  1. I hate CPO. If it's CPO either I'm walking or if walking is not allowed, I'm not playing! I am the King of putting my tee shot on the opposite side of the fairway from the cart path!! I mean every hole! We have cart paths on every hole that start before you get to the green, go around the green to the next tee box, and ends after the forward tee box. No cart paths from tee to green!
  2. Not today after yesterday's cold play. Temp in the high 30's and the wind is starting to pick up again. Maybe after lunch, I might head to the course for some short game practice... if it warms up a little more.
  3. It's been mild this month. It stays a little green all winter; doesn't go totally dormant like your Bermuda. I'll shoot a picture of it after Jan 1 if we get a sunny day. That could be in February because we typically get inversions where it's gray all day with a high of 31 and a low of 28. Usually when the sun breaks through, the temp drops into the teens.
  4. There are just so many things I want to say right now, but I'm not
  5. My group has a Wednesday walking tee time around 10:30 each week. I woke up this morning and it had rained overnight; temp was 36*. When it started to get light out, the clouds parted and the sun came out. Great!! Just like in Camelot... it only rains at night. I headed to the course at 9:30 and the temp was 41*. OK, I can deal with that; it's still sunny. While I was warming up, a breeze came up. Uh oh!! When we teed off, it was 44* and the wind was blowing 10-15mph. When we got to the par 3 #4 tee box, which is the highest point on the course, it was more like 15-25mph. Brrr!!! Here is a pic from the tee box: This shot was into the wind and I added 2 clubs, hit the green and made par. So, I was even par through the first 4 holes. When we got to the #5 tee, the sun disappeared, and so did my game. I bogeyed the next 4 holes, but made a birdie on the par 5 #9 to finish at +3. We decided that we were beat up enough for the day and quit. We played that nine holes and never saw another player. I guess everyone else had more sense than we did.
  6. We didn't even bring sticks on that trip! Rained every day. We will be back at Christmas, and if we have some time, we might head down to your Top 100 fitter store! I doubt we will be playing there anytime between now and spring. We are headed to Phoenix for a couple of weeks in Feb.
  7. Years ago at my old golf course there was an old guy (probably about as old as I am now!) who was named Ken and his last name began with an "A"; my last name begins with a "B". So every time I walked into the clubhouse, the Pro would yell "Kenny B" (just like "Norm" on Cheers!). I heard it so much that when I joined here, it just seemed appropriate.
  8. Absolutely!! The last few years before the surgery, my left knee hurt so much that it was hard to get to my lead side on the follow-through. My GHIN had risen to 14 in the summer before surgery. It took me a year after surgery to get down to 10, and this year I made it to the lowest I have ever been... 7.9 before the colder weather set in. I should have done the surgery years ago!!
  9. Happy Birthday, you young whippersnapper!! I tore up my left knee playing volleyball in 1971 and had cartilage taken out the old fashion way. My knee ached for years. Two months before I had the TKR on my left knee, I tore the meniscus in my right knee, so they scoped it. It had to be healed before they would do the TKR. The Doc said after the replacement that if I had waited another year to have the surgery, he would have had to do a bone graft. BTW, the internet takes 10 years off your age because only young people understand this new fangled technology!
  10. It's starting to get cold up here in the desert NW. Next week the low is supposed to get down to 22*; highs in the 30's. I needed a pair of cold weather boots because golf shoes are just to cold for my feet. Years ago I had a nice pair of Dunham boots that had an aggressive sole that provided decent traction for golf in wet conditions. Last year I looked for a new pair and I never found any that had a sole that provided what I thought would be acceptable for the golf course. On my trip to Oregon over Thanksgiving I found a pair of Merrell Moab FST Ice-Thermo on sale plus no sales tax!! They have a Vibram sole engineered and designed to perform on wet ice. We will see. They are very comfortable and lightweight. I will be giving them a try when I walk 18 with the guys at the club tomorrow.
