  1. I'm a Rory guy myself. Love his swing, his power, his interviews etc. Just seems like a solid dude. It's also not easy to live up to the expectations that come with being a child prodigy, and despite not winning a major in a long time, I think he has (and still hopefully has a long career and some majors left in him)
  2. Played one of those rounds that makes you not want to play anymore. 101. Hit 1(!!!) green. A year ago I got down to a 9 HC and have been going the wrong way ever since. I've been seriously considering cancelling my membership and stepping away from the game for a while. It's a bummer because I do love golf, but looking back i'm not sure I've had fun playing for the last six months or so (other than hanging out with the boys). Would save a lot of money and frustration to step away for a while. Could still play once a month or so if i get the itch. Anyone ever stepped away from playing a ton and gotten back into it later?
  3. Need someone to physically drill this into my brain. Maybe just follow me around and give me a 9 iron to the face every time i do something dumb
  4. Ruthless sport! Also funny we just quoted each other at pretty much the exact same time in different threads
  5. I'm gonna parrot this point. My club is is definitely on the cheap side but also has people from all walks of life. The dress code is pretty lax, good mix of all ages. Good group of young guys around my age. It definitely doesn't feel private like some of the clubs i've been to, and i like that about it.
  6. Feel for de Vries, but excited to have Danny Ric back on the grid. Assume that if he shows he still has it, he has a very good shot at the RB seat next year with Sergio slipping
  7. That's the one i was eyeing as well. WIsh it came in a slant neck
  8. I'm happy with my putter, but those new TM putters look nice. I like how clean they are. Gonna keep my eye on them and see how they look out in the wild
  9. This doesn't mean much given i don't have a wife or kids, but i get up and hit the gym before work. If that's something you can swing, i highly recommend it. I absolutely love knocking it out early in the day and having my afternoons free to do whatever - in your case could be playing golf or hanging with the family and kids or both
  10. It's really something that you kind of just get a feel for imo. I very rarely take a full swing with a wedge (sometimes with 52), and kind of default to a 3/4ish swing with wedges in my hand. Keeps the flight a little lower and still stop on a dime. So learn you distances, and then learn how lies affect it. For example, if a ball is kind of fluffed up in the rough, you may want to club down because its probably going to come out hot with no spin.
  11. I generally try to give myself 30 minutes at least. Might hit a few balls, might not. I just don't want to be the guy that rolls up 2 minutes before the tee time because i certainly have some friends like that.
  12. Fair enough. I like golf too much to not watch most likely, but we'll see. If it turns into a total circus, I guess i'll have more time to actually play golf on the weekends. Unfortunately that plays right into the Saudi's hands with all of their sport investment (F1, Soccer/Football, now golf, etc.) But that's the world we live in
  13. Well we had the best players in the world playing each other every week before the Saudis ever got involved. I don't see them caring much about the levels of pro golf under the PGAT which are already struggling. And if it's anything like LIV, they'll have the commentators, socials, etc etc just telling how us how awesome they are at every turn
  14. This is such a bummer, man. Pro golf is going to change forever, and I don't see how this changes it for the better
  15. Not a whole lot to say. This is unbelievable. Feel for the guys that JM trotted out to defend him for the past year. Also LOL that the biggest LIV talking point for the past year was that the PGAT had a monopoly on golf - so you're telling me it wasn't really about that????
  16. I got out and played 9 while the lady walked with me. Shot a 42. Good progress - didn't feel like i had my best stuff, but i also didn't hit any truly terrible shots. That's the name of the game Also always a nice reminder when she comes and walks with me that there's really no reason to get mad on the golf course. Not that I'm the cursing at himself, throwing clubs, bringing the whole group down with you kind of guy, but i do get frustrated sometimes like we all probably do. I obviously want to improve and play the best golf that i can, but at the end of the day it's important to remind myself that i'm out there to spend time with people i care about, enjoy the outdoors, and enjoy the game. Hit em straight this weekend guys and gals!
  17. Ordered a Jaws Raw 60 X grind from CPO a couple degrees flat. Reading about the X grind intrigued me, and i've had my LW for 4 or 5 years i think (at least), so it was time. It's served me well Also picked up 3 dozen of the Z star diamonds. I've flip flopped between the Z star and the XV, so excited to see how i like this ball. Srixon has also turned me into a fanboy because of their affordable premium balls. Can pretty much find them on sale year round, or at least stock up when they run their deals.
  18. Did you pull the trigger? I think i'd have to give it a shot at that price
  19. As disappointing as some of those rounds are, i'm always proud of myself for staying "in" the round and trying to turn it around a little bit. If i have a few bad holes I have a tendency to kind of check out, but I'm working on staying present and just playing the next shot. Think you really improve when you still grind it out despite not having your best stuff on the day
  20. I went out last night and hit balls for about 20 minutes. I took some DTL and face on videos because i think i'm going to try out a coach on skillest to try and clean up my swing. After i got my videos i spent time trying to go back and forth between drawing and fading balls to the same target. Something i've never really practiced but it was fun and i think helpful really learning some club face awareness. After that i chipped and pitched for about an hour. I think i can save a ton of shots cleaning up my short game, so the plan is to continue short game sessions at least once a week if i can.
  21. Pretty crazy how much drama the rain the caused in the race, and yet it really didn't affect the outcome at all. It definitely spiced up a typically boring Monaco though. Need charles' to get a new race engineer. Feels like Xavi has a huge blunder every race weekend Expecting Spain to be more of the same, but we'll see.
  22. It is definitely a nice luxury to have when it's working, but it also comes with guys always saying "you should be so much better than you are," or "your swing is too nice to be hitting it like that." I get beat by my shorter friends all the time though, more than one way to get around a golf course.
  23. Got to play twice this weekend. 90 on sunday, 85 yesterday. As crazy as it may seem, i'm actually encouraged after these couple rounds. I believe I only hit 5 fairways out of the 36 holes (4 of them coming from the 90 surprisingly), so i've obviously got to clean that up. I've been at odds with my driver for 3 or 4 months now. I hit it a long way, so it's such an advantage when i'm hitting it well, but when it's bad, it's bad. I putted great both days. I got a putting mat and an alignment mirror and made some tweaks to my setup last week, and it's already paying off. Knowing you're going to hit the putt right where you're looking is a great feeling. If i can get off the tee and clean up my game around the green a bit, I think i've got some good golf in the near future. Here's hoping
  24. I'm a gear nerd and like reading about it, even if i'm not going to go shell out the cash every year for the latest and greatest. I'm a pretty active forum member on WRX, but i came over here after reading some reviews and poking around the forums. This place seems a lot more community oriented, which I enjoy.
  25. I have no issue with true gimmes (say 2 or 3 feet), but I definitely do know some guys that get a little too generous with them, and then will just pick their ball up or half-heartedly putt their 4 or 5 footers that I would never give. At the end of the day, if we're not playing for money i couldn't care less. If you want to shave a couple strokes to inflate the ego a little bit, what do i care. You're only hurting yourself by artificially lowering the HC It does annoy me when they just toss you your ball on something i wouldn't even give me myself. There's something satisfying about hitting cups and seeing the ball go in the hole
