  1. I am surprised I do not see frequent mentions of taking 5 mins or so after the stretching and warm up routine to mentally relax and then focus. I do that if I am not rushed, which honestly I am rushing more than I would like to admit. I usually have the best rounds when I allow for that extra time as a sort of halfway zen session and just observe nature and the course around me. Cheers.
  2. Pictures and bag choice by tester arodrig29 are simply amazing. Congrats to all the testers, it looks to be a fantastic group where all involved have extremely good taste to go with nicely varied perspectives and writing styles. This bag is immediately on the want list before the testing is even completed. Well done gents, looking forward to the reviews. Cheers.
  3. If it was serious golf, Grant Horvat hands down. If it was to have a fun round, Bob Does Sports. Cheers.
  4. Thank you kind sir, you are both a gentleman and a scholar. Cool stuff there aplenty. Great find if I do say so, and I just did! Cheers.
  5. I try to think of the swing as torque first to unlock the horsepower correctly. Like running a quarter mile on the strip. Max horsepower/speed is not required nor preferable out of the gates for consistent smash factor, and you will have a wheel spinning out of control burn-out if you jam the throttle with too much speed when the tree goes green. The technique and rhythm/timing by you as the driver applies maximum torque no matter how powerful the engine. Speed like horsepower, happens naturally after and as more torque is applied correctly, the "launch"(backswing) if you will. Be a fine tuned machine, time the load sequencing and launch torque...once moving clean and smooth, then jam the throttle and row through the gears unlocking the horsepower/speed up to the contact point, and the results are your best quarter mile. I want a progressively increasing ramp up of rpms, starting at maximum rpms will never work(well). I was a master tech for many years in my younger days, and so it sticks in my mind easiest. Cheers.
  6. Good take, this is crazy accurate for me as well, eerie considering the nearly unlimited number of options, combinations and possible distances. Cheers.
  7. Yeah, this website is 2nd to none IMO. Even the layout and structure is fantastic...before you even get to the stellar articles and reviews, again before you even get to the amazing forums that are a wealth of knowledge for all levels and extremely welcoming just like golfers in real life(rare online these days). Easy to navigate here and straight forward to digest the in-depth information, the articles, testing, and break downs thay are digestible for all levels. Cheers.
  8. Good old fashioned range time, beautiful weather and no more rain. I really enjoy that out here in E TX nearly everywhere is a grass range, in CA most places are pads only for a quick stop and sending a basket of balls. Cheers.
  9. It could be that some of the people going after Krank drivers, have struggled with distance and have reached a decision to get serious about fixing the issue. The persons then get a proper fitting and driver lessons, when combined with the club change. Magically unlocking said 20 to 40 yard gains, it just happens that the club maybe is not the biggest factor in the distance increase. Full disclosure, I have never used a Krank driver. Cheers.
  10. Last year I decided to go with FootJoy. Now I own and rotate wearing 3 pairs. Extremely comfortable, so much so that the reason I have 3 pairs, is that I made one pair my daily shoe for non-golf even. Shoe selection for all are available from very golf forward, to casual, to even an office type of shoe. Really nice range of styles and colors, without getting too extreme in the colorways and unique designs for every offering. The arch support is the perfect height to keep your dawgs from barking after an all day wear. I wear these for the office, mild hikes, inclement weather for the solid waterproofing, and of course golf. The only single and minor "con", is that extremely smooth flooring when wet, will be slippery with spikeless, but what shoe designed this way isn't? Also, please do not wear these on ice, you can probably guess why not, but I found out in a hilarious fashion at a cabin in Big Bear, CA. this winter. A huge deciding factor for me, if you swap to your "normal" shoe after a round of golf, you will immediately want to go back to the FootJoys. Cheers.
  11. Thank you, I will look into this straight away. Happy Friday to you. I would not be mad about having less to mow... thats for certain, takes about an hour currently and is not the most beautiful grass, heh. Cheers.
  12. Good morning. Tracking shows I should get a package today with a basic net to set-up in the backyard for additional practice without leaving home. Any recommendations for a pad? I have a generic section of turf, anyone recommend a certain pad? I am going to start by hit off grass, maybe save myself a little mowing at the same time, heh. Cheers.
  13. Much appreciated for your in-depth reply, I will definately research Crossover Symmetry. Seems to be key, to make sure to slowly ramp up and pull back if there are any signs of discomfort, my injury was considerably less severe than yours. It sounds like I need to judge how it feels and move up effort in small stages. Important to baby step through the mental aspect of it too I imagine. I thought the answer would be an outright no-go for "X" amount of time, but this is good news and makes sense. I am happy to hear you are fully healed up, may there be many pain free rounds with low scores in your near future my friend. Cheers.
  14. I use a glove on all shots except putting, I prefer a really tight fit and fully enclosed wrist, none of that elastic stretchy band that is on 90% of glove cuffs that do not "secure". Many of my practice days back in CA were at a beautiful water range, no glove equals maybe no club, unless you go snorkeling or scuba diving. Cheers.
