  1. Nice to see other retrievers here as well! Here is mine, turning today 7 years.
  2. I started golfing just a year ago and finished the season with handicap being 26.1. Since the end of the season, lot of winter training has been ongoing in simulator. I think that my swing and consistency has improved a lot and the goals for the next season are something as follows: Break 90: I would expect this happen already in early this summer, current confidence for this is high Lower my handicap to 20. That number is my minimum requirement but would like to see it going down all the way around 15. Improve putting. I know that last summer, this was my biggest weakness / area of improvement in golf. 3-putts were too familiar for me and I want to improve a lot on this. I will spend more time around the practice greens this summer My local golf course opened a back-9 already last week and I was happy to start season there. I played 44 (-6) so that is already promising very good for becoming season.
  3. Was in driver fitting yesterday. We actually had one session with fitter earlier but we couldn't find a combination that would work for me. This time we found something and I pulled the trigger. I will be getting AI Smoke Max head with Tour AD CQ 6X shaft. I don't know if it is my current swing but or something else but I really noticed how big impact the shaft has. With some other shafts it felt like whole different club. Current club has been working otherwise quite good but I was willing to get a bit higher trajectory and finding more fairways. I really believe that this one ticks the boxes
  4. Reserved a time for driver fitting for Saturday. I'm really excited to see if I could get the dispersion a bit tighter with newer driver and better fitting shaft. I'm planning to test at least Qi10, AI Smoke and Darkspeed drivers. The place has also PXG available so why not giving a try for it as well. I have never tested any club from that brand but I go there open minded.
  5. I play normally with Bliz Fusion sunglasses. Originally they are probably meant for cross-country skiing but are working really well also on the golf course. The lense is rather wide and the frame of the sunglasses is not in your vision. Also optics are good enough. Compared to many other brands (Oakley etc.) also the price is really consumer-friendly
  6. There was a golf expo where I tested new drivers. For me, following drivers earned their place in top3: Qi10 AI Smoke Darkspeed I should get a fitting at some point but with just couple of shots Qi10 as 10.5 degrees with Kai'li blue 60 X shaft was just
  7. Yesterday it was not about how did I play, but I played! In Finland it is not possible normally this time of the year but the local club set up a course for the weekend. The snow was strong enough to carry a person so they opened the snow course for people (and it was free!). Weather was excellent and it was so nice to see the ball flight in real instead of simulator. It was super fun except the game around the greens was super difficult. Snow was not damped so putting and chipping was pure guess work. Spring is coming and hopefully in two months the first courses are open winter_golf.mp4
  8. Had nice one hour Trackman session. Solid 76 on PGA West Stadium. Had some short time to work on my drive after the round and there was some promising signs that for the next season, I could hit some bombs! This one was just a hair under 300 yards (meters in the display)
  9. One more vote for Cobra here! I have Aerojet 5w and I love it! I think that now as the darkspeed is released, you could get one with rather fair price.
  10. Do any of you folks have Takomo 101U? Any recommendations or comparison to Ping Crossover / Titleist U505 / Cobra King Tec Utility etc. The price looks very attractive and the normal irons have been getting really good feedback
  11. Good morning all! Still cold as f*** and snow everywhere in Finland so today it will be a great day for golf simulator!
  12. For me, it is a combination of all things. I would say that this is somewhat ordered list that I appreciate in the course: How interesting the course is in general. Is there enough variety between the holes? Is it challenging different level of golfers? How is the course designed so that it is interesting to play only front 9 or back 9. How well is it maintained? Even a great course is not great if it is not maintained well. The fairways need to look good, greens should roll well and there shouldn't be any blank spots. It also affects to experience if the sand in the bunker is wet and hard (has been on the courses where it is almost like clay). I think that designing the roughs is one state of art. Looks. This is lot dependent on the landscape and how you utilise it. At least I appreciate if the views during the course are beautiful and time to time you can just stop between your hits and enjoy the nature and views. Driving range & Practice area. Normally I want to spare some time for warm-up before the round. Lot of things have effect also in this experience: Is there enough hitting places at the driving range and is it how far from the clubhouse / 1st tee? What kind of a practice area there is for putting and chipping? How much the range balls are? How far is it? Dedicated golf trips are different thing where you can skip this part. But on regular Saturday / Sunday when you go to play a round of golf, it might be difficult to get the acceptance from your family if it always takes the whole day. Club house & Halfway house. These are the places that can give you the mood boosters before/after/during the course. I appreciate if the selection of food & beverages is wide and fairly priced. The food needs to be tasty and freshly made as well. Others: Those are top things for me. Pro-shops and other things are not on my priorities when rating a course in general. I think that the price for the course is dependent on those factors. Time to time I am willing to pay more from the round if it puts those mentioned things right. For your regular course, it is probably then a best combination of those mentioned factors.
  13. Currently I am rocking Finnish micro brand putter: JAG Putters Looks and feels are excellent. I started with a mallet-type of putter but never got used to it. When I found heard about this one, it instantly got my attention. One guy doing something nice in the same city. He gave one for the test and after one session I bought this one. With mallet (it was Nike Method Matter), I just wasn't able to control the speed at all and somehow it everything was difficult with it. With this, I got instantly some of the three-putters away. This one came with Ping Blackout Pistol ("Dancing Man") grip but it might still change to Superstroke at some point. As I have played only a year for now, I think that this serves the purpose. After I get my putting stroke a bit more consistent, I could try out other ones models as well but at least next summer this will be my go-to-putter.
  14. In general it is rather easy to get rid of the old clubs in FB groups / marketplace. Clubs are made for playing so I see no reason why they should be kept in my storage if someone can find a joy and excitement from them. As this is a hobby, it costs money and I'm okay with that. Therefore I don't even try to make profit when selling the clubs but to set a fair price and try to get rid of the clubs rather quickly instead of putting the price into skies and hoping there is someone that buys them anyways. It's also nice to think in a way that selling your old clubs with a fair price can make this sport possible also for people that don't have that good income but want to play.
  15. I have Wilson Staff wedges (50° and 56° Hi-Toe). The 50° is with KBS shaft as it is older model whereas 56° is with DynamicGold shaft. I think those have been served the purpose quite well. I think that for my level, two wedges are just enough. From those shafts, I think that the DynamicGold has just a bit softer feeling that I like. When it comes time to buy new ones, I am interested to try out TM Milled Grind wedges. I really like the looks of those.
