  1. I would typically say I'm always in favor of playing golf over watching golf, but Sunday at the Masters may be the one exception. The weather this weekend in Chicago looks like it's going to be absolutely incredible, but I will be inside hosting a Masters watch party with some friends instead of out on the course. I absolutely respect those who always choose playing over watching, but the Masters holds a special place in my heart and I want to soak in every minute I possibly can.
  2. Good morning Spies! Another nice day in Chicago with temps around 60º today. Excited to watch the Par 3 contest this afternoon. Been watching all the interviews and the On The Range coverage over the past couple days. Hoping the weather tomorrow isn't too bad and we can see some good golf on day 1! Tempted to try and sneak in an early morning round this Saturday as the weather looks superb, but I think I'm going to just focus on watching the Masters instead. We've got enough going on as it is and my wife is already putting up with me being a zombie in front of the TV all weekend Glad that we're getting closer to the weekend! Hope that everyone has a great hump day
  3. It's a links-style course that was one of my favorite designs I've played in the Chicagoland area. The water was definitely a factor, but having a teammate to help bail you out gave me more confidence to avoid it. Would be interesting to see how I'd score on my own ball!
  4. I'm definitely due for some new irons as my next big golf purchase. I'd love to actually get fitted without bias and find what works best for me and my game. May not happen this year, but hopefully sometime in the not-so-distant future!
  5. Good morning spies! Another pretty nice day in Chicago as temps will be creeping up into the low 60s with some sun. Would be a nice day for some golf if I didn't have to work! Was able to check-out the eclipse from our building rooftop yesterday. Was fairly underwhelming here as it was only 94% coverage and looked more like a hazy fog than darkness. A nice neighbor let me borrow their cardboard glasses to get a glimpse of the sliver of sun not covered by the moon. Shoutout to @Josh Parker and @jbern for the awesome pics! Went to the simulator last night and felt really good about my swing. No tee times on the horizon with the Masters this weekend, but going to try and bottle this feeling up and take it with me the next time I tee it up. @berkeleybob very sorry to hear about your wife; I hope she feels better soon! Have a great Tuesday all!
  6. Echoing what many others have already said but here is my order: 1. Masters - best viewing experience for any major, hands down. Course is always in pristine shape and is a good challenge for the best golfers on the planet year after year. 2. The Open - I am a big fan of links golf and seeing players battle the elements and these natural designs is always extremely entertaining. 3. U.S. Open - 2 & 3 are close for me depending on the course for any particular year. Always a good challenge for the players and fun to watch the best in the world struggle in harsh conditions. 4. PGA Championship - Sometimes great, sometimes lackluster. I find myself getting less excited for this one than the others and typically have to hype myself up and remind myself that it is indeed a major. Oak Hill last year was superb. Hoping for another good one at Valhalla this year.
  7. Good morning Spies and Happy Masters Week! It's officially the best golf week of the year and I can't wait to consume as much content from Augusta National as humanly possible. We had some great golf on yesterday with the battle between Akshay Bhatia and Denny McCarthy as well as four in a row for Nelly Korda. Really glad to see Akshay get an invite to Augusta this week, but that chunk by Denny was brutal after a historic back nine. Happy Eclipse Day as well! We'll get about 94% coverage here in Chicago, so I might try to sneak out to our rooftop to catch a glimpse when it happens. Just need to find some cardboard glasses first... The weather also seems to officially be turning around as we're in the 70s today! Hoping this means steady golf weather is just around the corner. Have a great day all!
  8. I don't know much about the China track as I've only gotten into F1 in the last couple years and it hasn't been on the calendar. Will need to do some research and watch some old footage. I'm excited for a new track and to see how the season progresses but I'm not excited for the 2am start time... I don't mind waking up early or staying up late for races, but when it's dead in the middle of the night it throws everything off.
  9. Really glad that Akshay was able to get the win and the invite to Augusta next week. McCarthy didn't make it easy with a historic back nine! Between the putts made to force the playoff, the dislocated shoulder in celebration and the chunk by McCarthy in the playoff, it was an extremely entertaining finale. Now onto the best week in golf!
