  1. According to Roundabout Golf App - my second hole (11th on the course) was my best in today's round. Nothing spectacular but just a solidly average hole.
  2. Hulencourt GC - Belgium | Holes 10-18 Played a quick solo 9 to bring up the rear of our HS golf match today. Had a better round than the most recent, scoring net +1 for 9. Had a good day for me with driving and approach per SG. Horrible putting day...a recent reoccurring theme. Course was really wet, everything was plugging in fairway or rough. Happy with my long drive as it was all carry.
  3. I am a huge fan of Roundabout Golf (formerly V1 Golf) with the Apple Watch integration. Been using it for 3 years now and it does everything I need. I paid for the Eagle Subscription on a discount, but for what I need will be dropping down to birdie moving forwards. I have it set to manual club tracking after playing around with the auto tracking feature. Took a few rounds to get used to it but now it's seamless. Hit ball, click the track shot button on watch, select club, walk to ball. I prefer it over GolfShot - which I recently tried again, as the track button is on the main watch screen beside the pin placement button and Front/Middle/Back distances. I only have to swipe to the side to set the first putt location. I found I was swiping a lot more with GolfShot. I carry my phone in my pocket and use the phone GPS for battery purposes. This also lets me pull up the full GPS if I want distances to a specific target. A key feature for me is, and the team I coach, is you can set it to tournament mode. Not all of the other apps have this feature clearly labelled. We have a lot of guys/girls on the team who use the free version as its great for during play, just doesn't give SG stats but counts putts, GIR and FIR. The only feature I wish it had was for practice rounds a slope calculation for plays like distances. Its smart caddie does wind well but elevation isn't there yet.
  4. In Belgium, you are probably looking at around 65-85 euro for a weekday and 115 euro for a weekend green fee. The local 9 hole city "municipal" is 40euros per 9 - complete rip off IMO. Best deal is 25 minutes from the city, twilight fee of 35 euro after 5pm (in Belgium you can golf till 930pm easily in summer). I am a C card member of a course, which gives me a Federation card (required) and weekday prices on weekends at the course. It also gives me access to the expat golf league that rotates around different courses in the area. This "membership" is 235 euros in the first year and then 160 euros every other year. A full membership isn't worthwhile as I go home to Canada for summers and have not come around yet to the idea of Belgium winter golf. Plus I golf for free during the season as the HS golf coach at practice and competitions (number 1 perk!).
  5. Today's focus is loading my front side in transition to use more ground force instead of getting over-the-top trying to generate power. Practice is video'ed dry swings off carpet. Started to see results on camera and can now associate them with a specific feel during those swings. Next step is to bring this to the range on Tuesday to see what ball flight looks like with (hopefully) replicated feels.
  6. Played the National Brussels in Belgium today for our weekly comp. Scored a net 27pts playing stableford. Not a great round but the highlight was reaching a 475 yard par 5 in two. My first time ever reaching a par 5 in two.
  7. I played in the league when I was in China. It was a group of mainly teachers looking to socialize on a Friday night. Golf was important but so to was the social aspect and beers. League was a ton of fun. Format - Regular season leaderboard to seed for playoffs. Playoffs turns into 9-hole 1v1 competitions with highest net stableford score moving on. We do this over two nights with the following rounds - play-in, 1/4, 1/2 and finals. Once you lose, you work your way through the losers bracket. - Courses rotated around geographically, could never play a course from the same country two weeks in a row. Teams or Individuals? If teams, how many players per team? We split our 16 member league into 2 teams, draft on first night of the season. We have both a team and individual winner for the season and weekly individual winners (both Net and Gross). Format of the competition? - Net Stableford How many holes do you play per night? - 18 How many weeks is the season? What months does your season run? - Season is 12 weeks long - Play from September to March How do you handle handicapping? - all done through the simulator software we use, Golfzon. Each member has their own account and it keeps track of all the stats and handicaps League fees? Charge for the season? Do you also do a weekly game/prize pool? - Flat fee for the season after working out total league cost for the sim time and dividing by number of players. Have an opt-in weekly pool for low Gross Score. OBs and 3 putts are fines that go into the prize pool for end of season. If you missed a week, you could replay it on your own time and cost. - we did trading cards with stats on the back at the end of each season. - prize for season longest drive and longest putt - got team shirts Anything you wish your sim league would include or do differently/in addition? - sometimes players got too intoxicated to finish. We should have had more awareness of that.
