  1. Interesting conversation to start the day with. I cannot wait to see how many players start to take video of their opponents while on the course and watch for wobble etc. And call penalty strokes using slow motion replays and such
  2. Absolutely. I guess because I was getting a military discount on TM in Maui for anything in that store area I thought it was a corporate thing. According to their site they do not do that. But Untuck-it is great. She figured all that out. They do the military on top of sales and other discounts most times. Under Armor has some really good military/Veteran discounts as well. ID.me has an entire deal where you can see who offers what level of discount.
  3. Apologies everyone (and specifically @PrismFlopper) I thought it was 15%, but then I couldn't find it so I did some more searching. I looked back at my in-store transactions and I see 10% discount pretty consistently in Maui, so maybe it is a Maui store thing? But Maui transitions are the only place I see the discount in that summary. I may have been thinking about Untuck-It. That is another one she really likes so...what is hanging in my closet? Yep, Untuck-it. A little more searching through ID.me and I locate this. "No, TravisMathew does not have a Military discount through ID.me Shop. But you can find savings from thousands of other brands! Do you think TravisMathew should partner with ID.me to extend exclusive savings to Military community members? Leave your feedback below." Again, apologies to everyone for mis-speaking that data. Look, I am not the guy who goes around asking about military discounts; my wife has to tell me to do it and even then...I hesitate and rarely bother unless she is there. So, I get it, it is there and I guess I should take advantage when I can, I just don't feel like I am anybody special or like I "deserve" something for having done my job. But, I won't tell you that I don't think it isn't a wise business decision for many businesses. I know people who use certain companies because they offer the discount. Anyway, if you use Id.me are an eligible community member, you can leave a suggestion/feedback here letting TM know that it might benefit them to partner. Again, I apologize for jumping the gun with that comment and being inaccurate. R/ Scott
  4. Sounds like fun. If only the weather here was more March and less January.
  5. Funny, my wife loves their stuff so that means I have a bit and we found out their military discount is pretty good as well as that rewards and other discounts. Quality is pretty solid too so I'll 2nd your vote.
  6. As this hit I was contemplating shifting from the x-fit gym and HIIT workouts to going back through P90x again (it's been years, but that was a serious workout routine). I held off when I got the email because I didn't want to try and do that workout and FFG, but things are languishing a bit. I swear it has nothing to do with the weather up here in western WA (that SUCKS ) that is keeping me from being more motivated, I swear that isn't it. I'm just lazy, really. Oops, gotta run. Gym time.
  7. That's going to be a hard one for me as well. Not sure how that will work out, but the rest should be fine, when we get going.
  8. Man this looks like so much fun. I had a couple of things shift around the dates, but still committed to be somewhere else Saturday that just won't seem to go away! Hope y'all have fun. Look forward to reading about how much fun your having while my game atrophies This darn responsibility stuff is really getting old
  9. Honestly, aside from my frustration with the garbage distance discussion, I agree with @Javsand @Shrek74. It would be hard to say that if Jack in his prime had the condition training, equipment etc. and had grown up with the discipline and grinding training that Tiger's dad put home through that he wouldn't have increased his wins exponentially. But you can't prove a negative, you can only extrapolate from what you have for evidence. I'd vote Jack if I had to choose, I'd just have to bite my cheek over the aforementioned issue. What any of those guys did with the equipment we had back then makes many of them competitive/comparable against today's players. Consider what they accomplished without all of the advantages (not just equipment wise) and I think it is tough to unequivocally state that any player today is any better than pre-2000s players. Just my 2 cents though
  10. Date 02/19/2024 Course Name Duran Golf Club Gross Score 76 Course Handicap 3 Gross Strokes over/under par 4 Net Score to Par 1 Net Score 73 Net Birdies or better 0 Longest Drive 0 SIM Round? Little chilly in FL.
  11. If Jack would stop the B.S. about the ball being too long I'd probably stick with Jack, for multiage reasons; but because he keeps that line going it has to be Tiger.
