  1. Which of the grips is closest to the original grip on the Evnroll in your opinion?
  2. So I noticed the higher ball flight first at the range where it was pretty calm. I observed the same flight while out on the course while playing in the wind also but I didn't have any issues with the ball ballooning on shots into the wind. It cut through pretty well so really the only difference was a better descent angle. It's something I will definitely be paying attention to and will try to get some data on going forward. There is a good chance that part of the higher flight is due to the weaker lofts on the longer irons compared to my gamers. Again I'll have to hit them back to back and try to get some data to confirm over the next few weeks.
  3. Congrats to all the testers! I'd never even heard of takomo until earlier this year but after looking them up, I'm definitely intrigued. Looking forward to see what you have to say about them!
  4. Just have a quick update for tonight. I ended up getting to the range for a quick session last Wednesday and I was very happy with how it went. The clubs feel solid at impact and what my eyes were telling me is that the ball flight is a bit higher than my gamers, which is something that would be beneficial for me since I tend to come in steep with a low launch angle. I brought my Mevo with me and plan to review the data later to compare and do some direct head to head comparisons to make sure I'm putting the same swing on the ball with each set. Overall I was a bit inconsistent as it was only my second time at the range this year and I'm definitely not in mid-season form yet. That inconsistency carried over into my round on Friday but the issue was all with my driver and woods. The irons performed well for the first round out, distance seemed the same or better as my Z585s but it was also tough to get a read on things as it was extremely windy and had to be factored in continuously. Going to see if I can get back out again this week & weekend but no guarantees with a soccer tournament occupying my Friday, Saturday & Sunday along with Mother's Day.
  5. Outside of Ferrari and more recently McLaren, none of the F1 teams really have a huge affiliation with the manufacturer whose name is on the team. They are run as their own companies and they get money from the car company side to put their name on the car. These F1 teams all make money, the ones currently on the grid at least. I was unimpressed by the Miami race, overall it was extremely boring. Never want to see anyone get hurt, but I wish something had happened that would have brought out a safety car to stir things up a little. Probably wouldn't have mattered at all anyway as Redbull is unstoppable this year. The FIA should have definitely given them a bigger penalty for violating the cost cap as this 10% reduction in wind tunnel time is essentially meaningless, they will have both titles wrapped up long before they hit what would have been that last 10%. Still plan on going to a race in the next year or two and I can guarantee that it won't be Miami....and probably not Vegas either. Holding my breath the latter will be better but I definitely want to go see a good race with real race fans and not some spectacle that is all just hype around tik tok influencers, Vin Diesel and other mega celebrities. I found it hilarious that Martin Brundle said on air that he spotted Tom Cruise but had been told specifically that he wasn't allowed to talk to him. I have a feeling Vegas is going to be very similar. I'll probably go to Austin but I suppose the Quebec race could be another option.
  6. A few of us did. I went to Golftec not sure about the others. @GolfSpy BOS may have gotten fit at an actual Edel location but I'm not positive.
  7. There are more contests and giveaways than ever before and there are definitely people who "professionally" enter hundreds of them each week to win products to sell but it's still a really small number overall. I bet for every 1 contest winner out there, there are probably 9 counterfeit clubs being sold with some lame excuse like I won it or my wife gave it to me but it's the wrong shaft etc.
  8. I'm always extremely suspect of any brand new club being sold on a secondary market. It just seems unlikely that so many people would ever buy a brand new club, never hit it and then decide to sell it. That just doesn't happen, imo.
  9. @RickyBobby_PR hit it on the head. The spin imparted at contact isn't particularly important as it relates to the spin when it lands, but it dictates what happens to the ball flight. Without enough spin the ball won't reach the proper height and your descent angle will be too shallow to hold a green....this is the problem I have with my swing.
