  1. 2-4 Hybrid are clubs below driver for me and sometimes I also drop the 2H leaving a 19* 3H as my club after driver. I tried to make a 5W work this season and it started off well, but if my swing isn't at it's best my misses are worse with a wood versus hybrid. As someone who's primary shape is a fade with longer clubs, the draw bias of hybrids also helps to minimize my faults even compared to using the maximum draw settings on a fairway wood. My 3H is 230-240 off the tee and up to 250 on best strikes. About 10-20 yards less off the ground and any approach shot longer than this is probably not something I should be taking on at my skill level anyway.
  2. Lip out from the bunker with the 60... And another sand shot executed exactly how I wanted. But 1 shot from each of 40 & 50 yards lost me strokes today though after leaving both short. Given my lack of self control, I will definitely need to leave the 60 in the trunk if I am ever going to try and play without it.
  3. You can't completely shut down weight training, you need to determine a level of lifting for maintenance (likely 1-2x per week). Otherwise even if you do gain speed through better technique, sequencing, or the development and recruitment of fast twitch muscle fibres you will be losing strength to impart maximum force on the golf club. This will eventually cap your speed or drop it and the loss of physical conditioning will make it more likely to incur injury.
  4. Appreciate it. The 20/30/45/60 drill is so engrained as my warmup now that it is frustrating when the practice green is crowded or too small to hit the 60 footers as I will inevitably have a few from deep since I hit a higher amount of GIR for my index. Or if for whatever reason I am rushing or want to skip it, I usually end up regretting it. You encounter these distances so often while playing that having the feels or benchmarks in your backswing length will automatically give you confidence over time. I used 20-30-40-50 and sometimes 60 but wanted to reduce it to 4 balls as I set them all up in a line at one time and didn't want to carry so many. So I decided to split the distance as you get farther away because I often get 60 footers and need that benchmark.
  5. Played a quick 9 at a familiar course to try and sharpen up my tee shots prior to a big golf trip in 2 weeks and work on my new CBX 119 16 deg hybrid (which is a bomber). I intended to avoid using the 60 but ended up facing 30 (from trees/fescue), 40 (rough), and 50 (fairway) yard shots over bunkers into the greens. Overall, the 60 performed excellent from these various lies/distances as I executed each shot as I imagined but chose improper landing areas. This gave me more confidence using the 60 moving forward and it will likely be a course specific choice whether I carry the 60 or replace it with a longer club. I do think the 60 is more of a specialty club for these types of situations and looking to use the 56 when close to the green is the better play.
  6. I am going to try and get a few swings filmed on course to see if there are differences while playing that reflect the change in ball flight versus practicing indoors or outside. Working with my instructor indoor on trackman and camera, he was very happy with my position at top of backswing and felt it was probably the best in our 2+ years of working together.
  7. I don't know exactly what classifies as "yips" with the big stick. But I think I am displaying some symptoms... Swing speed is 100-105 on course. Regularly get up to 107 on monitors indoors. I have been hitting low pulls and wipey fades over the past month that are well below normal ball flight usually in the 200-220 window. Tried some speed training drills into net in garage and reached 163 MPH ball speed which is 2 MPH below my all time high, so the speed is still there... Went in for a lesson, adjusted grip weaker and ball position forward to how I started the season when hitting well and was hitting normal carry distances around 250-260. Had range session later in the week, experimented with shorter shaft in driver and compared accuracy to gamer. Was routinely carrying 240ish with range balls bouncing into net at 250 with high fade and measured accuracy to determine proper start lines to accommodate fade based on drills in Adam Young's Accuracy Plan and try to hone aiming for tee shots. Warmed up for most recent round and was hitting normal fade shape on range, a bit lower than usual but cannot adjust tee height on mats. Course is short, tight, and tree lined so really only needed driver once and 200 yard low pull that clipped a branch. It feels to me like I am not releasing the club on course, shifting toward target on downswing and trapping it with my standard out to in path after having a period of huge slices earlier in the year. Has anyone had similar issues? What were some keys or swing thoughts you used to really go after the ball?
  8. Wait until next season, start watching the callawaypreowned website (provided you chose one of the no-upcharge shafts) and then wait for a holiday or one of the majors when they run your sale. Should be able to get a 15-20% discount off the used price and get it for somewhere between 50-75% of what they sell for now.
