  1. Those of you with teams in the running for national recognition, I congratulate you and wish you all the enjoyment. As for me, my season was made this weekend, the HOOS BEAT DUKE. I am a happy camper and nothing is going to spoil it until basketball season.
  2. Sometimes, I find it good, helpful and safer that I am a digital illiterate and do not use social media. The wife of a friend, forwarded him a selfie of herself, with the question : "Does this dress make my butt look bigger?" My bud, responded: Noo It seems that his autocorrecting feature changed it to : Moo
  3. In a similar context, commute daily over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge during the summer. When reaching the top of the bridge, often people will slow down to take pictures. Its like some people have never seen water or ships before. There are some electronic signs before the toll booths on the east bound span. I have suggested that they make a sign that reads "this bridge is not a scenic overlook". When exiting the west bound span, if there are bikini clad ladies on boats heading back to Sandy Point, that I can understand.
  4. A man and his blonde wife operated a cattle ranch and their bull died. Having only $500 available to purchase another, he told his blonde wife, "I will go to the market and see if I can find one for that price. If I can I will send you a telegram." He found a bull for $499, having $1 remaining he goes to telegraph office and discovers that it costs $1 per word. So he was trying to figure out how to tell his wife to bring the truck and trailer. Finally, he tells the telegraph operator to just send the word, "comfortable". Skeptical, the telegraph operator asks "How will she know to come with the trailer." The man replies: "My wife is a blonde so she reads very slowly: "Come for ta bull".
  5. Where I was raised, fast food was hitting a 'possum at 60 miles per hour.
  6. i do not have the computer skills required to be a tester. Also, I know that this site would not be as good and as valuable as it is if the operators and moderators did not know what they are doing. Accordingly, I have no concerns regarding the selection of testers because (1) I am not a potential tester and (2) I know that those selecting the testers have the insights, knowledge and ability to select those best for testing and why.
  7. Most of us enjoy watching the Class of 2011 on the pro tour. I have had the opportunity to watch the future classes of golfers on a much lower level, but never the less, more enjoyable on a personal level. A close friend of mine has a grandchild that is the number 3 player on his high school team as a freshman. A year of so ago, my friend and I were playing golf and he noticed some improvement in my game and asked how he heck did that happen. I told him that I was taking lessons from a local PGA teaching pro. He then asked me to see if the pro would be willing to work with a youngster because he saw the natural talent in his grandson. So I asked the pro and he responded that he loved to work with young golfers one on one. Not only has the pro been working with the youngster but he is super enthused doing so. My friend and I constantly discuss the youngster's progress, My friend also knows that I have an interest in his progress. So he said to me that it would be helpful if someone other than his grandfather and his instructor would support and encourage him. Last week I went with my friend to watch his grandson and his teammates compete in the local high school championship which they won and his grandson had the third lowest score of all the players most of whom were seniors. Yesterday, I went to watch them compete in the eastern shore district championship. While another school beat them by one stroke in the team total, they never the less did qualify for the coming State championship in their division. While I was at those tournaments to support my friend's grandson, I found that I genuinely enjoyed watching all the youngsters play. I saw the personal relationships that they had developed over the season of play beyond their teammates and the sportsmanship that they displayed. I realized that I am watching some "really good kids" both as golfers and future adults. While since my days of playing a team sport times have changed, it seems that the values and lessons learned by participating in athletics and on a team have not diminished. While my friend and I have no illusions about his grandson playing on a Division I college team or every being a pro, I find it extremely rewarding and enjoyable to support youngsters in their athletic and team activities even if they are not your child. Most likely you will be supporting some "really good kids" that will be needed in our future.
  8. Are you sure about that? Do you really want to play a game that calls it love when you don't score.
  9. Just tell your wife that, financially, it may not be a good idea. My wife has a good friend that has lived in Florida for a number of years. Her husband's employer transferred him to their Florida operations. He is now retired. The Baltimore/Annapolis area is their home and they thought about returning home, in a manner of speaking. Unfortunately, they found that the sale of their current residence would not yield sufficient funds for its replacement here. Accordingly, I suggested to my wife that we sell our residence relocate to Florida and bank some funds. Unfortunately, it ain't gonna happen.
  10. Your Stones quote is on point. Permit me to finish it "but if you try real hard, you can get what you need". So regarding golf equipment are we willing to pay for what we want, not necessarily what we need.
  11. The value of any commodity not related to basic needs is based on what one is willing to pay and another is willing to accept. For multiple reasons, I guess, golfers, especially those labelled "hos" are willing to pay and the OEMs most assuredly are willing to accept. If one does not like the prices, then do not be willing to pay it. Sooner of later the prices will come down with each newer version and if enough of the consumer market is not willing to pay, the prices will come down even sooner. OK, OK , I would guess there are some here that consider that new shiny club a basic need.
