  1. I currently bag Mizuno JPX-900 Hot Metals, but I keep my last set (Taylormade SLDR's) in the garage and use them to practice with on my simulator. I leave my primary clubs in my car, most of the time, so it's pretty much a convenience thing for me. I don't think I'll ever go back to the Taylormade SLDR's. The other nice thing about having a 'spare' set of clubs is I let my out of town guests borrow them when they drop in for a short visit. -- P.J.
  2. Several years ago, I stumbled across a product called "The Upright Caddy". In short, it's a push golf cart where the clubs sit straight up and down, similar to the way the sit in a golf cart. Absolutely loved it, I bought the original 3-wheel version, then the updated 4-wheel version. Upright Caddy was bought out and renamed to "Clever Caddie" a few years later. To make a long story short, when I recently moved - my wife mistakenly threw out some of the components - specifically the wheels from the 3-wheel version and the spare parts from the 4-wheel version. No biggy, right? I'm over-due for a new cart anyhow... Well, the company has apparently gone under. They used to sell the carts on RockBottomGolf.com, but it was seemingly as drop-shipment and they didn't actually have any in stock. Anyone know what happened to them? Or maybe someone who used to work there and knows of a secret stash? I've searched all over Google, eBay and Amazon with no luck. I've included a picture - really love this cart, too bad it never really caught on!! -- P.J.
  3. Just a follow-up....I also found a similar product to the "Club Caddy", it's called the "Handy Standy". It was originally available at www.handystandy.com from a company in England/Wales. There's a link to order it from Amazon, but it says 'out of stock'. Looks like this site may have gone dormant, but I was lucky enough to find one on eBay. -- P.J.
  4. I also picked up one of these for $5.99 each (+shipping). I was looking for something a little smaller to rest my clubs on when the grass is still wet. In short - the green repair tool is gold!! I used it for the first time today and wow, was I impressed. You spread the forks on both sides of the ball mark and squeeze it. It does a fantastic job of repairing the mark! Bonus is it keeps my grips dry too. Thanks for the link! -- P.J.
  5. This time of year in Florida, you have to play early in the morning - which means humidity and wet grass. If you miss the green and carry more than one club as you approach - it sure is nice to have something like this. Yes, you could use a towel, but even those get pretty wet quickly. I'm glad a suitable substitute was found!
  6. I just ordered this one! Thank you so much for the link! For those of you curious, $10 each, +$5 shipping. I'm happy to have one on the way! -- P.J.
  7. Several years ago, the Golf Channel held a contest for inventions related to golf. I think it was something "Fore Golf Inventors". Anyhow, the big winner was a product called "The Club Caddy". The Club Caddy clipped on to the bottom of your club, to hold your clubs upright when around wet greens (especially early in the morning) and kept your grips from getting wet. GolfSmith carried it and I bought one. Well, several weeks ago - I lost mine. I've been searching in vain for a replacement. Anyone know where one can be found?!? I've tried all the usual circuits to include eBay and Google. To give you some idea - here's what it looks like: Any one know where to get one?? Thanks, -- P.J.
  8. I have to say the Precept Laddie is a rock-ball that I can't stand to play....hard balls and no touch. I bought them because I got custom logo's on them pretty cheap - now I know why! -- P.J.
  9. I was wondering if you ever changed out the grip and if it affected your shot making? Curious if the smaller grip size by the manufacturer was intentional because they learned it was easier to hit chip-type shots with it?!? Good review...thanks for taking the time to do it. -- P.J.
  10. I bought my SkyTrak last year as well - head's up, the "Father's Day Sale" is open and they're currently offering $300 off the regular price. That's the deal I got last year and I've been very happy with the performance of this unit. I had some friends over, who were skeptical about the accuracy, so we set-up some Par 3 Contests. They all chose their clubs that they'd normally hit on the range. The distances were spot-on!! When you blade on, it shows...hit one fat, yep loss in yardage. If you know your game well enough and can tell from the feel when you slice or hook - then you know the SkyTrak gives you reliable feedback and shot flight indication. The early models had software issues, but the latest version (v3.1.1) are bug-free and accurate! If you're in the market for your own launch monitor, get one now! My profession is an Engineer and I never buy anything without doing thorough research. If you want all the stats, to include back and side-spin - and don't want to get out a small bank loan to put this together, then the SkyTrak is for you. -- P.J.
