  1. This is the other thing that concerns me a bit about the TRUE.
  2. I've looked at Ecco off and on over the years and never could settle on a pair I liked. I just looked up the BIOM Hybrid 3GTX which looks quite good (in the white/black colorway). Anything I could easily wear to and from the course is a plus so these will definitely be in the running.
  3. I've owned Adidas in the past (in fact I played most of my soccer as a kid sporting Adidas) and they were quite comfortable. The major issue I had with them is that the lower portion of the sole started to separate from the mid-sole (a result of how my feet work on the downswing). I'll definitely have to give them a look again though as I honestly had kinda started to forget about Adidas for whatever reason. Saw several intriguing models on RockBottomGolf. Thanks for the insight.
  4. I'll try to keep this short and simple. Looking for recommendations on a new golf shoe. I currently own a pair of FJ Freestyles and a pair of cheap Pumas. Neither are comfortable for me to walk in. The Pumas don't have enough cushion to be comfortable for 18 holes and they aren't waterproof (water-resistant for you special people). The FJ's no longer keep water out and something about them causes pain in my big toe on my right foot. Anyway, I'm looking for something that will be comfortable for 18 or even 36 holes and does a good job keeping water out. Spiked or spikeless doesn't really matter. Just looking for a good comfortable shoe. The best shoe I had previously was the FJ GreenJoys from a couple years ago. Anything like that would be great! I have seriously been eyeing the TRUE Original, but I'm worried about the wide toe box - their description says up to EEE for that section of the shoe. I'm worried that would allow too much movement for my foot. For reference, I'm perfectly suited to a US Men's 10.5 D... Thanks!
  5. Watched a video on YouTube yesterday put out by the guys at Golficity. Near the end of the video they got to test the Finn Cycle and while they were certainly having fun, they weren't being crazy and I'm honestly not quite sure how you could get too crazy on those things after watching it. I think the biggest risk would be dumping the bike - especially if it occurred in the middle of the fairway or near a green or something.
  6. I listened to that NLU podcast and thought that would make a good goal. I had forgot about it though so I'm glad you mentioned it.
  7. I'm not new, but since the introduction forum has been split by region, I thought I'd go ahead and do a second intro. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I have been playing golf off and on since I was roughly 10 years old, but I finally jumped in with both feet around 25. I turn 32 in April so about 7 years of golf as my main hobby. Current handicap is 10.6 with an average score of 84.8. What do you love about golf? What I love about golf is the challenge, the scenery, and the opportunity to slow down and debrief from the daily grind. I like to walk 18 in the early morning and take in the surroundings. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I've been on a few other forums in the past, but MGS is home primarily because of the way everyone treats each other here. I have yet to see anyone really making fun of anyone else or trying to make them feel stupid on a particular matter. It doesn't mean we all agree on everything (or anything), but discussions are generally open-minded and civil. I've had great conversations with plenty of other spies, but I don't know anyone here personally. Where are you from? What is your home course? I currently live in Joplin, Missouri. I was born in Baton Rouge, LA, did a 2 year "stint" in Austin, TX when my family moved there in '95. Had the opportunity of a lifetime to go live in Hamilton, New Zealand for another 2 years after that (because of my dad's job). Finally, settled in Joplin in '99 - where my dad and much of his family are from originally. My home course is the Carthage Municipal Golf Course located in Carthage, MO (www.carthagegolfcourse.com). What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best thing about golf around here is that it's fairly inexpensive and there are plenty of public courses around to play at. Worst thing is definitely the winter weather for me. I have eczema so anything much colder than 50 degrees outside and my hands start to split open which is incredibly painful. What do you do for a living? Currently, I work as a trainer for a local manufacturing company . We produce a variety of batteries for commercial, medical, space, and military uses. How’d you pick your user name? There's nothing fun or incredibly exciting about the story behind my username. It's a twist on the word "triptych" which is the name of my favorite album by my favorite band - Demon Hunter. Triptych simply means a set of three associated artistic, literary, or musical works (it was DH's 3rd album). Anyway, when I was younger and playing video games I adapted the word to "TR1PTIK" after discovering someone else was already using "Triptych" as their gamer tag. That's me in a nutshell as it pertains to MGS. Welcome to all the new spies.
  8. Yeah, I don't think keto would quite work for me. Bread and potatoes are life! LOL I do agree about the pizza. Even though I still can eat it, it's not a food I enjoy as much as I used to since I've tried to eat healthier foods over the past few years. While not low enough to be considered keto, I did lower my carb intake to 20%. Protein and fat are set at 50% and 30% respectively (at least for this week). Meal prep has been difficult of late so I opted to piece together a one-week meal plan using recipes from The Shredded Chef cookbook. It cost a little more money to do it this way, but it was easy to draw up a plan and carve out time to follow the instructions for the recipes. I fully intend to develop my own plan from scratch this week so I have something a little more cost-effective and better suited to my personal tastes.