  9. SMALL SAMPLE SIZE ALERT: I still only have 4 rounds logged in Shot Scope with these wedges at 3 different courses (2 of which I never played before). 1 round I did not use the 60 and gained 2.5 shots in short game vs my index. The other 3 I lost an average of 0.7 shots, but these rounds were all on newer courses with tougher pins and green complexes comparitively. There is also some bias in those numbers as the 60 is usually reserved for short sided situations and greenside bunkers where I want maximum height and stopping power over the 56. During the round I only used the 56 I was also in less trouble and 1 of the weaknesses of strokes gained is not differentiating for short sided and severe slopes greenside. The 60 has been my go to for greenside bunker shots due to the wider sole even with lower bounce after some initial success with it in practice and rounds that I was unable to track. But I should experiment with the 56 more. This is something I will look to try in the future as I get a couple last rounds in before some big golf trips starting at the end of September.
  10. Initial on course review after 4 rounds: Improved SG Short Game (<50 yd) by +1.0 SG exactly. Up/down improved to 28% from 26% (while losing 1.2 strokes putting which hurts the up/down rate) Improved SG Approach by +1.47 SG from 50-150 yards (and 0.79 SG from 50-100 - these wedges only used up to about 110...) - These 2 distances were a priority for improvement this season as the main approach distances I lose strokes vs a 5 index. I am now +0.17SG from 50-150 vs -1.3 SG since the change which is giving me plenty to think about in staying with a 5 wedge setup. Especially since GIR is up 5% in this range vs season average while playing new courses at the Wilderness Club in Montana and Indian Springs Ranch with tucked pins after club championship. Sand play has been hit and miss, some really good shots were offset by a greenside skull OB. I need more data to see if the 60 is justified for limited greenside rough and bunker work vs another club at top of the bag. Suffice it to say, there is little risk in these not being gamed after gaining 1.8 shots inside 100 yards since the transition. I was unable to log 3 rounds during this time due to technical issues or would have nearly double the data. It will be interesting to see if these numbers regress with less practice time spent learning the carry distances and behavior around the green.
  11. Getting through the rough is generally not an issue as I am usually opening the face more than usual given the tendency for me to grip the wedges with the face shut. I initially ran into issues with the 60 in my backyard taking divots in long grass which is rare for me as a picker. The low bounce on the 60 is not very forgiving for full shots, so I stopped that experiment after 2-3 attempts on course and usually being more comfortable with a partial swing on lower lofted wedge. I have to be more careful on fringe and fairway lies to ensure I am opening it to take away any tendency to dig.
  12. Slow start to 6 rounds of on course testing... First round was in a river valley with poor satellite coverage and could not use shot scope. 2nd round I forgot Shot Scope at home. But I did get up and down 5 times, 4x with the 56 and 1x with the 52. I play the next 4 days in a row in Montana, hopefully my data collection goes better there. The 60 degree is generally reminding me why I switched to a 58 to leave less shots short. I have experimented with full shots from the fairway and at a grass range and struggled with the low bounce digging if my contact isn't perfect. This is not a shot I play with my most lofted wedge regardless but wanted to see if the wider sole offset some bounce. I also got it hung up in the catchy rough on a 40 yard shot from behind the green. So it has been neutral to losing strokes thus far. It is phenomenal out of the sand however. Not sure I can justify keeping 1 club for greenside sand shots which don't occur every round. The 56 is FLX-ible enough to open a fair bit around the green from the rough to get loft under the ball. Having 5 wedges really limits options at the top end of the bag where I like to keep a driving iron along with my hybrids as I am directionally challenged and often play in the wind on firm conditions. The 56 is going to need a trial in the bunkers to see if it can fit that need and make the 60 redundant.
  13. Jailbirds are SO July! We are on to LAB broomsticks now! Try and keep up.
  14. The Putting tool is another big benefit of this system vs others. The level of detail (putt distance, break direction, miss tendencies for speed and direction) and ability to compare multiple putters is simple to use and full of useful information that is easy to forget or miss. It's also a good way to gamify your putting practice with no thought or planning while also applying some pressure to grind out 2 putts. Similar to the speed training, setting personal bests for 1 putts, feet of putts made and strokes gained is rewarding vs just logging data.
