  1. Just got back from the practice green and an eyes closed on every putt session. Made it competitive with my beloved so that the putts would be meaningful. Of course, that's not the same as putting while playing, but it's a start. Went well. I'll keep doing that during this upcoming week and then give it a shot when I play next. I didn't have many miss hits, so I'll have to see if that remains the case on the course. Yes, I want to see if I can have results putting that way in the course . Thanks to the Spies who started and participated in the heads up thread! I suspect it'll contribute to better putting for me .
  2. Very similar insights to what i shared with my students. Will the brsin be more efficiently trained if you alternate? How about doing several closed? I might try 1/2 hour of eyes closed only to see how that goes. May take me that long or longer to just focus on making a good stroke.
  3. I'm going to try the various variations to see if any feel good and produce results right off the bat. From there I'll pick one and work on that for a while. If after some practice sessions and play with a method, I'll stay with it if it works, or move onto another. Of course me being me, I'm going to tinker with whatever method to best suit me. I appreciate all feedback.
  4. Ah yes, I think I remember when Spieth was doing that. The commentators were all over it. Haven't seen Finau do it, but if he could find some consistency in his putting, wow!
  5. I think I'm going to try the heads up method to see if that helps. If I weren't doing better in practice than while playing I would think that I had a physical issue with depth perception or something. I've worked (not nearly enough yet) on keeping a steady tempo, but that doesn't seem to stop me from hitting it too hard most of the time, then too soft. When I get into a play situation, it's like I forget what I've been doing on the practice green and every putt looks like a foreign animal. Slight exaggeration but only slight. It's a head thing that I'll have to work out or accept being mediocre to bad on the greens. Hopefully I'll continue to enjoy the game even as a mediocre putter. Embrace my mediocrity
  6. The free throw analogy doesn't work for me because you already have the ball in your hands. In golf there is a separation among you, the ball, the target. Free throws there is only separation between you and the target. I tried putting with my eyes closed for a few short ones on the practice green some days ago. It seemed to work ok, and if I can do that the heads up method might be a good way to go for me. My doubt resides in my own ability to strike the ball the way I want to if I'm not looking at it. That said, I don't do so well even while looking at it, so might as well keep working on eyes closed or heads up. Might actually help my stroke!
  7. "Experienced golfers, who normally putt using a NT strategy, were found to putt significantly better—both in terms of make percentage and miss distance—while employing a FT visual focus strategy on moderately sloped putts inside 14 ft." I read the article and found it pretty incredible that there''s research out there suggesting the FT method improves putting, but I don't recall seeing a single professional or anyone else for that matter using this technique. Anyone know of someone who uses it? Thanks for the tip @cnosil Looks like I have something else to try!
  8. Any tips on bringing your putting green game to the gaming green? That seems to be my issue right now. I'm getting the speed right most of the time on the pratice green, but not so much when I'm playing.
  9. I'm still balling my Cleveland RTG 52°. It has become my go-to around the greens. Tended to pull it on full shots so had the lie angle adjusted and now I have a smile on my face.
  10. We loved the variety of places to eat and we found a little gem that's nothing more than a dive but the food was awesome. Habibi's Cafe & Pizzeria on Waccamaw. George's Seafood Buffet was awesome as well.
  11. Got mine off Temu as well and after 6 weeks, one ripped but still have several others. Since I'm rotating them in and out when they get wet, I can't really say how long each is holding up. I don't think that much about it at $6 per. I'll start paying a bit more attention and report back when I have something useful to report.
  12. One ripped after just a few rounds, but the others are holding up under the pressure thus far. Don't mind if they don't last too long because of the price. If I pay more than $20 for a glove, I'll want it to last more than a few rounds.
  13. Agreed. But my now renewed once per year trip for a week to the World Am doesn't allow for me to fully sample the tracks. Stephanie (we celebrate our anniversary during the World Am) suggested we do a three-week stay next year. I'm all for it because I know there are great tracks that I'd like to play. I'm guessing @BIG STU will be of help with choosing tracks if we do make it for that extended trip next year.
  14. Dude! You must be my brother from another mother. I'm the only player I've come across that wears a wrist band on the course. Of course I'm used to them from tennis and I can't imagine playing in this weather without them. i used to game those Wilsons from Wally World too until I found a better deal with these Finger Tens . I'm flirting with incorporating something else no one else wore on the tennis court. Actually had some made for me to wear in tennis tournaments and while teaching. Probably won't fly on a golf course, but I just might test that hypothesis out. I've also been thinking about wearing a towel tucked into my shorts like I used to do in tennis as well. Slippery hands don't work well in either game.