  9. Sorry I haven't been checking in. Last week was kind of rough generally speaking, but that's all over. Work outs have still been hit and miss unfortunately, but the diet seems to be doing the trick. After my discussion with @chemclub, I made a few more adjustments and am already seeing improvements. Currently down 3lbs from a week ago. My weight fluctuates quite a bit though so it may not settle there unless I step up on the exercise. My reading goals are still on track for the year at least. I've really enjoyed tackling this goal so far. I just finished my fourth book - Extreme Ownership - and I'm really excited for the 5th - Dichotomy of Leadership. Both were written by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin for anyone unfamiliar. Well worth the read in my opinion.
  10. I see a lot of cons to this approach - loss of revenue primarily - but this could very well be what it takes to force people to change.
  11. I've had to play through groups (riding) while walking with a push cart. We're not all slow - though some certainly are.
  12. I work in the battery business and battery technology has definitely improved in the past 6 years - both in terms of cost and in performance.
  13. A lot of courses have lease agreements for their carts. I would think this is pretty common practice as it's far more cost effective than purchasing carts, and having to maintain and replace them outright. I know a lot of people seem to be taking a pretty strong stance against the removal of two-seater carts and the way MGS articles have approached it don't seem to help. That is to say, everyone makes it sound like this is supposed to be some overnight switch and it simply can't/won't work that way. Odds are we may never see the day when two-seaters no longer exist. I do think there is a definite place for them. However, I don't think the social aspect is a particularly strong argument. Sure, I converse with my buddies when we share the same cart, but we also have plenty of conversation on the tee box, on the green, when we have to wait for a slower group, and any time in-between that allows for chit-chat. Not a huge deal in my mind. I think the best argument that has been made is the cart path only argument suggest by @DaveP043. That's the only time I see a true disadvantage of a one-person cart. And speaking of wet conditions, weather is certainly a factor, but not one that can't be overcome. Besides, how much does the average cart really protect you from the elements other than offering shade in the summer? Cart covers are an add-on accessory and would likely be something offered for one-person carts as well. I don't know. I see both side, but I'm definitely leaning toward single golfer carts. Someone commented on the article about the OneWheel and it's definitely piqued my interest more than anything else. It wouldn't be for everyone, but a modified version that offers more stability and traction in wet grass (apparently that's an issue from the research I've done) could be a relatively low cost solution for those who see value in it. BTW, I do mean relative cost - $1200+ is still a lot of money to spend on what basically amounts to a motorized skateboard, but is much cheaper than the average cart.
  14. I haven't heard of that one before so I'll definitely look it up. Thanks!
  15. Thanks for the info. I have MFP on my phone and have used it in the past, but always curious to see if there's something else out there worth looking at. The one issue I have with MFP is that there is a lot of duplication of foods, but then the nutritional information can vary (sometimes greatly). I'm not just talking brands of certain foods like breakfast sausage where they could use different ingredients or something. I'm talking like differences between a banana and another banana lol. It's a pretty minor gripe, but it always raises the question in my mind of which is more accurate. Also, the unit of measure varies sometimes and I'll have to dig through and find something that matches what I have - e.g. I measure in grams, and MFP only gives nutritional values for 1/3 cup. It just creates a lot of work if you want to have some level of accuracy. Maybe I'm just too much of perfectionist about it - I'm working on that though.
  16. I appreciate the mention @chemclub. I know a lot of people forget or underestimate how important nutrition is to achieving their fitness goals. Looks like you're well aware of what your needs are as well and I wish you the best of luck. Not to imply or suggest in anyway that keto is a bad move, but I would caution you a bit on it simply because keto can be brutal mentally. It's not easy to go super low carb like that and I've seen plenty of people fail only to quickly regain the weight after reintroducing carbs to their diet. It is true though, if you want to lose weight you need to up your fat intake and knock down the carbs. Now that I'm talking about it, I may go ahead and adjust my macros just a bit more - especially after going back through some of the articles that helped me achieve my goals in the past. Here are two that may help for anyone unfamiliar: https://www.bodybuilding.com/content/macro-math-3-keys-to-dialing-in-your-macro-ratios.html https://www.bodybuilding.com/content/ask-the-ripped-dude-magical-macronutrient-ratio-for-fat-loss.html I'll have to figure out a way to share my spreadsheet for those who are interested. It makes it easier to get the most out of all of this - or at least it does for me.
