  1. Played Friday shot a personal best 107. As you can see on hole 8 a slice developed, I'm a lefty and I couldn't fix it mid round, I think I have it under control now. For the most part was pretty good in the short game on the front 9. Hole 1 is always a slow green and it throws me off every round. Rest of greens are fast and so is the practice green. I did not loose any balls in the water as well so that was great and I was great out of the sand.
  2. 1st Tie Breaker +2 2nd Tie Breaker - 87
  3. Found them today in store in Augusta. My dad sad they were in store in Atlanta as well. 27.99 I think was the price. I am playing Friday will throw them out there but I'm too new and bad to tell the difference atleast it won't hurt if I lose it.
  4. I am with you. I see most people tee up in the middle and go. I always tried and move vertically within the markers to get a better angle or tailor my natural shot path to the hole.
  5. I picked up a few items on the cheap latetly. First a Adams Tight Lies 7 Wood (more of a 4 hybrid really) with the original graphite shaft. I got it at the used store for $15. I tried it out in the backyard with the foam balls and was smoking them off the fence. I can't wait to try it out on the course. It was digging the ball really well out of my centipede grass so should be good in the rough. Next up I found two items I needed at Goodwill. A 56* wedge for $3 and the only lefty club there. A TaylorMade ATV. Its in rough shape but should serve me well until I can invest in wedges. After that I found a TaylorMade 2017 TourLite College Bag, college is Augusta University. Its been used hard but I was using a bag with a broken stand mechanism, no strap and no full-length dividers so this in an upgrade. I got it for $10. Stand works great, straps have a little fraying and the pad is cracked but the rest of it is in great shape.
  6. I played my first 18 holes on Saturday. It was raining as I left the house for the 20 or so minute drive to Pointe South which is well South of Augusta for my 10:38 tee time. Thankfully it was not raining when I got there though the course was a little wet and skies were overcast. The sun came out around the 15th tee. Biggest takeaways was approach shots need work, a lot of dog legs on the course leaving me 180yrds from the hole and I couldn't hit the 3 wood or hybrid off the deck at all, and chipping is still rough. Highlight was tee shots were better than I though only skied one and I sank an 18ft putt on 9 to salvage a horrible hole. I lost one ball in the water which I had lost in the woods but located. I also found another ball in the woods so finished even on balls. I got paired up with a couple of older guys and that went well. We all had a good time and despite my 134 strokes we never held up the course and ended up waiting a couple of times on the tee box for an older 4some to finish up. This was also the first time I tried to keep all the stats on 18birdies and it went pretty well. Pic below is after hole 4 the first par 3 which you better hit the green or it will go in a huge hole. The course features a large pond that plays in effect over the next several holes.
  7. I am no expert and just a beginner, but I would think Vokey or Cleveland would be the two I would chase. Now a days they are like putters and customizable to the golfer so whatever works or feels best. They are also hard to test when shopping unlike putters.
  8. I found a few Greg Norman shirts and pants at Costco as well over time. Costco churns items so you have to check a lot. My oldest is probably 2 years old now and I have had zero problems with them. I wear them for work alot and the price is great cause no matter what my young kids come at me with messy hands and I would hate to ruin an expensive shirt.
  9. congrats cool bag concept can't wait to hear how it works out for everyone.
  10. congrats. I look forward to reading the reviews.
  11. Oh yeah I loved it. He was my favorite player to see on that tour when I was a kid.
  12. That tour stop was always a huge deal in Birmingham where I grew up. All the Alabama, Auburn coaches and celebs play in the pro am. This year John Daly played with former Auburn coach and current US senator Tommy Tubberville and two country music singers. National Champion Kirby Smart took Saban's spot since he went to Italy. Charles Barkley is out there hacking. My dad took me when I was a kid and the crowds were great back then I loved following Chi Chi Rodriguez until he did the putter sword fight. Crowd would go nuts for it.
  13. Bag made it less than 24 hours before changes. I found this deal for $29.99 Cleveland TFI 1.0 2135 putter with a Super Stroke grip of my college team.
  14. I went to the other golf store here in Augusta today, Edwin Watts, because I was at Home Depot which is right next door. I still needed to figure out what putters I liked and they had some other ones plus a larger putter space Well they had a great deal, US ebay shipping is like 12-15, at 29.99 for this Cleveland TFI 1.0 2135 blade putter. It wasn't the #1 hitter for me but rest were like new prices. I got this at max range for an easy 2 put every time. Also it had an Alabama Super Stroke grip, I am a grad and a fan of the school since a kid, that plus lefty club and price was just meant to be.
  15. Thanks. Yeah probably will pull that driver and just use the 3 wood when I get used to it. I bet it will go further or atleast the same. I'll probably sell off the starter woods and chase more clubs when we get to that point.
  16. Found this lefty Volkey 54* Wedge in the lefty bin at the used store and they usually have nothing in that bin but like 5 old club that you need to check your imu form before touching. It had some old sticker gunk on the back and shaft. I cleaned that off. Thought the dirt on the grooves would clean up more bit it didn't really change.