  12. This one. Because, well...it's golf and .... well it is in Hawaii (Maui) https://www.fourseasons.com/lanai/golf/
  13. Children are truly a blessing. They bring smiles when we least expect them, and typically when we most need them. They try our patience, which can be an opportunity to become better people. Their innocence can remind us that adults often should take a step back and take another look. If we could all only retain some of that innocence, golf would probably be a much less stressful game
  14. Introduction Thank you MGS staff, Fit for Golf and all of the MSG community members for this opportunity. I will endeavor to elucidate and impassion your desire for fitness in golf and in life, rather than engender fatigue with bombastic prose. I mean, you know, from here on… My name is Scott and this is my second testing opportunity. I am definitely an advocate of these tests; I refer people to the testing forums whenever the opportunity arises and I couldn't be more appreciative for any opportunity to contribute. Golf - I grew up playing in the northeast and have been the source of greens-keeping crews’ nightmares for about 45 years (I think I actually had clubs before I was out of diapers so maybe a couple of more years). These days I primarily play out of Eastern FL and Western WA to a 5 handicap. I play recreationally and in organized tournaments throughout the year as well as a weekly evening league; all of that is strategically planned to ensure my chiropractor’s kids can go to really nice, private colleges. Fitness - What do I know about fitness? I don't have an academic background in Sports & Exercise Science, fitness or biomechanics. My experience is practical and started out of necessity during an active military career and grew into a lifelong desire to stay fit; (hmmm) there’s that word again. I ran physical fitness programs and developed training regimens to help others qualify for certain programs that had physical performance requirements. I may have dabbled in an active life over the years (see pic, since everyone else is including them, that was Boise, ID; air temp was in the mid-30s. It was warmer in the water than it was out of the water, which is why I look like I might have been working as a non-union glass cutter ). These days everything is mostly body weight and HIIT with an occasional weight room session and consistent running during more temperate weather. I find that running helps walking the hilly WA courses (I walk 99% of rounds in WA) and staying energetic in the Florida heat. The fitforgolf.blog website provides a good background on Mr. Carroll and I peaked my interest in the training. I am really excited to see how my golf game, and general fitness can benefit from one or more of them. And I'm really jazzed to have the opportunity to play with it a bit and pass an assessment along to others. - One initial, but very minor concern, is that he states that the program is designed to be started as one transitions into the off-season. This absolutely makes sense. Since we are starting as the season starts one of the things I will be looking at is how seamlessly the program works through the later, advanced, stages and returns to Phase 1 (Off-Season). - There are 37 Blog entries and 29 Podcasts averaging a bit over an hour each. While I would love to review every one of these for my own education and for input to my review, but hey folks, I do have to get some golf in, oh and a few workouts too. Right? Okay, let’s talk evaluation! I may have grown a little…corpulent over the last couple of years. But…(don’t ask me how this works) I still appear to be in decent “shape;” hey, round is a shape! I'm really looking forward to getting started. Once I do: - My plan is to at least sample the Beginner (101) and Fundamentals programs. That may change once I get into the app, but I’d like to be able to understand the gap between 101 and the more advanced programs. - Objectively, metrics will most likely be based on: o What demonstrable improvements occur in repetitions, sets, weight or time depending on the workout format? o Range of motion improvement? o How has my game been affected (scores/hcp)? o Has a there been a measurable change in clubhead speed or ball carry? o Any other measurable impact in health or fitness. - Subjectively speaking: o How do I feel after the workouts? o How do I feel after working on a program for a period of time? o How do I feel the program has affected my other workouts and general fitness? o How do I feel my swing has benefited/suffered? o How do I feel after a round since starting the program? Okay, that might sound like a lot to digest right out of the gate...but let's put this program to the test!
  15. Oh my that was an interesting video. Mercedes is missing a great marketing opportunity, "The official vehicle of snow golf..." Looks like a cool (pun intended) time.
  16. Great review, great write up! I believe MGS needs to add you to the editors list for Tester review summaries LOL! Looks like your 54 hcp is in danger of a precipitous drop as a frequent flyer on the Odin plan. Thank you.
  17. Seriously though. With all the poking fun and stuff being great, I'll go back to being real for a minute, okay 30 seconds or so. Thanks for what you guys are contributing. It has been a great experience being on here, conversing and interacting. Appreciate you and glad to see you getting your handicaps adjusted to reflect your play
  18. I remember At least I didn't call you an Ocifer. or a weapons wennie. Looking like I'll be up your way in late July, early August. I'm sure those comments will cost me strokes if we can get a round or two in, but the reaction was worth it brother
  19. Shark? I was thinking Guppy or Tadpole. Weren't you a YN or a skivy waiver or something? Oh God, wait! You weren't a brown shoe? Were you? Lord have mercy!
  20. With all the comments I was starting to wonder about that, thinking "KniFed iT" like sliced "wide, deep and sideways" One of the things that keeps me around here is definitely the humor. And the great work. Glad you guys are getting some accolades. Even if it means you get poked a bit
  21. Yes/no. I agree with 1,3 and 5; disagree with 2 and 4; I guess one could say, "that evens it out." I don't obsess over my handicap, though I am aware of it 4.8 at the moment I beleive); I rarely know where I get a stroke, and though I know dbl max is the rule I record ALL strokes and let the system kick it down. I don't ever think of a snowman as a dbl, it IS a triple or quad. I know blow up holes are inevitable, but yes, I keep playing to achieve those "clean" rounds. I also don't play to "get my handicap down." I play to get better so I can win events. I don't do that for prestige or accolades, I do it because aside from Par, the standard measure in golf (yes I understand how that relates/translates to hcp), the one other measure is how we compare to others that day, in those conditions, on that venue. How did I hold up under pressure, etc. But that is just my 2 cents in response to the question posed. I look forward to reading other's thoughts though.
  22. WOW! I was trying to compile a preference as I read through all the post here but I got overwhelmed by the sheer number of posts. I have to say that a lot of folks echo my own preference/experience. @GolfSpy_APH the forum response is great to read detail, but it is hard to get a sense of the big picture. We all know Titleist is the #1 ball on Tour, but what is the #1 ball Touring the country with MGS members? Is anyone there thinking about putting this into a survey format to see what the #1 ball on MGS is? How about whether play and/or MGS ball test are primary factors in that decision? I, for one, would be interested in seeing what balls hold preference and what factors influence choice. I started to put together a Survey Monkey, but realized that you guys might have something drawn up already or some tool that is easier to apply. Personally, I have tried a few balls based on forum reviews and Ball Test results that I may not have tried if I hadn't seen it here.
