  1. In the late 1990’s I really thought my body was ready for my first junior Midwest body building show.Had the cocky attitude thinking that they might as well give me the first place trophy before the event even started. Boy was I in for a rude awakening. The other competitors blew me off the stage almost immediately. They were bigger : smarter and more intune on what a body builder should be. No matter how much gear I was on . Nor how big my ego was . I finished at the very bottom of the competition. Was a hard feeling grasping I just didn’t have what it took at the time. You have two choices. Work harder or think about other hobbies. I chose the later. It hurt my ego so badly that it set behind years in my training. I’m sure this happens with many who qualified for these golf opens competing against the real pros who do it for a living
  2. Shot a nice 91 yesterday that matched the 90 degree temps with no wind at all. When I’m swinging well I naturally take a medium to large size divot on my iron shots. The ball will come out lower and really has some sauce when it hits the greens (wedges especially). When I play real bad I have zero divot and the ball flies very poorly. Is a divot something I should force.Or just let it happen naturally? And why is it good days I take a natural flush divot
  3. This is why I love the US Open. The opportunity for a random joe making it to the big one is great for the game.Usually, the outcome is always like the above.Missing the cut by a mile. Its the pressure, lack of experience or maybe even swing flaw mechanics that always appear on the big stage events. What a wonderful event
  4. Maybe what he posted about the senior pros being ‘has beens’ was misinterpreted . He was almost dead last In that senior event
  5. Kinda amazed at the record low scoring occurring. The all time low US open scoring record could be broken this week
  6. I did watch the first round of this years US open. Those guys really ate it up.Im always amazed at the big separation of the top tier golfers in these events.Versus the ones at the bottom of the pack who need to get their games in better shape. The senior tour doesn’t have as much depth as the regular tour. Its usually a group of 20 guys that are always a there week in and out
  7. Here in Missouri I’ve had the chance seeing both the regular tour and the champions. The senior events just never had the action the big tour has. Will go see the regular tour whenever I get the opportunity. I’m going to pass on the seniors
  8. We played the Ohio State University golf course today. Was beautiful, but really beat up my game. Won’t put down my score in respect of not offending this great forum. But I did make two pars with no mulligans. The rest of the holes weren’t pretty at all. A real penal course for sure
  9. I think so. But the ad itself made no sense with the pics they combined for it. An odd combo
  10. A smooth pitching wedge from 150??? Try a 6 iron for me.So close, great shot
  11. Agree. The course was setup pretty difficult. But for some reason the atmosphere itself was real blah.It was nice seeing these guys more relaxed laughing with the crowd and signing tons of autographs (even between shots). I think they would have more success having a few random 36 hole exhibition events.Versus a whole tour schedule. Was a great time, but I won’t attend another one of these again
  12. Watched a few events briefly on tv and just couldn’t get into it. Not saying they still can’t play well. I’m more interested in the regular tour
  13. Just got back from watching a great event in Madison Wi (American Family Insurance Classic). In a way this tour reminds me fan friendly. And almost a ‘last chance’ opportunity seeing some of these older greats before leaving the game completely. It reminds me of an exit tour / exhibition than the grind of the regular tour that they no longer compete in.Not very many events let fans walk inside the ropes in a practice round like these event had. A real hands on experience on what the pros are thinking. Who else went to a senior event and felt like it was more relaxed than the regular tour?Do you still recognize this tour as competitive.Or more of a last chance seeing stars of the past before they retire for good
  14. Played 18 today and shot 47-47 for a 94. For how I played it felt like I shot at least 10 shots lower than that. Was out as a solo and zipped around in 3 hours with no one in front or behind me in a cart. Was a great great day. Nice not losing any golf balls and being in spots where you can take a full swing at it
  15. You guys all look like low handicap solid golfers To me
  16. Something just odd about this ad. Not sure what it is
  17. Played nine and can happily say I shot a 47. Maybe not great for others here. But anything in the 40’s is a good day for me. Just swung in tempo and I let the club head do the work. Watched my aim and ball position and gravity did the rest. Club felt like an anvil in my hands. Hope I can remember and keep that heavy feeling next time out. Really feel like I have a good round in me this summer. Just where and when is the million dollar question
  18. When I was growing up it was a great honor being on the baseball field. My folks were very animate on the sidelines. And put tons of effort into my game and seeing this as a chance leading into a possible scholarship one day. For many, baseball is a way out of a ‘ rift raft ‘ life as you call it. So as you see as being loud and obnoxious. I see it as parents pushing their sons or daughters into being successful. You also learn team work , honesty and pride in what your doing as a player. Valuable qualities needed leading into adulthood I also took advantage of the golf clinic at the local country club for kids who live on the other side of the tracks. Being in early high school, I observed what a country club atmosphere really is . Don’t get me wrong, I learned a new sport and it’s rules. But behind the smoke and mirrors I saw the members living it up. And saw the average joes doing the greenskeeping or waiting tables or washing clubs. It just didn’t seem right with me that a select few could live that life style while the others were slaving it at the club. I’m sure we were just a tax right off for the club. And a token showing that they are trying too care about the other kids who never could experience golf. Remember telling my father one night what I experienced at the club. And he told me “ son , this is how the world is unfortunately” . A world of haves vs have nots.
  19. Agree.Sadly these youth are in an endless cycle that will keep repeating. They will be the ones yelling in the stands when they are adults.Their families are breeding them into this toxic lifestyles. My club opened the door up to them many a time.We had an excellent summer youth golf program that was basically free and included the clubs. We reached out to these areas in the communities offering them a chance to learn a game that teaches so many great life morals.Year after year the attendance was nil - none.So we decided ending it with the lack of participation.
  20. Went to my 10 year olds baseball game yesterday and was really shocked. Never saw so many rift raft parents in my life. So many foul mouth, trashy looking people congregated in one area was a little much for me. I’m fortunate that my grandson is also taking soccer and golf this summer thru is local school system. Really hoped many of these young kids don’t turn out like their parents. Yelling at the refs , coaches and booing the other team was just inappropriate for an 10 year old enduring. This should be a time for them enjoying and learning the sport. I sat with his parents and we started chatting about their sons progress in golf this summer. One of the families next to us over heard the conversation and gave us this look like we were snooty. So glad sports like soccer and golf tend too bring in a higher standard of parents. Really eliminates the obnoxious rift raft crowds. Especially when the kids are in late elementary years
  21. Maybe the upper echelons of golf are illuminates. When your wealthy and own it all.Who is saying you can’t control the weather as well. A possibility. Its a world of Have and Have Nots
  22. I’m really amazed more events haven’t been cancelled. Golf has to be the luckiest sport when it comes to decent weather. That old saying “ it never rains on a golf course” must hold true. I know they have had Monday finishes before. But rarely does an entire event get completely cancelled. Not sure many other sports could boast this claim
  23. I couldn’t find this on a google search. But has there ever been a tour event (ladies - men’s) been completely cancelled because of bad weather? One of my co workers mentioned that he thought a few past hurricanes completely cancelled-postponed a few tour events. But he wasn’t sure. Any you members recall ?
