  1. It's Western NY, our vehicles rarely last that long due to road salt spread liberally on the roads to make "normal" life possible regardless of temperature and precipitation when freezing conditions are present. Continuous salt baths are no different than driving a 4WD down the ocean beach and it is too cold to hose it all off every day from windows to frame. Local car washes are so popular we have a chain that have memberships with privileges and lines of vehicles anytime the temp rises. So the impressive part is it was the original battery with the 2014 Equinox including convenience package so lots of electronics that keep the battery cycling its charge. Previous vehicles did not suffer from needing a battery replacement dating all the way back to the last battery I remember purchasing for a 1978 Volare station wagon which was my 3rd of 10 vehicles I have driven and also for 8 of wife's vehicles. If any of those were replaced without my knowledge during my deployments overseas or stateside I would probably not know as she totaled one (thankfully no injuries) and traded in another while I was away of military duty, so replacement of whatever and not being informed would not surprise me considering the information gaps that are occasionally discovered that are always passed off as "you weren't there." So a correct statement would be , "I have not replaced a vehicle battery myself and been aware of the cost of doing so in 20 years."
  2. Good morning MGSpies from slept in but needed it in (yes Chuck @cksurfdude it's 32 here) WNY from a second day of food coma thanks to Thanksgiving leftovers. Good thing we are going to celebrate son's birthday with a restaurant dinner late this afternoon on the waterfront! Had to replace the vehicle battery yesterday after it failed to start the vehicle after the Turkey Trot downtown on Thursday and experienced sticker shock, haven't bought one in easily 20 years - that is a car payment but the design is so much better. Relived the joy of vehicle maintenance with lazy snowflakes providing a seasonal ambiance and forgot how cold hands work not so well. Still waiting to see what assignments come my way so will keep the focus golf and all things fun until then! Oh yes dear, gotta go... And hope golf is a part of your day!
  3. Good morning MGSpies while it is still morning here on the Post Thanksgiving Day review AKA Black Friday hoping both shoppers and retailers achieve their goals for the event. Late post and later than Robert @rkj427 due to working the day when most of the office took the day for whatever, always enjoying the quiet both in terms of people about and associated workload that goes with them mostly absent. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving directly or vicariously from afar as we gladly share the togetherness with everyone worldwide as is the fundamental nature of giving thanks on that one day of the year (that tends to continue throughout the year). Always enjoy reading your posts @Dead Solid Bogey as you have a way to capture so much that we have in common, my hat is off to your composition and humorous way of taking us along with you, now to Florida where I hope you find the clearer waters that makes negotiating matrimony's treacherous waters survivable. Hope that golf is a part of everyone's day!
  4. Good morning MGSpies from a not too cold WNY on Thanksgiving morning getting ready for the 128th running of the Turkey Trot from Kenmore down into Buffalo Thursday. Will edit the post later once I have a photo to share but others may run it (like my son who likely will go to better previous times) and I am going to walk briskly in my best practiced Ready Golf pace, and once you see the photo you will understand why I mention that part. Many who are not serious runners/participants do so with a theme or costume. Enough said. And yes that is a canoe being portaged behind me, same guy, every year, 8km, makes a great hat I guess. Hope golf and good food is a part of your day (not sure what that is because it would be stretching it to call it a birdie, eagle or albatros )
  5. Good morning MGSpies from a wet and surprisingly warmer (meaning about 40F) here in WNY with temps not projected in the 30-40F range for the 14 day period, hot coffee to make the day start right on a zero commute Wednesday, Thanksgiving Eve. Son comes home today for the holiday weekend and all other plans are unbeknownst to me, I am sure I will be made aware when I need to know. Hope golf is a part of your day