  17. My parents were always big golf fans and even were CC members. When I was in High School, 2002 grad, they tries to get me into golf, but I was playing football and it just never grabbed me, but they did buy me a starter set. I moved that set across 3 states and several years but never used it much until now. My work started a golf league, and we are a small office so I kinda of had to play. I still had that old starter set, which is the basis of the current set, I took a lesson and started ebay shopping to get some clubs a bit newer. Golf clubs are so much different now was at the shop today and the Cobra Radspeed driver head is like 4x my starter set one its wild. Loving the game so far even though I'm horrible. It's fun to see if I did this better or that better how I could improve. Anyway here is what is in the bag now after picking up a 54* Volkey I lucked into today at the mom and pop used store. Cost me 52 and change with taxes. Oh should mention I'm a lefty and their were 6 clubs in the used bin and one was the Volkey I'll take it. Driver: Tour Spec Pro Par Oversize 10.5* I can kind of hit this club not much distance or height on it but hit it better than the other woods oddly. 3 Wood: Cobra king F9 3-4 Fwy 14.5* Haven't hit this yet came from Ebay a day after my last round. 5 Wood: Tour Spec Pro Par Oversize 20* Hybrid: Callaway Steelhead XR 4H 22* Got this club off ebay for cheap but I can't hit it at all. Might sell it back. Not sure yet. 3-8, PW: Tour Spec Pro Par Oversize Working on replacing these slowly. I can make decent contact with them but the difference in hitting the 9i is miles apart. 9i: Cobra King F6 This thing is a joy to hit can always find my swing with it and the ball flight is just amazing off the club face. 54* wedge: Volkey SM6 M Grind Found this in the lefty bin today. Went to test out some putters because I have no clue what I would like I just know my current one needs to go. Putter: Tommy Armour T-Line XIV Putter cover was the cheapest on Amazon made in China.
  18. Yes Augusta University has really grown and put out some good golfers. Coach got hired at SMU after their success. Those are two of the better public courses I hear. Haven't had a chance to check them out yet.
  19. Played 9 in our work golf league on Tuesday. Third round I have played since starting up. Didn't have time to warm up this time and it made a huge difference in a bad way. Shot a +35. Probably a bad sign after a sunny hot day we got some heat lightning right at the start. I lost my swing for all clubs on hole 5 and never really had my wood swing. I skyed three tee offs straight up and then when I lost the iron swing it was left and right all day. Still working on chipping and don't have a feel their yet. Putting was better was able to 2-3 putt most holes when I started way out.
  20. Slowly replacing my high school starter set which is probably too short but with me just picking the game back up I would rather sky mark those clubs, which I just did on my last round. I lost my swing on hole 5 of 9 and skied two straight balls straight up. I usually had to tee the ball high for my woods to hit them maybe that is a sign I got better IDK. Anyway found a good deal on a used lefty King F9 3-4 wood with a Fujikara Atmos blue shaft on ebay. It came in yesterday. I was scared box was beat to hell but club was fine once I pulled it out. I couldn't find any packaging damage.
  21. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I just started back up playing in April. I played some in high school and a little bit in college. I finally decided to bite the bullet and get a lesson and get back into after chasing my career and two kids ages 6, 3. I really caught the bug even though I can't chip or putt or drive really. I am a decent irons player so far. I joined our work league and have played three rounds one of which was a best ball, they did use 3 of my balls so that wasn't bad. The other two rounds I shot max about every hole. What do you love about golf? I love a hobby you can get really deep into with research, hobbying, videos, etc. So far golf has scratched that itch for me with tons to learn, read and watch. On the course I enjoy just challenging myself to improve seeing mistakes and areas to get better. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? Going back to the last question just wanting to learn more about the hobby and find a place to discuss it. I don't know anyone here personally. Where are you from? What is your home course? I live in Augusta, GA, which from what I can tell is not as golfy as you would think, and currently don't have a home course. I work in SC and our golf league plays at Pine Ridge in Edgefield, SC. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? The odd thing for me is when you tell anyone you are from Augusta they think you are a golf nut but having been here several years now I would say golf is not as big as other areas, besides tournament week obviously. Augusta and a lot of Georgia in general is very transient. Tons of military here that come in and go. Lots of different college teams on the back of cars. I even saw a Hawaii license plate in town last week. Not a lot of golf gear finds around here from what I can find just getting back in. Goodwill only had a couple of clubs, no real used store besides one mom an pop and only an Edwin Williams from the chain perspective. What do you do for a living? Supply Chain Purchasing in Manufacturing. How’d you pick your user name? I always use this obscure Star Wars character as a name but I am bad at picking those king of things.
  22. Thanks for the warm-welcome. Just got back into playing a month ago after a break post-college which was 15 years ago. I was looking for some forums to talk and ran across this place which looks great. I took a lesson and after hitting some more baskets I got the swing in an ok place. Now just to figure out how to chip and putt. I am slowly replacing my old starter set from 20 years ago, when I started playing in high school, with ebay finds. A used bag seems hard to find. I have an old stand bag someone tossed. Stand device is broken it is no longer attached at the bottom but the legs still work fine. I will look at replacing it too.