  8. My goal this year is to play more competition golf. Recently joined the National Federation of the country I live in to be able to play competition golf, so step 1 complete. This is more for me to try something new as a golfer that I haven't done since being a JR golfer. All of the competitions will be with handicap so hopefully I can be in the mindset of playing myself and the course and not worry about the golfer beside me. With coaching the HS team, I am able to get on the course to hit balls multiple times a week but don't have time to grind out a full practice session too often. So the game is holding currently not really improving.
  9. I have two pairs of UA shoes, one spiked and the other spikeless. Range and dry summer rounds will be spikeless. All other times are spiked. Both are waterproof as I am a baby when it comes to wet socks from dew or rain, at the sacrifice of breathability.
  10. Outside of putting everything out (which sounds like you are already doing). The one thing I notice as a HS golf coach that separates kids who play a lot of tournament golf and those who don't, is announcing your ball before first tee or if needing to change ball brand. As simple as when exchanging score cards to mark saying something like "ProV1 #3 with blue dot" to communicate what ball you are playing, and then if you need to change (run out of that ball) and not playing a one ball tournament, they will renounce the change. Also some interclubs have different rules about coaching from the captain or teammates. I would say that expect your Handicap to inflate slightly as you start to play more different courses if your score is generally posted from one course that you know well. It is a different skill of being able to shoot well in relation to your handicap on different courses.
  11. Been gaming the Wilson Triad balls for the first couple of rounds this year and I have been content with them. Haven't really noticed a difference in switching to them from Maxfli Tour balls (due to availability in EU). However, they do feel a tiny bit smaller. Not sure if this impacts anything, especially at my level. Will look to the new Staff balls for the next reload or maybe some Vice offerings. The graph analysis of the ball data is incredible! Helpful to try and pick a ball based on my needs with out the ability to go due a ball fitting. Thank you!
  12. Currently playing Wilson Triad balls (purchased for 28euros/dz). Got them purely for the price, availability in EU and positive reviews they have received from a variety of reviewers. Last year was in Maxfli Tour balls but they are hard to get at a good price in Europe and I didn't have room to bring back any last time home. Considering SEED and Vice as well for next order.
  13. I usually carry 6 game balls of the same type and then a collection of random balls that were found, or of different brand/model than the one currently playing. Probably have around 15 balls in my bag at any given time.
  14. Just played Stone River in Omaha and used rentals. The set was a box set of Clevland launcher clubs made for rental situations. Best thing about them was they had the lofts stamped on each of the irons. This really helped with knowing what club to use as they were loft jacked by about 4 degrees compared to my gamers.
