Golf Courses You Wished You'd Played

I'm sure we all have a list; Golf Courses you wished you'd played. I've been on a number of vacations over the last 15 years and weather it was time constraints or simply no clubs there's a bunch of courses I want to some day go back too. These may no be top 100's or widely raved about venues, but more so ones that caught my eye and I really wish I played.

So here's my starter list, I will continue to add to this thread as I think of more or encounter more and I hope you all share yours.

Let's try to keep a format of Name, URL, description and a photo. Hopefully we can grow this list :)

Gearhart Golf Links - Gearhart, Oregon

http://www.gearhartgolflinks.com/

Close to the sea with those windswept pines, a links style course that reminds me of an old US Open venue. They've recently restored the 122 year old Gem to its true Links identity by removing select trees and expanding the view corridors. Clubhouse was old school uber pimp.

BANDON CROSSINGS - Bandon Oregon

http://www.bandoncrossings.com/

Guess who it's right down the street from? This is the forgotten course in Bandon thanks to that other famous resort. This ones cut through pines and roughed in - very beautiful. We stopped here on a road trip to stretch our legs and hit balls after I rolled the ATV on my head. So wished we'd played.

Tight little city public with cool looking small green complexes and that Northern California look on the cheap.

PHEASANT GLEN - PARKSVILLE CANADA

http://www.pheasantglen.com/

Cut through the old forest of Vancouver Island and mountain backdrops it just looks like a course you'd wanna play.

Gallagher's Canyon Golf & Country Club - Kelowna, BC Canada

http://www.golfbc.com/courses/gallaghers_canyon

Cut out of the desert pine terrain of BC interior it's been on my list since I was a kid, our last trip to Kelowna we at least had lunch on the patio. The cool thing is the first hole you tee off on top of the proshop.

My wife and I played Gearhart Golf Links last March.  They have a lot of tournaments, some on a Friday each month, and were were in Seaside, OR about 4 miles from Gearhart taking in the lovely Oregon coast.  So we signed up for the tournament, "Mcmenamins Scramble - Nobody here is from Ireland" just after St. Patrick's Day.  We had to confess though, that my wife is Irish.

We had never played the course before, and the other two players that we were paired with bailed on us (probably didn't want to play with a girl), so they put us with an 82 year old guy that was visiting his wife's family; he had never played the course either!  Since we only had three, we got to play an extra ball per shot that we rotated.  We shot 67 which was 2 shots under our average age, and were nowhere near last.  Had a great time.  The pub in the hotel here has amazing beer/ale and cider on tap.  Mcmenamins is a chain in Oregon and has their own brewery.

I am considering going back to play in the "Herb Tarlek Day - The Ugliest Affair on the Coast next April.

As for your other selections, I would love to play all of the courses at Bandon and the Ocean Dunes course.  We played Bandon Dunes in March 2009; it rained all night long until about 30 minutes before tee time.  It was the first time I had ever hired a caddie.  Nice experience; expensive, but nice.

So you're saying Nidine and I need to make a road trip down next April?

Not if you have any of the bottom row Loudmouth collection!  But it might be a winner for Herb Tarlek Day.

I'd go back just for the Irish stout they had on tap and the pear cider on tap was my wife's favorite.

Weather might be iffy, but sounds like fun.  The Herb Tarlek Day tournament is Friday, April 17.  We have a trip to Eagle Crest in Bend/Redmond, OR on April 26-May 1, so that's pretty close. It would be up to my wife's schedule, since she has to run a business.
