  1. Great banter by all on here. Just have to say Edveed that some of those cart riding out of shape golfers can really play. They may not be to your liking. But they can really golf their ball. They might surprise you on how flexible and athletic they really are. Even though their bodies may not show it. Can’t judge a book by its cover
  2. I’m going to do this in my den.Since I will be shut out of golf for days with all the heavy rain. One thing that always helped me is thinking tempo only on the course.Do you thinking just focusing on a nice smooth tempo is a good thought as well ?
  3. Weather has been terrible for almost any outdoor activities this past month.Got out on a gorgeous 81 degree day and just played terrible.Shot a 58 for 9 holes and left the course. I hit just about every bad shot a golf club could possibly hit in a lifetime.Bad storms and more heavy rain slated for the next 7 days again. So now I have to live with all the bad memories from that debacle in the sun yesterday It’s weird..I felt so happy to just be on the course yesterday. And I really felt like a decent round would be the gift the golf gods would give me.Sadly, they gave me a real bad one.Not sure what part of my game needs addressing
  4. Wow!!! More amateur golfers need the gym than they need golf. Many I see can’t even function unless they are riding a cart. Some of the most out of shape-lazy-sick looking individuals I’ve ever come across are golfers in general.Change your life and live longer. The gym is a life style change that our bodies need. Great work Ole Grey and Rev
  5. I love golf and love going to the gym; However, the gym is basically useless —or others —unless We develop a more proper swing technique. Proper technique in golf will trump getting in shape every time in our games
  6. I’ve played (and currently play) with a group of low handicap golfers.A few have even won our yearly city tourney as well. The question came up about getting fit and advantages in their golf games. Most replied they have no need for it and credit good technique with their low handicap success.Granted we are just amateurs playing the same local clubs daily. Is getting fit really a necessity for our games?
  7. When I first started playing golf I never went all in. And cutback my playing down to nill. Golf for me never signified a true manly sport or endeavor. It portrayed more of a leisure activity for non athletic types. It just wasn’t cool enough and didn’t give me that rush I was looking for. Now 20 years later I respect golf and it’s difficulty. I don’t see it as a true athletic activity like my other likes. But the daily challenges draw me in.
  8. The answers with this are endless. Personally I’ve heard lack of time - the cost- how hard the game is - family first motto- bad weather - a feeling of not fitting in with others- on and on . And even heard a few tell me the game isn’t exciting enough for their tastes. Might be hard tracking. But I feel more are cutting back or quitting the game versus brand new golfers . It is what it is. Not a sport for everyone
  9. Running our business golf league again this year. And I’m really surprised how many past members have quit golf.Or cut back drastically on golf rounds played for the year. The reasons were a plenty. From those you know who quit or cut back what we’re the reasons you heard?
  10. I would think most would be honest on these sites. What would one really have to gain by lying?
  11. I think the amateurs themselves are honest and realistic about their games. But the online instructors who act like their methods are the nirvana for great golf are delusional. Many of their philosophies are just whims of grandeur. Heck I read where one instructor is going to play in a major senior event soon. And he actually said he could beat all the so called ‘has beens’ out there on that tour. Really? Can’t wait to see the outcome of that one
  12. I’ve been a real avid reader of many an online golf forum thru the years. And I’ve noticed that the caliber of online golfers play is very solid and reputable. In a whole, most posters are low handicap accomplished players.(Or they might be fibbing..hahaha).What is your opinion of online golfers abilities?
  13. Went to my nephews little league baseball game today. He is 7 and is in the second tier group (ages 7-9).The second tier is no pitcher, but the ball is shot from a pitching machine.Anyway, to my surprise the coaches were keeping stats and they also had a score (winner and loser team).Whatever happened to just playing the game for fun at this ripe age of 7-9.Why the stats and why even have a score?I would think being out there making new friends and learning a new sport should be the main goal. When I was a youth many moons ago we never worried about winning or losing until 5th grade little league.
  14. Finished our red white and blue event yesterday. And the best ball round was very poor. Just wanted to say we finished dead last. My playing partner, who is a member of the club, felt so embarrassed by our scores. But I told him it isn’t that big of a deal. In a few days no one will even remember we played or who won. But we both had a good time.So for me, that is like winning
  15. The 2nd day of our memorial weekend red-white-blue tourney.Today was two man alternate shot off of the set of tees assigned per your handicap. We played the red tees and shot a grueling 97.What really hurt us was some very poor tee shots.Unfortunately,we are now in dead last by 12 shots.Tomorrow will be a new day.The one bonus is the great food after and during the round
  16. all of it made on the grill
  17. Played in our Memorial weekend red white and blue spectacular 3 day event. Today’s round we shot a 2 man scramble score of 78 :(. Dead last by 6 shots. The format today was scramble with 6 holes off the white tees - 6 blue- 6 red. Really stunk it up today very badly. Not really embarrassed. Just more disappointed The next two days are alternate shot and best ball. Sadly the weather looks bad. Hope we can get out and give it another go for improvement
  18. Great posts russtopherb. I for one really regret some major life events that I missed due to playing golf.Would golf every major holiday and play 150 plus rounds a year.Looking back, I wish I would’ve left the clubs in the trunk more. Those moments only come around once good luck to you.You will be an Avid golfer soon enough
  19. Did some traveling the last few days and joined up with some great folks on the links.Oddly, the majority were less than a dozen rounds a year golfers. They have the passion for the game but seem to shy away from playing the game avidly. The universal reason I heard was lack of time.Even playing 9 holes doesn’t fit into their schedules. What suggestions would you give to convert casual golfers into avid ones?
  20. Well my thread really took some different twists and turns on the subject.
  21. It’s common on all forums of any type. The original op’s drop a topic and you never hear from them again.Almost as bad as the people that never flush the toilet after they do their thing. Mr Kopeka must have read this thread and got angered. He is currently -7 and lapping the field at the PGA
  22. Let’s just say it was a very bad day for the golf score. Shot an abysmal 113 on a course that never gives me any problems. The grip just didn’t feel right and threw off my rhythm. Really disappointed. But can’t beat a perfect 81 degree day with no wind. I don’t think any of us broke 100 today. We also finished In just under 5 1/2 hrs for 18. So at least the torture wasn’t an all day event Here are some pics of me and our traveling group enjoying the day
  23. That was a great thread. Maybe some of us need to search before making similar topics. Being a weight lifter isn’t really a huge sports movement like golf. Nor does it require amazing dexterity and coordination. Basically you lift all day long and eat super healthy. Than just let nature take its course. Where playing golf at the highest levels is just a gift that only an extremely small group can understand. Those guys and gals are really that talented. And would probably succeed at many other sports activities as well. Now for high caps like me it’s not so much an athletic sport. It’s more survival and hoping that weeks tip will at least last a few holes. Boy would I love too have a pros game for at least 9 holes. Experiencing what they feel on every shot
  24. Guys like the late Rich Piana, Bradley Martin, Kai Greene, Sadik Hadzovic and the list goes on and on of pro lifters. These guys are about bulk and mass. Where as a pro golfer is about functional core muscles. Sure, the look isn’t as impressive as the list of studs above. But I assure you that it is perfect for a game like golf. It’s about precision and repetition. If your looking for natural bulk or power lifter show looks. You will never find this on any golf tour. But you will find many in great cardio yoga driven builds. This isn’t a sport about 55 dumbbell curls and 300 lbs bench press. It’s about medicine ball / lunges / cable and elastic band workouts Having a back that one can use as a movie screen isnt golf. Or needed for playing the level these guys do. The lifters have a look that works great on a beach. But won’t be very effective on a golf course