  15. I really like the black the most. I have a somewhat hard time pounding black finishes into sand or unfavorable lies, as it looks fantastic...I settled on trying harder and focusing to have those scenarios very infrequently crop up. Now mix-matched is my jam. Also, that's why I started with the 52 in black over 56 and 60. The 60 in raw was a gift from my Pops, so it stays, heh. Cheers.
  16. How would one go about speed training after a somewhat recent shoulder injury, "turned the corner" on the injury, but I feel it's dangerous to go back to it and could use some words of where to "exercise" caution. (Puns intended) I had good results previously, but the injury and then moved halfway across the US, settled in and healed up now. The injury was not golf related, if it matters, no surgery and a partial thickness tear of rotator cuff(subscapularis). Healed with physio(PT). Maybe the answer is...don't and wait more time, and focus elsewhere until it's a distant memory. Any suggestions? Cheers.
  17. It really seems like the place to be, and welcoming to all levels. A lot to be learned here, effort is definately a requirement to really refine the game. It's a lifelong experience, that's for sure. Cheers.
  18. Yes sir, Cleveland RTX(2 Zipcore, and then a full face 52). I have 3 different finishes and models, not sure why, but that's how it ended up. Maybe subcontiously easier to reach for the right one for different scenarios. Does anyone else use mix matched finishes, on purpose? If I consistently scored lower, I would say that is my "calling card", as I have not yet seen it done in others bags. I have the stock set Ping g5 PW, then Cleveland wedges as: 52 Deg., 56 Deg., and 60 Deg. I guess I am "Wedge forward" in my bag with 4 wedges. Tricky game golf is, putting a lot of effort into putting practice, but less wedge practice and my wedge game has suffered a bit. I am hoping moving and working from home will allow more time for both. I am going to guess that formal rounds in a challenge setting at a local club is the next step, and most beneficial to a lower handicap. Cheers.
  19. I hear you, we have had 7" of rain over Tues. and Wed. here, putting a real "damper" on the weekly golf rituals here, to say the least. Cheers.
  20. Most recent purchase was a Cleveland HB Soft Milled #4 w-UST shaft. Immediate massive results, best bang for buck as far as payoff to my scores personally, over any previous equipment change. On the prowl for a new 3W to replace an older Taylormade M2 that I really liked but somehow has a small split developing center of the lower lip on the face. I am unsure how that even happened? Recommendations welcome. Cheers.
  21. Indoor putting practice, attempting to go to the local range later today. We had 7" of rain the past 2 days, so a short 9-hole is probably out of the question. Cheers.
  22. Hello everyone. Small intro about myself, a previous lurker who mostly read the articles. I interact quite a bit on the 49ers fan forums, as a known frequent poster (10+ years). No better time than now to start posting on MyGolfSpy, as I am looking to join a local club and play more competitive formal rounds. I got into golf about 2-3 years ago when my favorite person, my Pops, decided to retire and move to Palm Springs. I did not have much experience with golf in my youth, mostly the big-3 of baseball, basketball, and football. Played HS basketball and football, but not golf which was unfortunate for my scores while learning. I am looking forward to interacting with the community here, I recently moved from So Cal to East Texas. I now work from my home office, and my time to dedicate to golf has greatly increased. I play 2 to 4 times per month, weather permitting now living in TX versus CA. Also, I typically practice several times per week be it at the range or at home. Now on to the clubs, I hope to get fitted sometime in the near future. I am currently looking for a local club and a fitter in the area, and of course need to be ready for the expenditure in time and money to properly follow through. WITB: D - Mizuno ST-Z (10.5 Deg.) 3W - Taylormade M2 (15 Deg.) 3Hyb - Callaway Rogue (19 Deg.) 3i to PW - Ping G5 (4i Not In Play) Wedges - 52 Deg., 56 Deg., and 60 Deg. Putter - Cleveland HB Soft Milled #4 w-UST Mamiya Shaft Bag - Ping Traverse (Black/Grey) Rangefinder - Nikon CoolShot 50i I never have been big posting on social media or interacting there and only was a "forum guy" previously, but now I am starting to try it out. Fun times ahead. (Edit was to add a note my 4i is not in play.) Cheers.
  23. I, like many others when they first pick up golf, lacked practice in the most important area, putting of course. I also attempted to guess what my grip, stroke type, and preferred putter style was. This was a gross miscalculation on my part. After some hard knocks lessons and frequent 3-putts, ballooning my score and having others in the groups I played constantly question why my ball striking ability was so far ahead of what I should produce score-wise. I dropped my pride a notch, I asked and researched, then I went to my favorite "head pro" which of course is my Pops. Armed with some feel for my stroke, better ideas how to be successful, and of course much needed focus on putting practice. I actually went to test at local shops after researching. I matched a putter recommended at MyGolfSpy that seemed to fit perfectly with my newfound insight and change in preferred putter style to go with a stroke and grip change. I tested multiple times in person after finally finding the putter in stock at a golf shop a ways away. The Cleveland HB Soft Milled w-UST shaft. My old Odyssey EXO Seven was retired, and never to return. The results were astonishingly better, I am confident the old putter will not be making a comeback. Many thanks to my Pops, and MyGolfSpy. Cheers.
  24. Cleveland for my wedges. RTX Zipcore: 60degree, 56degree, 52degree. Cheers.
