  1. I enjoy an after work 9. 18 on weekends or if I take the afternoon off.
  2. As a general rule, 7 wood will launch higher. And fly a little longer. It’s really a situation where you need to hit both and see what works best. Long hitters on the tour use both, some even carry 9 woods.
  3. T150 44,48 SM9 52, 58 i like this combo, I like a bigger gap between my Vokeys, it gives a more distinct trajectory variation on short game shots. When using a 54 I often found it was too similar to the 58. If I have a full swing distance gap I just open the 52 a bit and it works like a 54. It’s all personal preference, with my old set I went 45, 50, 58 for awhile but that gap was a little much at times.
  4. Thick rough is the #1 cause of slow play from my experience, especially with decent players. Constantly searching for balls that hopped 2 yards into the rough just takes the fun out of the game. That being said, weather conditions in the spring can make it inevitable in many places. Thickness is often worse than height.
  5. I’m very confused. I currently carry a 5 iron and 5 hybrid. Not sure what the actual gapping is, but they are 2 different clubs for 2 different situations. If I had to pull one club out of the bag though, it would probably be the 5 iron
  6. Fashions change. Compare how Ben Hogan dressed to how Johnny Miller dressed 20 years later. Clubs need to keep up with the times within parameters that they set. IMO casual golf shoes are modern style, they should be allowed. Public courses should have looser rules, but keep your shirt on. I don’t mind Tshirt at a public course, but I understand why clubs require a collared shirt. Tucking in the said shirt is where I see a lot of private clubs draw the line. I’m fine with that at a private club, at a muni, who cares? I always wear a collared polo, except when I go to a public range on Saturday after mowing the lawn, I’m probably wearing a T Shirt.
  7. IMO swing weight can be important after you have picked all the appropriate components/ specs, and assuming the club heads all are weighted appropriately. More to verify you have consistency through the set. Shaft weight and flex are important. Too me the shaft weight might be the most important.
  8. This is a good point, but middle isn’t always safest. Sometimes the good miss is short left or right, for example, especially if the bunker is in the middle of the green and you are 180 out, and the green is angled. If I’m hitting it well and I have a short iron I will probably fire right at it. It’s really an exercise in course management, which the average player is usually really bad at, from my experience.
  9. My Odyssey putter. Probably about 10 years now. I’ve been playing 40 years now and have really only used 4 putters for any length of time. 3 for most of that time. I don’t consider myself a great putter, but I’m pretty consistent, and switching putters is a learning curve I don’t want to deal with often. I honestly don’t see myself switching anytime soon.
  10. Sounds like a solid plan. I myself have a 44, 48 with the T150’s then go 52.12 and the 58.08 M grind. I messed with a 54 but found it didn’t provide a big enough trajectory difference, especially with the short game from the 58, so the 6 degree gap there works great for me.
  11. I was an early adopter getting the OG Heavenwood back in the late 90’s. I tried hybrids for a while but always went back to the 7 wood. Try a 9 wood if you don’t get along with your 4 hybrid. From my experience if you are someone who really picks the ball woods are better than hybrids, and if you SS isn’t 110mph you have no business hitting anything longer than a modern 5 iron. I currently use the G410 7 wood and 9 wood.
  12. I’ve used a heat gun on graphite. Just don’t overdo it. Definitely not a blow torch on graphite. Asking for trouble there for sure. I have used a torch on steel, no issues. Again just don’t over do it.
  13. It is the worst part. No doubt. The question is would you rather do it yourself or pay someone else to do it? Personally I don’t mind it that much, it’s usually a good winter project, or a one off new club. If you are careful you can reuse the old tape if it’s not too old.
  14. I found that bounce affects your gaps as well. I had Vokey 54.14 and 58.08. Only hit the 54 about 5 yards longer. Yes I had the lofts checked. I was creating more spin with the higher bounce. Went to 52.12 and 58.08 and it’s perfect. Don’t get caught up in having perfect static lofts. As I stated earlier short game performance is job one, then sort out the actual distance gaps. YMMV.