  10. Yesterday I played in a pick-your-pin 2-man scramble tournament with one of my friends. Each green had two pin placements. One Pin placement was an easier pin the other a harder pin. The scoring was a modified Stableford based on the difficulty of the pins and relative to your score. The event took place at Mistwood Golf Club in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. This is a course that I've been wanting to play for quite some time, but it's typically expensive and a long commute from where I'm located in the city. There were definitely a combination of good and bad shots throughout the day. It helped that it was a scramble and we were able to pick each other up when the other didn't have a great shot. I had a few really good drives, and a few that I wouldn't mind forgetting. One hole in particular comes to mind, where my partner cut a corner on a dogleg Par 5 over water (think hole 6 at Bay Hill) and I hit a 7-iron to six feet for eagle. Overall, it was a great, low-stress way to kickoff the golf season. I'm looking forward to playing a lot this year and continuing to improve my consistency and shoot lower scores.
  11. I'm glad someone else said it because I was thinking the same thing "I don't see Nelly Korda anywhere!"
  12. Good morning all! Looking forward to a nice, relaxing Sunday after a busy Friday and Saturday. Weather in Chicago is rainy and cool, so I plan on reading all day with some golf/basketball on in the background. Participated in a 2-man scramble yesterday, which was very fun. It was a great way to kickoff the golf season as we didn't expect to win anything and there was no pressure to hit perfect shots with your own ball. The weather was also great for most of the day and I have a slight sunburn as a parting gift (no complaints!) Hope everyone has a great Sunday!
  13. Stayed up late last night to watch the race. Really happy as a Ferrari fan, but bummed to see Charles not get the podium after running a practically perfect race from P8 with the one-stop strategy. Obviously they had to let Carlos pass with the fresher tires, but I thought he deserved it after his beautiful tire management. Red Bull seems to still be in a different league, with Ferrari slightly closing the gap but a definitive second at the moment. Will be interesting as the season goes on if Mercedes/McLaren/Aston Martin can challenge them in race pace. Likely will be watching the China race in a couple weeks the following morning. I don't think I can stay up to 2am CST for that one!
  14. I just put the new Lamkin Crossline 360 grey grips on my wedges and plan to do the same with my irons later this year. Love the feel of them
  15. First Tie Breaker: cut -2 Second Tie Breaker: Low Amateur Stewart Hagestad Such a cool opportunity for the Forum. Shoutout to the MGS Staff for putting this together!
  16. Good morning spies! Had fun last night at a charity gala benefiting the Chicago Public Library Foundation. We don't often get excuses to dress up and take on the town, so it was a nice change of pace. My buddy and I are participating in a two-man scramble this afternoon. The twist is that there are two pins on each green - one easier, one harder. The scoring will be a modified Stableford based on the difficulty of the pins and relative to your score. I'm wishing the weather would be warmer, but it'll still be a nice way to kickoff the golf season. Very cool to see the GHOST Golf Bag testing opportunity this morning. Those bags are supreme quality and I'll definitely be following along to see who gets selected! Hope everyone has a great Saturday!
  17. Golf is on my mind the majority of the time, so I would love to find myself working at some capacity in the industry at some point. However, I've heard from many others that making your favorite hobby your job can take a lot of the joy and fun out of it. I'm sure it depends on what you're doing, but I do believe there's some truth in that. Golf has always been an escape for me and turning it into something I rely on to pay the bills might taint my love for it. I used to work in a bag room at my hometown country club for 6 years and I enjoyed being close to the course and having access to it from time to time. I truly believe I would enjoy being a golf instructor, but I know how rough that lifestyle is and how little golf you actually play in that role. I think getting involved in the corporate side of golf would be my best bet at this point. I have an accounting background and would love to work for the PGA Tour or a large manufacturer on the business side to help the future of golf move in the right direction. For now, I'll just enjoy my hobby!
