  1. Thank you for your service and the best for you future career. May you always have "fair winds and following seas".
  2. Thank you for your service. During my time as a 2nd Lt., I was smart enough to know that you would have been my best friend. I had a Master Sergeant tell me, give him five or ten minutes with a junior officer and he will know if they were a "ringknocker", a VMI type, or a OCS product such as myself. However, I knew I was never going to be a lifer. I have spent most of my life in the hospital industry. Upon retirement, perhaps you might consider the civilian side. Years ago, Onslow Memorial Hospital was a client. It seems that every department head was a retired Marine.
  3. My Hoos got their second victory this weekend. They are now 2 & 1 and its a darn shame the season didn't end this weekend. Many years ago, a golfing bud was a Tennessee alum. My Hoos beat his Vols on the football field. He says to me--I see you got lucky your students beat my athletes.
  4. As a Redskins fan, I guess I should say "welcome to my world". It's a world like the saying "if you have never cried, you don't really know how good it feels to laugh". Related, being a Redskins fan, you really, really enjoy a win when it happens. Additionally, like with the Redskins, with the Raiders you do have your good memories.
  5. Similarly, Frank comes home to find his wife sitting on the steps with her bags packed. He asks-where are you going. She replies that she was going to Vegas because she heard that she can get $200 to do what she does to him for free. He immediately packs his bags and waited with her. She asks where are you going, He replies, Vegas, I want to see how you live on $400 a year.
  6. I want to thank my Spider buds for the kindness their team showed this weekend. I'm not sure I will be saying the same to my Hokie buds come November 23 in Blacksburg. But the good news is that now football has started, my Retriever buds have stopped coming out of the woodwork.
  7. That's not that far removed for here as well. I have found that you don't buy a beer, you just rent them for a little while.
  8. But it most likely would be called: "Seniors Trying to Get Wild".
  9. God knew that I should not be allowed to reproduce, so my wife and I had no children. My wife is from a very large Catholic family. Every time one of her relatives dropped their pants, we got a God-child.
  10. sixcat: I understand that there are stated local problems regarding the pursuit of criminal charges of some sort. However, because there were monetary damages and it would appear that there is more than enough evidence identifying who did the damage, have you and your neighbors considered some sort of civil action. In a civil action, the issue would be monetary compensation and I'm not sure that a civil action would mandate police cooperation. I would think that you would only need to prove who did it and who has the monetary responsibility.
  11. Your post reminds me of the guy that answered his doorbell only to find the Sheriff standing there. After confirming his name, the Sheriff asked the guy if he had a picture of his wife. While the guy did not understand the request, he found a picture and gave it to the Sheriff. The Sheriff said: I'm truly sorry sir, but it looks like your wife was hit by a truck. To which the guy replied: I know, but she sure can cook.
  12. It looks to me like Steelers fans are everywhere twirling those towels. My wife is a die hard Ravens fan, so Steelers fans are not her favorite people on football Sundays. I understand that while someone may leave Pittsburgh, they never leave their Steelers. Personally, I respect that. I understand that one's heart typically remains at home. As a native Virginian, the Redskins will always be my team. I had the opportunity to meet and talk to Joe Thiesmann and Mark Rypien at a pro-am and I made sure to thank them for the memories.
  13. Perhaps, the groom and his buds know that his opportunity to play may diminish soon and that his bride is smiling because she knows that soon, she will no longer need to do certain things to him.
  14. During my years in Charlottesville during football season, the most important question asked was-how many kegs do we have.
  15. Yesterday, I was watching golf on the TV. It happened to be one of those rare occasions when the wife was watching with me. There was a commercial for some fairway woods when the My Golf Spy logo popped up. I said to her, did you see that Golf Spy logo, well they are my buds. She asked, so you know them. I said, remember last Saturday when I took that trek to play with my buds, well those buds were spies. In fact, two of my buds, Rob and Stud are rather important spies.
  16. It's important to understand that there is a difference between old coot wisdom and country wisdom. We've got country wisdom that we learned as youngsters.
  17. If my wife were to ask me to update her laptop, at some point I would say " Dear, you know that I am a techno idiot, how was I supposed to know that you were talking about your computer."
  18. Being an old coot, I have learned to accept the fact that my smart phone is smarter than I am. I accept that in this digital age of social media, I may be one of the few remaining dinosaurs.
  19. The discussion in the rant thread reminded me of this story: A guy hit his ball in the yard of a residence. When he went to retrieve the ball, the home owner came out and yelled "get off my lawn". When he returned to his buds, he related the incident. His buds asked, so what did you do. He said, "oh, I just threw another ball in his yard, because every dick should have two balls."
  20. God knew that I should not be allowed to reproduce, so I have no children.
  21. I agree, on the prize holes we should use the same tees. But if I am even close to the longest drive, it would mean that my health problems are not even close to the problems ya'll would appear to have. I suspect there is no Par 3, that I can't reach with a driver, if not, for me, personally, its a Par 4. PS to my buddy Rob: if you're going to out drive me, please use a driver, when you do it with an iron, its kind of embarrassing.
  22. As Rob posted, because of my health concerns, I was hesitant to take the open spot at Swan Pointe. But it seems that no one has taken the spot or has expressed a desire to take it. With the understanding that I will need to monitor my health concerns, I want to be there and will be there. I will need to stay seated in the cart as much as possible, so please don't think that I am trying to be unfriendly. Typically, I should have no problems on the front nine, but on the back nine, I may need to skip a hole or two. While they have not destroyed my desire to play, I must admit that my health problems have diminished my efforts to play. In this case, while I will enjoy playing, its more about spending time with good people and good friends. I'm sure it will be a good time with a lot of laughs and that's what I am truly looking forward to. If someone wants the spot and has not yet said so, I will step aside because they will not need the same accommodations as me which would only be fair to the group.
  23. It seems a friend of mine was having some problems getting an erection. This totally upset his wife and she demanded that he go to the drug store and purchase whatever pills would help him. Well, now my friend no longer has a problem after he handed her the diet pills.
  24. Yesterday, my buds and I played our routine course in Cambridge, the River Marsh. The course has now introduced what could be labelled the "Super Senior Tees". On about 8 of the holes, these tees are about 15 to 20 yards ahead of the regular "Senior Tees", on the remaining holes they are about 15 to 20 yards behind what would be considered the "Ladies Tees". For giggles and grins, my buds and I decided to play them. For me it was significant that on hole 17 from these tees, one does not need to hit over the water, it is about a 110 yard shot on the other side of the water. Long and short, from these tees, I shot a 74 when my typical score from the regular Senior tees varies from the mid to high 80s. Again, we did it for giggles and grins, so we will return to our regular tees our next round. But I must say, darn was it fun, I mean a heck of a lot of fun. While no where near the same and no way comparable, at least, for one day, I got to feel what it must be like to be a "single digit guy".
  25. Several years ago, a club to which I was a member hosted what was then known as the Futures Tour (now the Symetra Tour). On Monday and Tuesday of tournament week, several of the ladies would play with members for course knowledge. I had the absolute pleasure of enjoying a round with Erica Blasberg. Erica was an extremely attractive young lady and ever so pleasant. A couple of years afterward, she committed suicide. While my time with her was brief, she gave no indications that she would ever even consider suicide. Given her appearance and personality, I could only see a bight future for her. One can never truly know what's going through the mind of another or what event may occur in another's life to cause such an action.
