  1. We are born, we learn to play golf, and then we live happily ever after.
  2. Weekend morning indeed! Slower and less rushed when nothing is pressing. Good Saturday morning to everyone tea takes the place of coffee when not heading out the door to something, orange pekoe English Breakfast blend. Jobs are already filling in, vacuuming, son coming in from RIT to go to Buffalo Sabres Hockey with his grandfather downtown noonish, my own day ramping up in afternoon for the first of 6 consecutive Saturday afternoons, PGA HOPE golf session at Wildwood CC using their indoor simulators. I've stayed active with the Western NY PGA HOPE program since my first session in 2018. Much more going on with it for 2023 that will be shared in future posts. Time to finish this one, son is on his way and must be done with jobs before he arrives.
  3. Friday morning best wishes to everyone. Coffee in the Corkcicle mug that keeps it hot for longer than it takes to get the last drop. Cereal was in the kitchen extension watching the windstorm moving past and with temps above freezing nothing really to see at all, the eaves lights making the backyard glow before dawn. Today is go-time for payroll, the end of the 2-week timecard period for the agency. Logged on early to get systems online, pull reports to see if anything could be a barn burner, make sure no employees HR actions bumped them into the default Time&Leave group and put back those that did to enable timekeepers heavy workload on Timecard Friday. Reach out to the team to establish a positive working climate so they know support is one click away. Monitor and assist timekeepers and supervisors while nursing this morning's brew Wegmans Breakfast Blend medium roast. Wife on her way to work, daughter about to leave for work, Corgis taking up their positions to slumber the morning away. On we go, with MGS on my personal computer to the side which helps keep mind sharp in slower moments during workday.
  4. This came up in my email today, love the fresh approach and conversation. Keeping it real, keeping it on my level and same with everyone I golf with. And BTW this was reminiscent of the Mid-Atlantic meetup in August 2022 at Queenstown Harbor GC with a dozen MGSpies around the firepit behind Chester Cottage. Feels like being on the other side of the pit from the camera POV and listening to the conversation, just missing the chill from behind with the Chesapeake and Chester River behind us.
  5. Was that the night when the Wind Chill on Mt Washington dropped to -118?
  6. Morning is routine, raining but I never mind precipitation that moves itself from where it falls. Listening to the falling water pouring from the foundation drains into the sump thinking there might be a way to capture that energy... https://spaceweather.com/ has been reporting for the last few months how Sun's activity is increasing at rate advanced for Sunspot Cycle 25 compared to 24 or any other since records began in 1755. It seems logical that the local star putting out extra energy would cause one of it's planets to have corresponding changes to the climate and weather. See what a MS Ed Geosciences can do for interpreting the world around us? Not so much for the flight path of a golf ball however.
  7. It's going to be great when these winnings are paid out! They will be paid out won't they?
  8. My favorite mornings at sunrise are too many to count but notables include sunrise from - rooftop sentry duty in the city of Kirkuk, Iraq - top of Cadillac Mountain, Mount Desert Island, Maine which is the first continental US point of land the sun touches each morning - from the front porch of the Chester Cottage at Queenstown Harbor GC, Maryland
  9. Mornings are my go time, have been since those loving Drill Sergeants chearfully woke us gently with garbage can lids banging the can. It was early 1980s and training was shaped by Vietnam War doctrine of up before dawn to repel the morning attack, our before dawn was 3:30am which also had us doing physical training in the cool of the midwestern summer weather of Missouri. So 5:00am is like sleeping in right? Little extra time built in so the little bit that is afforded to getting brain in gear is before downstairs to put coffee on, cereal in the bowl, [work] computers on and connected, garbage rolled out today because it is Wednesday, Corgis brought in after their outside after wife gave them breakfast with a carrot snack to help them ignore edible things outside... To the basement telework 'office' [photo in yesterday's post] computers logged in to be online by 6:30 - regular programs booted to be fully functional sooner than later - this morning the ancient primary finance system program is on its 8th attempt to boot already... it's 6:50am. Yeah, finally it connected and the command prompt (it is that old) window is ready for text only inputs to pull the overnight reports that drives the first part of the work day. Envious of those with flagsticks in their sight in the morning, living vicariously through your posts so keep those coming Weekends are totally different, come on weekend
  10. How far the thread has gone since reading it just after it posted! My workday in a nutshell, drought to flood in moments and today started in flood. Routine is up at 5am and sometimes it is the slowest part of the day catching up with Weather app and then what posted to FB since yesterday. Can't stand stubble so shave is a must and over the top takes twice as long but it stays neat that way and doesn't require a comb. Mr. Coffee always makes my 6cups that goes into the thermos and covered mug that lasts until lunchtime then computers turned on and running to be in full ops by 6:30. It is all telework since pandemic started 3 years ago and at Christmas the sprinklers in the Federal Building somehow tripped and the water damage is still being repaired with us back on max telework. Looking forward to 3pm when work ends to get groceries before heading to PGA HOPE indoor golf at Golf Dojo 12 miles away to hang out with Veteran friends for a couple hours, oh and swing clubs on the simulators for that 'what the heck was that' golf that in my experience doesn't translate to my outdoor golf very well. Just fed the corgis and myself lunch and back to work for the afternoon. [Yes that is a golf ball and no you are not going to find Waldo]
  11. Have the courses marked as Favorites in my SwingU app, got some studying to do for prep work. Never know what watery delights await yellow balls. [hehe didn't draw attention to @Yellow Ball this time] [oops]
  12. I came off my last active duty orders at retirement with a calf muscle injury and went to the physical therapy guys at VA and they explained how the scar tissue was like Rice Krispies in there. They used an IR device to heat up the insides to the bone and rolled it all out with what really was a rolling pin - awesome practice for pain tolerance. That and how to stretch things on the steps and Voila! no more problems with calf muscles, walking, running [but not too much of that with the older muscles don't you know]. Sure beat the 300mg Ibuprofen the active duty medical gave with no physical therapy.