  18. Good morning Spies! Glad that we safely made it to Friday with minimal trauma due to a busy work week and brutal weather. Temps still in the mid 40s today, but should be slightly warmer over the weekend. My wife and I are attending a gala tonight with a few friends of ours. Should be a good excuse to dress up and drink down. The theme is "Film Noir" so I'm sure we'll see some folks dressed to the nines. Let's end the work week strong and enjoy the weekend to the fullest!
  19. Good morning all! Very exciting news to wakeup to the L.A.B. DF3 testing opportunity. The MGS Staff continues to deliver awesome experiences for us all. Best of luck to everyone applying for that one - I'm sure it'll be popular! Another gloomy day in Chicago with highs in the low 40s. I'd really like to retire my winter coat for the year, but Mother Nature has other plans. Looking forward to the Community Call this afternoon. Something to look forward to during a busy work week with crappy weather outside. @Fongle very sorry to hear about your uncle. F Cancer. Hope everyone has a great Thursday!
  20. Hope he does! Was always a huge fan of his
  21. Outside of golf, I would say my biggest hobbies are video games, music, and other sports. I've been playing video games pretty consistently throughout my life, but in the past 6 years or so, it's really ramped up. I mostly play shooting games (e.g., Valorant, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Halo), but recently have been playing F1 23 since some friends got us a wheel and pedals for a wedding gift. That leads into another newer love in my life... Formula 1. My wife and I have become big fans of Formula 1 after watching Netflix's Drive to Survive series. I would say before watching that series, our interest in motorsports as a whole was less than zero however afterwards we've become addicted. We try to watch every race, stay on top of F1 news and now frequently race the tracks ourselves in the video game. In addition to Formula 1, I consider myself an avid sports fan. Football season has become my favorite time of year as I've gotten older (Go Irish/Go Bills). I used to follow basketball much closer, but my interest has wavered since I don't play as much myself these days. I've been following March Madness and have enjoyed watching games from time to time, but I would say Football and Formula 1 are the frontrunners. Never been a big baseball fan, but do live fairly close to Wrigleyville in Chicago so try to attend a game or two per year. Music has always been a big love of mine. I grew up participating in band and choir and translated that into very amateur songwriting after high school. I like to play guitar and sing along to popular songs or ones I've written myself. I used to attend open mics once in a while, but just haven't been motivated to do that lately. I've always had a fairly broad interest in music, ranging from oldies to pop music and everything in between. Let's be real though... all of the above occupies about 2% of my brain while golf occupies the other 98%
  22. Good morning spies! Woke up to snow in Chicago this morning. Weather seems to be moving in the opposite direction of what we would like to see this time of year. Hopefully will make the breakthrough into golf season even more worth the wait. Went to the sim last night with a friend of mine. Played about 13 holes at the Old Course at St. Andrews. Auto 2-putt made for a pretty good score even though there would likely be lots of 3+ putts in real life either way swing was feeling solid and good to get some practice in. Hoping to catch some of the Augusta National Women's Amateur tournament on TV this afternoon. From what I've heard, the course seems to be in incredible shape leading up to The Big Event next weekend. Approaching halfway through the week and hoping to slide safely into the weekend after today. Hope that everyone has a great hump day!
  23. Good morning (afternoon) everyone! Must have been distracted this morning because I totally missed my normal routine of posting right before starting work busy week is in progress so I'll blame that for my tardiness. Weather continues to be gloomy in Chicago. This weekend should be somewhat nicer, but I'm still awaiting the breakthrough into "actual" golf season weather. Hitting up the sim tonight with a buddy of mine. Working on getting into a good rhythm with my swing before a 2-man scramble tournament this weekend. Hope everyone has a great day!
  24. Good morning spies! Back to work after a relaxing weekend. The real April Fools joke is this weather we're having! Looking like 40s and rain all week... YUCK. Some good golf on TV yesterday. Really thought Scottie was going to make it 3 wins in a row. Meanwhile Nelly Korda actually did! It's really a shame that the LPGA doesn't get more airtime. Nelly was on the verge of LPGA history and Golf Channel is showing the Champions Tour instead @GolfSpy_BEN best of luck with the new gig! Always exciting starting a new chapter. Hope everyone has a great start of their week and month!