  6. That is quite a day Jason. Important to note, no injuries sustained, no unrecoverable damage incurred, everything fell into place with time available. Obstacles and challenge, both managed and will be overcome. Lots of blessings there and impressive how you handled the day and captured it for our vicarious participation. I am glad to say that my day by comparison was uneventful and boring. Went to work, where there were no insurmountable issues. Stopped for a fillup on the way home and dropped off an envelope at the Post Office for need of postage then home, nothing significant to report. An errand run, Corgis fed their dinner, wife provided dinner, dishes washed, time to catch up on forum and online things, no comparable challenge or obstacle to yours my friend for which I am thankful as it is not always the case. My hope and wish for you is rest, recovery, and re-energizing for tomorrow and the coming days until tire is mounted. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family my friend
  7. Good morning MGSpies from dark cold downtown Buffalo enjoying an early start with coffee and Ryan Farish's Falling Star on Pandora for the get ready for greatness in the office today, rain later on taking the umbrella in with me. We will see what the afternoon has in store for fun, hope golf is a part of your day Wellness to everyone and Jaime @GolfSpy_APH hope your young one is well sooner than later but the togetherness is a lifetime memory builder
  8. Good morning MGSpies for the start of (US) Thanksgiving week in a frosty barely 20F clear sky morning in WNY with stars owning the sky. Had to restart the hot water heater as job No. 1 this morning before getting online and starting the work week from my zero commute basement command center curling yesterday was on pointe but my stones were usually missing an ideal shot by inches, there's next week for the next opportunity to place the shots better Sending out best wishes, thoughts and intentions for Jason @sirchunksalot and everyone else who has other than uneventful things going on in your lives. Also reminder to pay attention to being safe this holiday week as in the States it is the most traveled week of the year so extra care please in how you go and extra patience for others and reducing stress especially in self and those demonstrating their restraint is failing Forecast keeps improving for the 14 days ahead, snow off the predictions for this week in WNY again, how long will this ride last! Hope golf is a part of your day
  9. Good morning MGSpies from a snowless WNY this peacefully quiet Sunday, reminder of 9 years ago on my FB memories prompt that had to be shared as it was our 62" snowfall the week before Thanksgiving forever remembered in these parts as the Snowvember storm that took the town 5 days to get a front loader down our neighborhood streets to start connecting everyone's mostly shoveled driveways to the main roads, the video clip of me using a roof rake to knock 3 to 4 foot overhanging snow drifts off the upper roof onto the back patio. Curling at noon with the Vets then I suspect there will be gentle guidance from SWMBO on what needs to be done when I arrive home to help keep the afternoon from getting boring as though there is daylight available for 9 hole round I doubt I will have sufficient energy in reserve to play well after 8 ends on the ice Love hearing about the preparations for "family gatherings" this week, and hope golf is a part of your day
  10. Good morning MGSpies from slightly frosty but clear skies sunny WNY on this Saturday just after sunrise. Buying out the lease on our Trax as it's the only vehicle I know of my daughter actually looks forward to driving and thinking of as hers, which makes it easier to help her get into owning her own vehicle. Would be perfect for a late autumn golf round but no idea how soon this car deal will finish today. And there's no doubt going to be 'surprise' things to do now the Thanksgiving house designated for this year's family gathering has an uninvited visitor with a positive COVID test there early yesterday so again the holidays involve this scourge to society... Hope golf is a part of your day
  11. Good morning MGSpies from a warmish waiting on the arrival of a cold front that should push out the last of the 50s-60s weather for 2023 in WNY this Friday noontime. In the midst of buying out our lease vehicle with daughter taking it on as her vehicle which with other commitments will push golf out of the lineup for this weekend. Hope everyone is gearing up for what in reality is the biggest holiday of the year in the US next week, looking forward to sharing everyone's experiences as we make it to the other side of next weekend, hope golf is a part of your day
  12. Sounds like a lot of MGSpies in my situation, for me it was turning a yard full of leaves into looking like a green well manicured lawn using just a mulching lawn mower. No sooner had I logged in and started to listen giving a view of the yard and sunset then I was needed in the house, still was good to see good friends even if for a short visit. Next week is US Thanksgiving on Thursday, now that will be an interesting time to have a call if everyone is able to give a cameo view of what we are doing during Community Call hour where we each happen to be