  12. Indeed, Congratulations!!!! After my last such assessment, I asked "so how do I stand". The response was "that is what we are trying to figure out".
  13. A very attractive brunette showed up at her doctor's office. When the doctor asked what was her problem she stated that her whole body hurt, no matter where she touched it hurt. He asked her to show him, and sure enough where ever she touched her body she yelp with pain. The doctor said to her, you died your hair didn't you, you are actually a blonde. She asked, how did you know? He said because your finger is broken.
  14. Given my computer illiteracy, I'm very happy that I can write this post. This morning I opened the site using the means that I typically do, when I saw that things were different. My first thought was "this ain't good, I'm going to miss my spy buddies". Then I saw the registration or account creation in the corner of the screen. So I figured I'd just re-up so to speak. When I typed in my screen name, I got a message that it was in use. My thought was "of course it is that's me. So then I just pressed the function next to it and sure enough my info appeared with remember me checked. That was good, because I would never have remembered my password. So I hit enter and here I am. While I succeeded more of less by accident, I, never the less, am proud of myself, because I didn't panic and kept trying I made it here. Again, I am really happy posting this, because I would have missed my buds here and I didn't let a darn computer defeat me.
  15. Great looking vehicle, Rob. Really glad that you found a vehicle you liked at a price you liked. Thanks for the pictures, now I know what vehicle to look for when I go to Compass. Again, really glad that it worked out for ya.
  16. My wife and I still have a land line. We supply it's number to those with whom we really don't want to be bothered. Unlike our cell phones, it stays at home and is not with us 24/7. It has caller ID, when we get home, we check the ID or any messages. We respond to the ones we want and not to the ones we don't. When we get a call or text on our cell phones, we, at least, know that it is someone with whom we may have some interest or they wouldn't have our numbers.
  17. i certainly understand, like you with your Raiders, I am with my Redskins. The Redskins have always been part of my life, I watched and supported them since the days of Eddie Labaron. Its much like I have said: while I am now a resident of Maryland, my heart will always remain in my Virginia home. I guess it could be said that my heart remains with the Redskins. While it took a while for the wife to embrace the Ravens, she is now devoted to them. She was a devoted fan of the Baltimore Colts. We've had the occasion to move a couple of times, she would not even let me get an estimate from the Mayflower rep because they moved the Colts to Indianapolis. But this past week, while I enjoyed the Redskins victory, the game I enjoyed the most was the Jets/Brown game. While I have no attachment to Cleveland, watching the rookie quarterback move the team, a team that hadn't won for over a year, down the field was like watching a movie. For that couple of hours or so, my heart was on loan to Cleveland.
  18. I can remember during my teen years, if we would ever have video phones and thinking about the possibilities.
  19. Heck, if you're old, than I must be ancient. I can remember "party lines" and four digit phone numbers. Granted, I was a pre-school youngster, but darn it, I can remember them.
  20. Yep, now when I go the get a haircut, the barber asks--which hair would you like cut today.
  21. What the golf gods giveth, the golf gods can taketh away. The golf gods looked down and saw the sheepherders tending their flocks, which the gods found to be rather boring. They decided it would be more entertaining if rather than lying down in green pastures, the herders were playing on green pastures. So they instructed the herders to dig a hole, get a stick and see who could get a ball or perhaps a round stone into the hole in fewer efforts. Thus the game began and the gods have been entertained ever since. On a typical Sunday morning, my wife leaves for Mass and I leave to the golf course. I tell her that I bet I heard and saw more people praying than she did.
  22. Both the baseball and football strikes is one of the reasons I appreciate the professionals of our game, golf. In both strikes, I got the feeling that both the players and the owners really didn't give a darn about the working stiff that just wanted to take his wife and two kids to a ball game. While professional golfer's can make great money, they must produce and continue to produce, they don't just sign multi-year contracts. But more importantly, I think professional golfers appreciate their fans and understand that without them they would not be making such a living.
  23. I truly loved your post because you are where I want to be at the ripe old age of 70 and it gives me hope. Come January 1, I will be fully retired and you mirror my hopes or at least my plan. I just can't stay home and watch Jerry Spinger. I congratulate you and wish me luck.
  24. Remember the conversion vans that were popular some time ago. Do they still make them? They were rather nice and did not have the image of a mini-van. At our ages with our hair, or rather the lack of it, no one is going to call us hippies.
  25. I have a car and a pick-up truck. Both mirror me in that they are old but are still running. I had always figured that I would be buried in one of them. Most likely the car because it would require a smaller hole to be dug. However, the truck, a Dodge Ram 1500 Night Runner, is starting to really show its age, so I'm considering a new Dodge Ram or perhaps a Dodge Durango. Underscore considering, because I have not had a car payment for years and never want another one. I'm not sure that I want to take the cash out of the retirement funds to get new vehicle.