  15. CLUBS HAVE ARRIVED!! Unboxing Opened the box at the shipping drop box I had them shipped to. The NewLevel branded box was in great shape, and nice to see a branded box. The packaging inside was all extra paper, the clubs were well wrapped around, and there was no movement of the clubs when shaking the box. All clubs were also in iron covers. While they will not be staying on, I will keep them for transportation as I do fly with my clubs a couple of times a year, as well as multiple team bus rides. I would say this is an undervalued perk from New Level if you are a golfer who travels a lot with your clubs. I was somewhat surprised that there was no foam holders like how some other DTC send their clubs with, but clubs all came in great condition. No freebies or goodies in the box. Would have been nice, but I paid for clubs and got clubs that I am very happy with. No complaints. The build sheet was included along with the initials of who completed each stage of production at the factory. Initial Impressions + Aesthetics (4 out of 5 stars) These clubs look great! The build quality is top-notch, nothing is out of place, and the finish is great. I will let the photos speak for themselves. But a nice and compact club with a nice top line. The only small complaint, like many others have said with the design, is the paint fills on the back. I do not mind the colours, but straight black and a little thinner font would have suited my eye a bit more. Weight is obviously less than my Cobras as the shaft is a DG 105 vs S300. But the balance point feels really nice to me during a few practice swings. Really happy with the grips, I went with Lamkin Crossline +2 wraps on the bottom hand. This reduced the taper a perfect amount for my hand size (M/L glove size). I will be switching the grips on my wedges and hybrids to this setup too. Would have rather had the option to pick a different colourway for the grips, but this was not an option. Straight black or grey base with black would have been my first picks. Grip is nicely installed with no twisting. To come... first range session + first round. But, to some up quickly, they are effortless and so much more forgiving than my old Cobras.
  16. Looking for some info from some more knowledgeable people. Club: 3w Cobra Radspeed with evenflow riptide CB 50gram S-flex I would like to shorten the shaft by 1/2”. I know the differences of trimming tip vs butt for normal shafts but does the CB shaft change the trimming? I like the feel of the shaft currently, do not want to lose any swing weight (would be okay gaining a tiny bit).
  17. Clubs have been delivered to my parents in Canada. My flight from Belgium to Canada today had a mechanical issue in the hold, meaning my dog couldn't fly, rebooked for Sunday. Hopefully will get to unbox only 24hr delayed. Insane turnaround time by New Level. I did pay for the expedited build, and they were delivered within one week of ordering. That is incredible!!!
  18. I agree with most that has been said, you need to really understand the golf swing + your current swing to get value out of the YouTube golf swing tip videos. I think there are some great intro to the golf game videos that will help people who have never swung a club have a reasonable starting point. Is it as good as a pro lesson, no. Is it better than advice from a friend, probably. Mark Crossfield has some great feel drills that I have used to tighten certain things up in my swing that the PGA pro my team works with has pointed out I need to focus on. Granted I have a very good understanding of what a good golf swing should be and a reasonable understanding / ability to feel my swing - know my tendencies when I'm loosing my swing. I will also say I have enjoy trying some of the short game YouTube video suggestions - mainly about 50 yards in. Rick Shiels had a recent one which I have been trying out some of the suggestions from in my own practice. I have also subscribed to two of Monty's video series about swing coaching. The one I liked the most had a variety of paths to follow depending on the "feel" that resonated for you to get the outcome you need at various points. It felt slightly more tailored, given the format.
  19. Casual round - show up maybe 20 mins before. Check-in, swing some wedges and dynamic stretch to get loose, hit some wedges and role some putts. Usually don't bother hitting balls. Competitive Round or Coaching a HS Comp - on the range 45 mins before tee time, 15 mins of hitting wedge, high iron, mid iron, low iron, hybrid/wood off deck and driver, stock wedges matrix and end with first hole tee shot club, 10 mins chipping, 10 mins putting, 5 min strategy chat
  20. This is something I need to work on fixing, I am playing 6 different grips including putter. Driver is GP MCC, 3W is Crossline 360, hybrids are TM RBZ grip similar to Tour Velvet but different, Irons are Lamkin Wrap grip, have some Crosslines and Tour Velvet in wedges, Putter is Odyssey grip. With new irons on the way with Crossline +2wraps bottom hand, the plan is to replace one of the wedges and the hybrid that need re-gripping to match the irons. Slowly transition everything to this as re-gripping needs to happen or new clubs are purchased.