  13. Good morning MGSpies from a warmer autumn in WNY than it seems we have had in many years with plans to again cut the grass and mulch the remaining leaves into the turf Community Call Thursday, so will have to see how the timing of everything is going to work and by all accounts attendance may be fluid for more people than me this afternoon with sunset now before 5pm coffee is going down easy with work already heating up the network. Last night's presentation to the WNY PGA REACH Trustees was positive and affirming and the kind of meeting everyone likes to be part of, and just as it should be centered on our favorite sport. Hope golf is a part of your day and the community call counts! Sending positive energy and intentions of support and comfort for everyone in their time of need
  14. Speed of play is a huge concern when it goes slowly so most players don't want to be "that guy" and we look for ways to save time, like choosing which club on the way to the ball and having it in hand ready to use before getting to the ball, playing with eyes open and watching where people are to be safe and considerate (yes sometimes people get too eager and get in front of others but it is usually a mistake), and not standing on any ceremony with who hits next, just who is ready and then be ready as soon as possible for your turn, sometimes having to wait because everybody is ready! I'm often first to the tee box with ball and tee in hand unless everyone else is hitting from the longer tees, and when I get there I am ready to plant the tee, make sure the Sharpie ink isn't facing the clubface, and go through my short and regular routine that often has the ball downrange before anyone else is ready to tee their ball. It's like knowing how to dance and anticipating what is next, and just like dancing, Ready Golf keeps us from stepping on toes and being "that guy."
  15. Good morning MGSpies from an almost 40F on the outside thermometer but the vehicles are frosting over Wednesday in WNY due to 0% cloud cover computer not sure it wants to connect to the network either and coffee has to wait until I can go upstairs to get it oh yay! only 2 restarts and 11 attempts to connect Golf this evening will be another speaking engagement for the WNY PGA REACH Foundation meeting and looking forward to that HOPE golf is a part of my day and hope golf is a part of your day too! (see what I did there?)
  16. I was a glove on guy. It lasted until the end of the Red Rooster Sussex glove testing in May. I forgot the newer glove and had the older glove so put on the old worn glove for the round. By the middle of the round I had a rash on the back of my glove hand and the glove had to come off. It was golf so I kept playing sans glove. The rash took weeks to clear. Color me into the No Glove camp (SURPRISE!) for any club including Putter. 126 rounds this year (so far) and 96 rounds without glove. It is my new normal
  17. Good morning MGSpies from dark chilly downtown where MGS Forum and soon to be sipped coffee is serenaded listening to Friend by Blackmill on Pandora so many posting as I'm single letter typing on my phone ! Great news from @Shankster and @GolfSpy_APH and very glad to be amongst the company of everyone on the Forum this morning and all day. Evening comes so early these days robbing us of 9 holes after work, hope golf is a part of your day
  18. Good morning MGSpies from a not frosty but it was below 30 before bedtime last night WNY on this Monday zero commute day computer already online and enabling greatness in the employee finance world hot coffee making the world perfect regardless of anything else going on. The Monday Curling report is not as good as last week, no stones scored as throws were short, long or still inbounds but wide Weather is holding on for the possibility of golf this week in these here parts, also considering what outside jobs can be done in the cool dry sunshine with rain due Thursday overnight. Hope golf is a part of your day
  19. Good morning MGSpies on a sunny frosty cold WNY Sunday, hot tea in the mug this day and curling at noon with fellow Vets. Remembered to put on the Josh Allen shirt today to match what more than half of them wear at the club. Yesterday was the most fun Veterans Day round of golf I can remember joined by my great friend John who brought along two others who quickly became preferred friends too. Partly sunny conditions that walking made not too bad at all. The last 3 holes played as carts vs carry, as Kyle and I were pushing our clubs while John and Tyler were carrying. This C130 flyover happened at the 18th tee box. It ended with a bonafide steal by the Vet (rightly they said) with Diver, duffed 3 hybrid, amazing 3 hybrid, and 9i chip in from 30 yards. I never put music on while playing, but it was a 4th hole to break the 3 hole tied up matchplay and someone said we were all on the tee box together, and a favorite from the 90s came to mind and had to be shared, maybe it had something to do with all 4 shots as I left it to play for my closer tee box drive and the rest of the hole too...