  11. I'm guessing you played Blue Water Bay. There's also Rocky Bayou, so guess it could be that one as well. I just moved there in March of this year and I'm still exploring all the courses - there are a bunch of quality places to play in that area - it's awesome! I play most of my rounds at Eglin AFB's course, it's open to the public. It's a fun track, with lots of challenges and holes with elevation changes (somewhat unique in Florida). Stay in touch, next time you're in the area - let me know. It'd be good to get in a round of golf with a MGS 'family' member! -- P.J.
  12. After watching the video on the putter technology, I've really got it in my head that I need to switch to one of the top tech putters. For me, I'm mostly interested in the the EVNROLL, Cleveland TFI 2135 or Ping Ketsch, I'll be keeping my eyes on eBay to try and pick a used one up at a deal. Time to stop using my putter for the way it looks, and focus on what gives me the best opportunity to put the ball in the hole! -- P.J.
  13. You can get the Speedblades for a great deal right now - full sets under $300. Here's another option you may want to consider. The TM RSi's and PSi's added the slots in the face that help with mishits. To be fair, the M2's have them too... If you're a new golfer, you'd probably benefit from that technology. Having said that, the RSi2's are a little older, yet still have that technology. You can find a deal for them on eBay pretty reasonable price (just saw some for $250 + $30 shipping). There are a lot of good choices out there, it would do you some benefit to get fit for the right shaft (regular, stiff, etc) and lie (up/down). If you don't want to go to a store and do it - there are a few places you can do it on-line. Not as beneficial, but certainly insightful - especially considering you swing is likely to change as you gain experience. Check out: https://www.taylormadegolfpreowned.com/custom/clubfitting.aspx http://www.wilson.com/en-us/golf/get-fit https://www.golfworks.com/online-custom-club-fitting/a/484/ There are plenty of others, you can google to find one you like - or to validate one site against another. Good luck! -- P.J.
  14. I also hit the forged JPX 900 tour irons, but the performance wasn't good enough for my misses. The hot metal, was hands down, superior - it wasn't even close (for me). If you haven't hit those yet - give them a shot. I hit them with the Project X LZ shafts in them - amazing!! -- P.J.
  15. Well, I pulled the trigger on the irons today. I ran through the clubs again on the launch monitor, did the custom fit thing and I have selected the Mizuno JPX 900's. The numbers and grouping was significantly better with the Mizuno's vs Ping G Series vs TaylorMade M2's. I did the custom fitting thing too...added 1/4" and 2* upright. We'll see how it goes...but I'm excited. It'll be a week+ till they arrive, and sadly - I'll be on business travel. There's a little buyer's remorse, because it's a lot of cash for them - but if the store experience translates to the course, I'll be elated! -- P.J.
  16. I've got a new set of irons on the brain! I'm traveling a lot these days, so thinking I'll leave a set in Virginia - to avoid having them damaged during shipping... So, I currently have the TaylorMade SLDR's, but thinking of either the TaylorMade RSI2's (because I can get them for a steal), or Ping G-Series or the latest is the Mizuno JPX-900 Hot Metal with the Project X LZ 5.5 shafts. What to do, what to do...Ping & Mizuno are hard to find good deals on. I typically stay a model or two years behind the trend to get the best value. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a deal, maybe pick up a set on 2nd Swing, Global Golf or eBay. After all the hype, I was anxious to hit the Callaway Epic Driver. My impressions was...meh! It's ok, nothing that made me go 'OMG - I have to have this'! Not that I was really 'shopping' for a driver, but I was definitely curious. Curiosity satisfied, my wallet is happy with the results. -- P.J.