  17. I think I've mentioned the need to meal prep a few times, but for the most part my MEALS aren't horrible. Lots of baked chicken, sweet potatoes and broccoli, along with other veggies and some fruit. However, I have developed a few bad habits which is why I've been working on increasing my water intake and eliminating pop from my diet. I've also eliminated sweets while at work (sweets aren't really an issue at home - but I've developed a habit of munching on candy to help me stay upright at my desk). Aside from that, I do need to get better about tracking caloric intake and making sure it lines up with current goals. I put together an Excel spreadsheet years ago that makes this part fairly easy, I just have to make the time to ensure my meals actually line up with said goals. These goals are based on a BMR of 2170 kcal which I got by averaging the results of the Harris Benedict and Katch-McArdle Equations. I then did a bunch of research on "optimal" macros for weight loss. I put quotation marks around the word optimal because there really is no such thing for every person, but it gives me a good starting point. I could arguably adjust the activity multiplier down to 1.2 which would reduce my total caloric intake to just shy of 2100 kcal, but not sure if that would be appropriate or not since I do plan on adding exercise. For those that are unfamiliar, that multiplier works as follows: 1.2 = Sedentary 1.375 = Lightly Active 1.55 = Moderately Active 1.725 = Very Active 1.9 = Extremely Active Here's a link that offers up a little more detail - https://www.k-state.edu/paccats/Contents/PA/PDF/Physical Activity and Controlling Weight.pdf. My research on the topic of weight loss (and specifically how to apply these calculations) make note that these formulas often produce a number which is higher than what your body actually needs. The estimation of caloric intake based on kcal per lb of body weight as mentioned in the link above is even worse. Using that method, I "could" consume nearly 2900 kcal per day and still lose weight. That would be the same as using an activity multiplier of 1.725 which generally applies to collegiate level and professional athletes - relatively few people could classify as "Extremely Active". Your average gym rat would likely only use a multiplier of 1.55.
  18. Thanks for the tip. I'll have to read up on the pickle juice tip. There'd have to be a lot of benefit to it for me tackle that one lol - I don't really like pickles.
  19. I haven't made much progress with my exercises, but I've done okay on my diet (for the most part). I need to get my meal prepping under control so I can manage caloric intake better. I'm curious what apps other members are using to track calories with. The obvious choice is My Fitness Pal, but I'm curious to hear if anyone is using something different. ??? Workout scheduled for tonight. Time to really get after it and make some meaningful progress towards my goals.
  20. Well I haven't had the best start to my fitness journey - not even close. I failed to get any workouts beyond some stretching and foam rolling done after my leg decided to retaliate against me - though I did eat a few bananas and drink more water . However, the wild change in temperature enabled me to play golf for the first time this year on Friday and I walked the front nine. My legs and feet were very sore afterwards, but it was worth it to get out on a nice day. There was a lot of rust to shake off having not been on a course since October/November, but I managed a handful of quality shots and made some excellent recoveries. Unfortunately, my bad shots were really bad and I wound up shooting 93 - multiple doubles and a triple . On the plus side of everything, I've done well to up my water intake while staying away from soft drinks and my reading goals are on track. I finished Every Shot Counts on Friday and started reading Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin. I read this last year and enjoyed it, so I wanted to read it again before jumping into their new book The Dichotomy of Leadership. Jocko's writing and podcasts are always a good motivator for me to get off my butt and do something so I plan on working out tonight and then at least two more this week mixed in with plenty of stretching and foam rolling.
  21. I've only been to one guy and it was to do a bag analysis and get loft and lie adjusted. He was recommended by the PGA Professional at my home course. He does a great job, is a good player, and has a good range of club heads and shafts from a variety of manufacturers. When I worked with him, he was very informative, friendly, and honest. He normally charges $125 for that service, but we went through the bag so quickly and he didn't have to make too many adjustments so he only charged me $75. I will likely go to him again for the same thing and he'll be at the top of my list should I ever have money for a whole new set. The only issue I have with his current setup is that I can't hit off grass or see ball flight. It's just a mat and net. When we got to the driver last time I was in there it said I was only getting the ball 45 FEET in the air and only carrying 211 yards (the same as my 3-wood on that particular day). I've never had trouble getting the ball in the air like that and as soon as I left I had a brief conversation with my course pro before putting all the settings back to the way I had them previously.
  22. I feel like I want to make the switch to Evnroll so bad, but I've got to be able to demo one first and no one in my area has them. In fact, I've not yet seen one in person anywhere... I believe their groove tech works - it certainly makes logical sense and MGS backs it up - but if I can't demo one against my gamer (which works great for me) then I doubt I'll drop the $$$ on one. The only reason I have a Scotty in my bag is because I was able to borrow the pro shop's demo every round I played for nearly a month. After you see enough putts drop, you don't too much question cost or brand loyalty or anything else. You just fork over the money!!! LOL
  23. I've never gamed Taylormade anything and I'm not sure I've ever even tested their putters, but I will say I like the shaping of the Spider X. What they've done to slim it down is much more appealing to me than previous iterations. What's not appealing though are the colors. I don't care for their alignment system either.
  24. Both do help. I'm not a huge fan of bananas, but I will eat them on occasion (if there's still one left after my son has eaten his share lol). I also try to drink water as often as I can, but have recently set a goal to drink a gallon a day minimum. I've also had trouble with my legs though - muscle cramps and easy shin splints. It's probably a combination of multiple things including what you've mentioned. I'm hopeful getting my health back on track will remedy the issue.
  25. I have to agree with everything you said. At this point I've redone my entire bag 3 or 4 times buying and selling on eBay with very few issues if any. I've also purchased sets from Global Golf and highly recommend them. The firs set of used irons I ever bought from them were rated "very good" and could have been mint as far as I was concerned. I've also made a few purchases through 2nd Swing. They do have good stuff, but I feel like their prices can be a bit high sometimes. You have to really sort through their stock to find the best deal.