  13. Just think of it, MyGolfSpey Bay Links and Country Club! Would have to be Mid-Atlantic region of course
  14. 6:15 this morning we had a sudden explosive sound that shook the house and the sound lasted 10-15 seconds. The shockwave was so sudden it was not noticed because of the sudden intensity of the atmospheric phenomenon known as a Skyquake from the compression response of the still cold air over the surface that only had to lift or drop, vibrate up and down fractions of an inch. I ran out the front door and heard the reverberation die off to the SSE. Closest thing I have experienced to the roadside blast in Iraq 18 years 3 months 12 days ago.
  15. My clubs would have a non-stock headcover on them as soon as I found one that has meaning associated with it regardless of club type. Stock headcovers of brand type are easily replaced in my bag as I don't care to extend free advertising for any company when I had to pay for the thing that is garishly branded. That said, if a company has a promotional event or extends ambassadorship or special designation where something is supplied, then that would be a different matter to consider, but has not happened yet for just about anything. Except MGS testing opportunities and those brands are something I promote thank you very much! Otherwise the purchased branded items are easily passed along to someone with a naked club
  16. Enjoying it while it lasts! Anyone who played the pickem tournament in 2022 must remember my solid lock on last place out of, what was it, 55 MGSpies? And the next last wasn't even close Actually using a similar strategy for picking last year... I'm as stunned as everyone we still have a long way to go
  17. Not all the headcovers but the ones that are currently "in the bag" except the (smaller) putter headcover that has been in retirement since L.A.B. DF2.1 arrived. The Dormie & of the Stick & Hack Club had a year ride in the putter well when it was a sale item and I got one of my fabulous discounts where that mallet cover, jacket, and mug was the regular price of the cover alone. The L.A.B. Cover was a must have as we testers were encouraged to order "whatever you want" and I'm glad I did order it because I have not seen another mallet cover that would adequately do the job, the Dormie cover about an inch too small in all 3 dimensions. Driver / hybrids / ball retriever (yes it's disguised!) covers were all gifted from participation in the PGA HOPE program, one at a time. The American Flag headcovers are regularly presented to participants at some point in a 6 or 8 session class. I have not missed one since 2018 with the Western NY PGA Section that is starting it's 11 year of the HOPE program. The PGA HOPE #1 headcover was given to me last month by the newest Veteran PGA HOPE Ambassador. In my photo my golf bag moves from where it is here in my garage to the vehicle when there is something golf to go to, otherwise it is here with all the golf gear that will be in my vehicle when the season starts and remain in the vehicle until the season ends. COME ON SEASON!!! Indoor golf is currently at Golf Dojo on Tuesday nights in Williamsville NY and next Saturday in the Rochester begins 6 weeks at Wildwood CC in Rush NY, both using simulators with PGA Pros as guides on the sides making the sessions all about Veterans getting together with golf as the reason. [Shameless plug] If you are Veteran and interested, contact your local PGA Headquarters and find out if they have a HOPE program and inquire about their scheduled events.
  18. There is truth to that, we are enjoying a balmy 2*F this morning which is expected this time of here in these here parts. Yeah I complain about it but only because [A] natural gas utility bill is double any other season of the year and [B] the body used hard and put away worn gets muscle and joint aches when it gets down to single digit still air or wind chill (or sitting too long in a room below (69*F) Summer in the PG region inland required Nomex gloves to touch anything metal including personal weapons. The only skin exposed to air was chin in middle of the chinstrap, nose and cheeks above chinstrap and below goggles, maybe 4 square inches total, everything else protected by heavy camouflage uniform, heavy desert boots, Kevlar helmet and 60 lbs of body armor and ordinance. Daytime highs in unbroken sunshine were up there but vehicle air conditioning could bring it down 20*F ambient and vent temps were only about 95 that could be directed up an ungloved sleeve - refreshing! Agreed, can't be a wimp about both ends of the scale.
  19. Have a banner day anyway, it is golf in 2023!
  20. That's right, just stick your foot out. It's $100 x 8 (+ a little bit more) I know the struggle - @Tom the Golf Nut is to blame for me working it out, hope you can too
  21. Well that didn't take long LOL and how could we ever forget! Wait wasn't it what happens at Queens Harbor stays at... never mind
  22. Excited yes but much to do before June and "The Event!" Currently indoor sessions of PGA HOPE locally Tuesday nights. Beginning weekend after next PGA HOPE in Rochester area Saturday afternoons at Wildwood CC for 6 weeks. April hopefully has an early start locally to outdoor golf. May is the PGA HOPE Secretary's Cup and the PGA Championship at Oak Hill CC I'm a volunteer as a Standard Carrier, not swinging clubs but should be a great opportunity. Also the WNY PGA HOPE session in May and June is at Niagara Frontier GC for 6 weeks. So yes not antsy but excited!
  23. I don't know what I just read @Berg Ryman but maybe a hard hat and flack vest if the group playing behind, to the side, heck even in front is playing a yellow ball.
  24. Duplicate post in about 4 renditions, something is not right - removed all the extras. Actual post is the next one - carry on your rambling scrolling...
