PXG opened a new store in San Diego today and I booked a free 30 minute swing session over a month ago so I could come and check out some clubs that I’ve been eyeing for awhile now (the 0211 irons). In an effort to not burry the lede, even though my swing session was free, I did still get a free box of PXG balls for those who are wondering.
In addition to getting to try the 0211 irons I also got to swing the new Black Ops irons (that will be replacing the 0211 as PXGs game improvement irons). I actually learned about the new irons yesterday when MyGolfSpy announced that PXG was letting them find testers for them. Outside of this forum and the store I couldn’t find anything online about the new Black Ops irons.

My fitter (Eddie) had me swing my 7 iron (Taylor Made Oversize Burner (1996)) and after about 5 swings gave me a run down of my swing stats and handed me a 0211 7 iron. After a few swings he let me try the Black Ops 7 iron as well.  He made a few adjustments with each every few swings and gave me a huge pointer that helped me improve my distance drastically (on top of swinging a club from this century).

Eddie was obviously trying to sell me the clubs, for which I can’t blame him. It’s his job. But he wasn’t too pushy (everyone I talked to was super nice and helpful) and he made sure I got to swing the club as many time as needed before giving his final sales pitch. At the end of the day the 0211s felt a little nicer to me (in the small sample size I got of each.)

As many of you can probably relate to, I have to consult my wife (and see who gets picked to be testers for this PXG test coming up), but I’ve confirmed that I need to have some PXG irons in my bag soon. If you are in San Diego and interested in PXG clubs, or just want some free balls, the experience is worthwhile.
feel free to drop any questions below!

Your fitting sessions reminds me of my firring experience in Orlando. The staff was great and there was no pressure to buy. I did end up purchasing irons from them a couple of years ago.
Whenever I have a question or stop the store the are professional and don't try to rush you out if your not making a purchase. It was a great experience and I have recommended them to several of my friends.

Sorry for the delay, apparently things take more time than estimated coming from Japan.....
But I have received the Unit and took it to the range last week.
I hit a bucket of balls off grass at my local range going through all the clubs.
From what I can tell, it is exactly the same as the HS-130A other than being bright red and one HUMONGOUS caveat....Swing Speed and Ball speed are only in m/s. You can tell that the MPH option is on the screen, but I have tried every possible button combination to try and get the reading to change to MPH. I have scoured the internet and used every ai source I know of (other than Åberg), and still no solution to change the setting. If you have any ideas for changing the setting, please let me know.
That being said, the carry is still in yards.
From my perspective, The smash factor is still very useful as it has given me feedback on how poorly I am currently striking my long irons......But when it comes to swing speed, it would be nice to have it in MPH to be able to compare to what most publications have listed for "fast" or "slow" swing speeds. That being said, I am still going to keep it as I mostly care about swing speed as a reference marker to see gains. If I one day want to brag about my swing speed, I can just convert from m/s to mph.
If you can afford the extra $60 or so for the HS-130A, it would be a big difference. But at that price point I may look at some of the other offerings out right now...

    Hello All,
I have recently been in the market for a simple launch monitor to tune in my distances with wedges and Irons when on the range and at the course. My budget was $200 which sadly kept me out of the killer deals currently on the Mevo and SC3. I saw a few reviews out there for the new version of the PRGR and thought it would be a great fit for me and it might even get me into speed training.
Something told me to search on Ebay for one, and I came across a Red Eyes PRGR Launch Monitor for $153. From the little research I did, it appears Red Eyes is the name in which these monitors are released in Japan, and the Red version should be the exact same thing. I have previously ordered "gray market" canon cameras in the past with great success, and this seemed to be the same opportunity with this launch monitor.
The Red PRGR should be delivered this week and I am looking forward to seeing if it could be the best kept secret or if I am about to download Japanese duolingo and convert my life to meters in order to use it...
Full Review to be posted soon...

I found a set of Taylor Made Oversize Burner irons from 1996 at a local thrift shop for $1.50 per club 3-9 (added an Arnold Palmer Trumatic PW as well for the same price. After military discount the total was $11.75.) Since I’m hitting some much older Tommy Armor replicas that my dad got for free in 1992, this should be at least a slight upgrade. Took them out to the range this morning and the sweet spot is a lot easier to find. Even on a bad swing I can take it much further than my other set. Excited to take these on the course and play a round with them!

Had MyGolfSpy recommended to me by a friend and have been following the product reviews and recommendations. Trying to get more involved in the community and hope to get great advice from the more experienced golfers on here (as it usually goes on the course.)

Hadn’t bought anything recently, but I booked a swing session at the new PXG store in SD when it opens and I’m hopeful that it goes well so I can get fitted for some 0211 irons.

Feel and confidence are so important at this stage. If you swing it 100-110+ with driver, you'll probably be best served for a ball with a bit more compression. Definitely read through this MGS article (https://mygolfspy.com/buyers-guides/golf-balls/best-golf-balls/). I've always just used ProVIs because they test the best, but they don't feel great to some of my friends, who have a lower HC than I do. Some prefer a softer ball.
Lastly, cost is an important variable. If you don't mind spending a bit extra, lining up a ProVI or ProVIx can give you a little extra confidence boost, knowing the ball is solid and the same every time.
I'd grab a couple sleeves of different compressions and see what feels best to you off the face.

All of my instructors have said to remove as many variables as you can to gain consistency. Golf balls though are like buying a consumable - you’re paying money to lose the ball, essentially. For many, it’s a real expense!

If you choose a ball, seek out interviews with Dean Snell. He says the ball is always going to behave the same  (mostly) off the tee and where the ball is most important is around the green. So when you test balls, work backwards. Start on the putting green, then chipping and pitching and so on through your irons. As a beginner I did a terribly small not remotely scientific test with 4 different balls (2, 3, and 4 pieces, and a “women’s specific” one). I found the 2 piece balls too unpredictable, and loved how the 4 pieces spun off wedges, but there wasn’t enough difference from the 3 piece to justify the extra $20 a box, especially if you’re losing more than 1-2 a round. For the record, I found the Snell 3 piece to be the prize winner for performance and price. I just order a value pack and I’m set for more than a year.

It matters in the context of knowing your carry distances and having them be consistent.  But there could be a dozen different golf balls that perform, more or less, the same for you.  If you grab some Callaway Supersofts from Target one round and then some Taylormade Speedsofts the next, it’s unlikely you’ll notice any difference.  If you add some Srixon Soft Feel’s and some Maxfli Softfli’s to the mix, too, paint over the logos, jumble them all up and hit 48 shots, I’d bet money you wouldn’t be able to tell which was which or even that any are different.  The same goes for balls typically branded as ‘fast’ or ‘feel,’ etc. On a simulator, they might have numbers that look different - like, ‘omg this one is 3 yards longer than the rest! - but you probably won’t notice it on the course.
I’d suggest finding a TYPE of ball you like and not worrying about the exact brand/model too much… Unless you want to; then, do that.
