Rob Person
A local course was chosen as a stop for one of the Korn Ferry tour PGA qualifier tournaments for the upcoming season. I signed up as a volunteer and was selected. I'm pretty excited to say the least! (only a small volunteer fee) This will be my first time volunteering at a pro level event. I've done a couple of local charity events, but nothing major like this! (I was a teebox/hole attendant). Anyone who has attended as a volunteer before, what tips and advice can you offer? thanks! (I signed up last year for the LPGA tour qualifiers event here, but when they required me to pay them a LARGE sum of money to be a volunteer, I declined) Quote WITB-Foremost 551's - 3w, 5w, 5-SW (circa 1998), Top Flite 460cc Driver, Adam's 7w, Warrior GW and 60⁰, Odyssey AI-One DB putter. revkev
I've done this for the PGA tournament at Whistling Straits and also for a couple of Hooter's tour events. There will be training, just do what you're told, don't bother the players and enjoy the experience. It's a long day regardless of what they have you do so be sure to hydrate, wear sunscreen, all that fun stuff. I was a driver from the airport for the PGA but got free tickets to the event when I wasn't on duty plus a free round at one of the sister courses every time I worked. Congrats and enjoy Rob Person 1 Quote Driver: Taylor Made Xi10 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 R flex - 44.25 Fairways: Ping G410 5, 7, 9 wood Alta CB red 65 R flex Hybrid: Ping G410 26 degree Alta CB Red 70 R flex Irons: Ping G430 7-PW, 45, 50 Alta CB black 65 soft R flex Wedges: Ping 195 S54, E58 Wedges and irons are - 1/2” and one degree flat Putter: Sacks Parente Duke 32.5” Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course. It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to. I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67. cnosil
I have volunteered for LPGA, Symetra (now epson ), Senior PGA and loved every minute. I have been standard bearer, walking scorer, and driving range attendant. I never worried about the volunteer fee since I was going to attend the event most every day so the weekly pass and volunteer fee were about equal; your volunteer badge gets you in on days you aren’t working and you typically get lunch and uniform included in the fee. Depending on the committee there may be one of more training days. no real “advice” or “tips”; just go do your shifts and enjoy the tournament.