  21. Could I get the Canada and Europe badges please?
  22. Yes, teaching at one of the international schools in Brussels.
  23. Hi everyone. This is going to be, hopefully, a summer long review of my recent purchase of the New Level 902-PD irons. Intro TL;DR: Replacing my hand me down Cobra irons from 1994. Documenting the process of picking the irons and using them this summer I have been golfing since I was a young kid, had a junior membership at the local muni and played a bunch. Was always an average golfer but more sporting commitments belonged to hockey and baseball. Took some lessons and was able to play in the low 90s as a teen. Continued playing sporadically in university, breaking 90 a couple of times. As an international teacher, I have had the fortune to continue to play in the summers back in Canada as well as in Kuwait and China. Kuwait was once a month rounds and China was a weekly screen golf league with a heavy emphasis on fun and beers. School also had three simulators (Mevo+) so I had time to practice. Now in Brussels, I am the Head Golf Coach at the school I am at, as well as an academic teacher. Having a lot more time to work on my game and play, supported by a PGA pro at the course we practice out of, I decided it was time to update my irons. Me as a golfer Swing Speed with 7-iron: low 80mph - carry 155-160 Current Irons: King Cobra Oversize Tours with DGs 300u shafts from 1994 My game is streaky, can shoot even for the front and then play the back at 10 over. Usually a few big holes will derail a round instead of a slow burn. My iron miss is a pull or too much loft on contact. Iron Selection Requirements I was looking for: · Player’s Distance or Player’s Category · DTC for price reasons · Good shaft selection options Wishes: · Forged · 7 iron loft of 32 deg FITTING TL;DR: Got fit for a comparable club to find the best shaft, winner was DG 105 s300 Due to living in Belgium and wanting the irons for playing this summer, the plan was to get fit for irons in Belgium and order them in Canada so they would be waiting for me when I got there. I reached out to Sub70, Haywood and New Level to see what comparable irons would be to get fit for if I was looking at their CB or PD irons. At the fitting centre (Golf Centre Wavre) I tried the following heads: T100s, P770, P790, Mizuno 223 and ZX5 mkII, and shafts, DG 105s, PX LZ 5.5/6, KBS Tour S, KBS Tour 120 S, Modus 105S and DG S300. They did not have the DG 120 to test which was a shaft I would have liked to try, however other 115g-120g shafts were not as consistent so the fitter felt it would not have been the best fit. Quick note about the fitting: it was a great experience, knowledgeable and patient fitter, Trackman 4 tech and multiple brand fitting carts. Through the fitting it was clear the DG 105 S was the best shaft for me. Consistently better strike, club speed and fitting data regardless of the head. KBS was the worst for me, has always been this way, their shaft profile doesn’t fit me. The head that was the best turned out to be the Mizuno 223s followed by ZX5s in 1 deg up. If money wasn’t a concern, I would have bought this set up. However, that is currently not the case and would have been hard to justify to the missus. Selecting New Level TL;DR: Chose New Level 902-PD for cost, quality and turnaround time. Next I reached out to each of the companies and said I was fit into Mizuno 223s in DG 105 S, what would be the closest combination to this that you offer. New Level came back with the 902-PDs, Sub70 was 699 pro V2 and Haywood was their CBs. I entered this thinking I would end up in Sub70 but they were out of stock for the shaft and head combo I wanted. Haywood I was interested in as a Canadian and their strong reviews on TXG. At the end of the day picked New Level as I have a friend who likes his, they received good reviews on MGS and TXG, they were cheaper in cost by a considerable bit and turnaround time was much shorter. Was happy with New Level as it checked all of the requirements I was looking for as well as some of the wishes. All of the companies had great customer services to deal with. Final Order New Level 902-PD 5-PW with DG 105 S300s Lamkin Crossline Grip + 2 wraps bottom hand Next Steps The irons should be delivered early next week. I will do an unboxing and initial impressions post as well as a first thoughts after a range session, comparing against my old clubs. These irons I am hoping will add forgiveness on mishits and with the lighter shaft a bit more ease in the swing.
  24. Canadian living in Belgium and really enjoying the country.
