks the premium feel when chipping. Had one of my best ball striking days with these. I’m a 12 handicap and shot a 78 with this ball on a difficult course. I’ll be gaming this.