  11. I had my knee replaced 3 years ago on Nov 7. My wife took very good care of me. The next year in Nov, she had her knee replaced so I had to do the same for her; cooking, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping. I did OK except for the laundry. I messed up a couple of times, so she doesn't make me do that anymore! I should have messed up on all the other stuff too. Dang!
  12. 40/41 for 81 with three 3-putts on the back nine! Just awful! Cold and windy and I don't putt well when my hands get cold, well except for that 30-foot double braking birdie on #9.
  13. The Civil War - Oregon vs. Oregon State They have been playing the Civil War since 1894, and OSU hadn't beaten UO since 2007, but today the Beavs win 34-24. Finally! Sorry MmmmmmBuddy.
  14. A hint of honey with a kick from Ghost Peppers! Too much excitement for me; still "resting" from all the food! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  15. When I played with Foz and Rev last February, Foz introduced me to Wild Turkey Honey Sting. It was perfect for that cold Florida golf day. I came home and checked the stores; no one had it, so I had a store order 2 bottles. When the weather warmed up here, I put it away. I totally forgot that I still had a bottle in the cabinet. Now is a good time to break it out!
  16. On one of my 31 trips to Russia, I spent the night at a very nice hotel by Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow waiting to fly to Siberia. When I checked in, there were maybe 20 gorgeous Russian women; tall, blonde, wearing what looked like designer dresses. I thought there was a fashion show at the hotel, and these were runway models. One of the more experienced travelers that I was with said, "Looks like we will be getting a knock on our door tonight." I was such a novice!
  17. I've given up on TV. 10,000 channels and nothing on I want to watch unless there is a tournament. My wife is watching something; I'm surfing Netflix, pausing to check out the latest MGS forum posts.
  18. Since it was rather chilly and foggy today, I went to the practice area. No one was there. Spent 30 minutes pitching balls to the practice green from 25-50 yards with LW, SW, and PW watching the landing and run-out. Then I moved to the range and hit maybe 60 balls in about 30 minutes. After the range I moved to the chipping/putting area and spent 30 minutes on each. 2 hours! I saw a couple of groups make the turn, but nobody came to the practice area in those 2 hours. I have found that I have a tendency to position the ball a little too far forward in my stance, probably from where I think the ball for the driver should be played. When I move the ball back a couple of inches, I make a better strike on the ball and my straight ball has a draw tendency, whereas with the ball too far forward my straight ball has a cut tendency. What a difference those couple of inches make! I need to spend more time getting used to the new position.
  19. Can't see anything past a 7i distance... FOGGY!
  20. Agree with @MattF. Some mats are better than others. I don't use the range much anyway and they put mats out on the grass for the winter, but I can tell when I mishit a ball. Yeah, it still flies decent off a mat, but I know a good strike from a not-so-good one. Swinging on mats is better than not swinging at all, IMHO.
  21. Not anymore! Costco is sold out again. No timetable for restocking.
  22. Well, the season is winding down and I never got around to taking that bunker lesson. Even though golf is slowing up here, the pro is very busy teaching young kids who are gearing up for the spring season. Last week I asked him if he had time to fit in bunker work with me, and today we did it. He thought it would be a good idea to include me in his class with the kids because he thought they could use some bunker and short game work too. These kids ranged in age from 7 to 14 and are they good! I held my own with them in the green-side bunkers, but my problem is fairway bunkers. My old course didn't have any, but my new course has several and I can run up a big number in a hurry if I get in them. Most of the kids did OK out of those bunkers; a few sucked as bad as I did. However, after the pro fixed my ball position and told me to play a cut shot, I was able to rip off several good shots in a row with my 5H. The lip wasn't an issue, but I will need to head back out on the course this week for some more practice with mid-irons just to see if the lesson is sticking with me. If I had done this in the spring, my scores this year would have been a little lower.
  23. Great story! Earl looks just like Jim; one of the guys I play with during the week. He just turned 83 and is a very good stick. I hope I can play that well when I get to be his age!!