  20. Date 11/11/2023 Course Name Hyde Park Golf Course Gross Score 94 Course Handicap 20 Gross Strokes over/under par 24 Net Score to Par 4 Net Score 74 Net Birdies or better 4 Longest Drive 154
  21. Good morning MGSpies on a cold but not rainy WNY Saturday, breakfast in progress and coffee brewing to be ready for 9:30 tee time at Hyde Park GC in Niagara Falls with an awesome friend and supporter of Veterans through the HOPE program and genuine personal involvement setting as much of an example for everyone as we Veterans have, total respect for this American. Went to the bottom corner of the county to play Rolling Hills par 3 course in Chaffee NY yesterday, no flagsticks in and no tee box markers, ball washers etc. In fact nobody else there at all but the clubhouse sign said it was open with winter rates posted, drop box for honor system payment, keys in the carts availability, but mine was the only vehicle in the parking lot when I arrived and when I left almost 2 hours later after playing all 9 holes with enough golf for 2 rounds playing multiple balls at times for some real on-course practice. This photo is looking from the back of the 5th green back up the tiered tee boxes that my 8i flew 128 yds to the back of the green, total surprise but probably shouldn't have been with the vertical drop to the green. Hope golf is a part of you Veterans Day and to all my fellow Veterans, thanks for choosing to serve with me, and for those who didn't have a choice, my deepest appreciation for your courage and sacrifice.
  22. Good morning MGSpies on a US Federal Holiday Friday, up at the usual time with a potentially full agenda beginning with MGS Forum of course! We have a dry spell started yesterday with temps low 40s and higher so thinking 9 holes this morning as a warmup to my Veterans Day round tomorrow at Concord Crest GC which has become something of a tradition and last year my Veterans Day round was their last golfer on the course for 2022, thinking the weather will allow them to stay open longer in 2023. RIT Hockey against Mercyhurst this evening so time with son in Rochester, it's going to be a full day hope golf is a part of your day
  23. Good morning MGSpies from drying but still cold and damp WNY on this So Happy It's Thursday because Federal Holiday is tomorrow for Veterans Day giving us a long weekend, there is Community Call happening this afternoon, and Jason @sirchunksalot has lapped the Sun once again Happy Birthday!!! making it in all an awesome day! Zero commute with systems going online for the end of the short week daily grind, hope golf is a part of your day
  24. I would be remiss however if I do not make an apology to our esteemed Forum colleague, Mr. @Yellow Ball who so graciously bestowed upon me at the Mid South Resort, the Teeless Driver that he "tested" and had noted my urging those coming who had been selected from the multitudes of those who applied, that they bring said Teeless Driver so that I might have a chance to see if the rhetoric in the advertising was as promising at it would seem. Not only did he bring the Teeless he was selected to test, but formally transferred it to my possession. How he managed to drag it from Cali to NC I have no idea but it was my go-to big dog for a few months this year until my driver got back into play. So thanks to you Yellow Ball And you thought he was a myth LOL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EDIT: Doh! He shipped it... one of these days I am going to learn to read...
  25. Good morning MGSpies from an it's frigidly cold but no frost this time Wednesday in WNY looking at the computer going online for the workday slog from basement mission central, garbage cans already rolled to the end of the driveway. Not sure what is happening with golf today, might be same as yesterday which did not involve clubs. Hope golf is a part of your day!