  15. Realized I left this thread hanging... The 100 score in the bottom right was my total after a 10 ball approach session (40-100yards) on my launch monitor. This was my second set ever using the Indi wedges, first set was warmup walking into the garage. I hit 2 balls on the number for a bonus point and max score of 11 points on the shot. 2 years ago I hit a 101 using my set GW so this is my second highest score ever and best since 2021. I hit a couple balls thin and fat and they still ended up in the neighbourhood which aligns with what I've seen on the course so far and seems to be the greatest strength. I am coming to appreciate the wide sole on the 60 LW with 8 bounce out of the rough greenside. It minimizes the risk of sliding right under the ball and leaving it short of the green and a few experiments playing it square from the sand worked well. 2 more chip ins practicing short game last night and round 2 on course testing is this afternoon along with 6 rounds in the next 10 days after which I should have some good proximity data in Shot Scope to compare with my initial review.
  16. Great analysis, for me the clubs want to sit closed when a take my grip. Not sure whether it is due to the grip type, sole or some other factor. They are within 1/4" length or 0.5 lie of my previous wedges, so it isn't due to build specs. With the full face grooves you also don't have the vertical lines running up the club face to help with alignment. I have to make a very conscious effort to ensure they are setup square or slightly open at address.
  17. Can you describe your pre-shot routine and/or current swing thought (if you have one) from the time you address the ball until impact?
  18. This testing is helpful to dial in driver numbers primarily and to a lesser extent, your 7 iron to short list some balls. But you still miss all of the aerodynamic performance of the cover (headwind/downwind, height, actual rollout) The spin is going to be different (likely lower) indoors than off grass and the turf interaction will be different which also affects the launch and spin numbers. Most of the wedge considerations would be around partial shots, greenside shots from the rough and other chips to gauge stopping power. All full wedge swings off a clean lie will have adequate spin to stop and be fairly similar in direction. Comparing 2 shots with the chromesoft on 7 iron is really going to skew your dispersion and standard deviation results vs using 3 or 4 shots with the other balls. This is a good trick when fitters are trying to get you into a new driver... Having the sample 1 shot smaller is always going to help the numbers when removing the bad ones. But $20 to get driver numbers is worthwhile as a check on attack angle, path and face direction as well as ball speed to know if you should favor a higher spin or low spin ball. Everything else requires testing on course or outdoor practice facility.
  19. I've struggled to aim the putter properly this year with my Edel blade and have been on the hunt for a mallet with longer alignment lines. I was able to get a stroke lab tuttle and cash in exchange for my Evnroll 2.2 I no longer user. Had my best night ever on the Stack putting app last night. If I can't aim this thing, then it's time for a lesson!
  20. Digging a bit further into the numbers from first time on course in terms of SG approach and short game versus a 5 index (-1.49 SG short game on season Indi 52 - SG total= -0.45 (a fatted fairway bunker shot accounted for -0.63 of this total) Eliminating the 1 fairway bunker shot was SG total of +0.18 on 3 approach shots of 105 yards (+0.06/shot) 50-100 yard approaches are my weakest distance, followed by 100-150 yards on the season where I lose strokes relative to a 5 index vs gaining strokes from 150+. I feel these wedges could drive improvement in this area. Indi 56 - SG total = 1.91 (12 shots, +0.16 SG/shot) 2 greenside sand shots --> -0.02 total (-0.01/shot), rest of season = -0.71/shot No need to use 60* in this round and I'm still scared to use other than short sided due to the wide sole. As part of this testing I may reconsider my bag setup to end at 56 given the success I am having with that club and the ability to open the face more with the narrow sole. The numbers above come after 2 practice sessions and the first time on a course I have not played in 2 years. I usually putt from the fringe, but the grass was longer than most fairways and 2-3 yards wide in many areas. After leaving 2 putts woefully short, I pivoted to chipping with 56 and gained 2.05 strokes over 3 shots on the back 9. If these wedges can continue to boost the weakest aspect of my game (short game <50 yards) and weakest approach distances with full and partial wedges, I expect to see some low scores when the rest of my ball striking reverts to the mean.
  21. First day on course… Distance on fat and thin strikes is very consistent and likely the greatest strength of these wedges. Could not verify any additional spin. Chipped in for birdie from fringe with 56 and got up and down with it 2 more times from the fringe. Very impressed with the lack of learning curve on these despite all different lofts. gained nearly 2 strokes vs 5 index short game first time out.
  22. Testing continues with a first today. Updates to follow… These are definitely getting bagged soon
  23. Initial impressions and start of off-course testing is up!
