(Yesterday) I spent some time yesterday working on the mechanics of a low-flighted, spinning pitch shot, as I was disappointed in a round the other day with how much the ball was rolling out. I did a little work with an alignment stick extending the shaft of my lob wedge, doing some "ribcracker" practice swings, then hit around 35 balls from a mat on my patio at a Home Depot bucket 15 yards away. Not good. I had probably half those head straight into the grass 3 yards away at a 45 degree angle from the target. I realized I need to change my weight distribution a little (keep it on the lead leg a little more) as I think I was blading the ball with an open club face. I then hit another round of 35, all of which landed near the target this time. There was still too much variability in the flight height, so will probably keep at this for a bit.

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?
Started playing golf about 25 years ago, but for a long while was only playing about a round a year. I'm getting out a bit more regularly the last couple years now that my wife and kids are playing. I'm right about a bogey golfer. What do you love about golf?
Ah, so much. The challenge of it. The constant learning. The research. Honestly, enjoy being on the range or practice green almost as much as playing a round. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?
Love the data-driven approach and that I can find quality research on most everything in the golf space. I do not know any other Spies. Where are you from? What is your home course?
Northwest suburbs of Chicago. I consider Palatine Hills my home course. It's a municipal, but has hosted a couple USGA qualifiers over the last couple years, so not bad. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?
Chicago area has a ton of courses which is great! Worst thing I'd say is the weather, especially in the spring. What do you do for a living?
I manage a team of software engineers. How’d you pick your user name?
Used to play a video game with some buddies, Rocket League, and that was my gamer tag.

I'm 5'9" and did a PXG fitting last year where they fit me into a 44" driver shaft. I always felt a little like the driver was swinging me, but that one inch change has made a huge difference and I'm actually a lot longer now (and more accurate). I think that little extra control of the club has synchronized the rest of the movement sequence to be a lot more optimal. Highly recommend going shorter, though I've been fearful of making any alteration like this on my own.

Welcome @Overspark07 from another Rocket League player / tech worker in the west burbs off 88! I'll have to give Palatine Hills a look next time I have an excuse to go play up north.

Such a fun topic! For a long time, I was only playing once a year or so, so I've been playing the same set of clubs for 20 years and was never willing to make the investment for how little I was playing. Still tough to pull the trigger on a wholesale change, so I've been accumulating piece by piece.
I had been doing some research on a new putter and was passing a Dick's Sporting Goods, so I stopped in to get a feel for different shapes. As I was browsing, I noticed the backside of the putting green had some pre-owned. One putter was not like the rest, a L.A.B. Mezz.1. I thought it was the craziest looking thing, but liked the way it felt. I didn't actually know anything about LAB at the time, so I passed. Came home and did a little discovery about what was up with this crazy putter. At the very least, I saw there was a decent resell opportunity on eBay so decided to head back a couple days later doubting it was still going to be there. Sure enough, still there! $210 out the door. Took it out to the practice green and fell in love!