  10. One other take away from the weekend for me was I no longer think Max has matured as much as I thought he had in 2022. Hearing him whine and complain about the minor contact he had with Russell during the sprint just showed to me that he is still a whiny impetulant b*#ch. He dive bombed down the inside of Lewis a dozen times late that season with no hope of ever staying on the racing line or even the track in some cases and had no problem with his own actions but when Russell does it to him, where they were both able to make the corner and stay on the track mind you, he loses his mind because of minor contact. It's one thing to be upset and make a statement over the radio but it's another to still be whining about it laps later and then confront Russell about it after the race. He's been groomed to say the right things in front of the camera but I genuinely believe he thinks he's entitled to race wins because what he's accomplished at such a young age. The guy is immensely talented and if he races long enough he will go down as one of the greatest ever but he is a really unlikable person to me.
  11. I don't think they do anymore. Nothing about it on their site, they may have stopped offering them when they came out with the SMS last year. I think the popularity of one length clubs has kind of fallen off now that Bryson is out of the lime light
  12. So this showed up late Saturday evening .... I was able to resist the temptation to tear the box open until I was able to dedicate the time to really go through everything thoroughly and take proper pics. The irons were packaged inside the Edel box which itself was very sturdy and padded very well to protect the clubs during shipping. Inside the box my build sheet was right on top and listed out the heads I had ordered, the shaft I selected along with the swing weight and toe-center-heel weight configuration I had from my fitting. Also included in the box was a pouch which holds the allen key for adjusting the weights along with the registration card. First thing I did was pull out the irons one by one and inspect each of them. All 8 were immaculate and exactly as you'd expect when purchasing a set of brand new premium irons. One thing I noticed right away that I hadn't really paid attention to in the fitting was the brushed finish Edel uses on these irons. I actually prefer the look opposed to the traditional chrome you see on most irons and I hope it holds up well and hides the typical light scratches you get from normal play. Fit & finish on these is very impressive and the BB&F ferrules are a nice touch. The weather has been nothing but rain the since the irons showed up so I haven't had a chance to get to the range with them yet but hope to tomorrow and I have a round scheduled for Friday, again weather permitting so I'll have more to post after the weekend!
  13. I was more talking about the time on the equipment if they were to rent it, not the total time invested by MGS. I also wasn't thinking of doing a full on most-wanted style testing and I definitely used the wrong words, I meant 20-30 putters not people. I was envisioning like 3-4 putters with 5 different shafts and maybe 3-5 testers from different handicaps doing the testing. I think you could get through that in one day, all the prep and data analysis, write-up, etc would take much longer but that is part of their normal operations.
  14. I have two ER7 putters and the only difference is one has a BGT shaft and the other has the stock shaft. For an amateur like me, the only difference I've really noticed is feel. I don't think I putt noticeably better with one or the other, they just feel different but after some practice I end up in the same place with both. This seems like something they could easily arrange to have tested if that is what they wanted to do. You could rent out a day on someone's Quintec or similar for a pretty small price and run 20-30 people through it in ~10 hours. I'd definitely like to see them do it just to see the data, especially now that there are so many different shaft options out there. I'd like to see the BGT, LA Golf, Accra, KBS, etc options all pitted against each other.
  15. Just finished watching my recording of the race and have to say it might have been the most boring race of the entire season. Hardly any overtakes at all. Other than Redbull getting LeClair at the start and re-start there wasn't a single meaningful overtake until Stroll screwed up at turn 16 and Lewis got him. Then there was nothing again until Lando finally got by Hulkenberg with a few laps to go (which the cameras didn't even catch live). The most exciting part of the entire race was listening to the commentators at the end and waiting for the cameras to pan to the pitlane to see if Ocon was going to hit any pedestrians at 80 mph or whatever.
  16. I'm more like point and spray, at least it feels that way at times. I used to over swing substantially and would then come in really step and out to in with a very closed club face and I still do to some extent but I've gotten the path a little more neutral but still have a closed face. For now good shots go straight and bad ones result in a pull or a draw but because the face is so shut I don't get a ton of spin on the ball so working it is out of the question at the moment. Everyday is like to get a little baby fade just because I think it could be a little more consistent for me than always trying to hit it straight.
  17. I haven't had a chance to go find and watch this video call everyone is referring to, but did they say what they expect the life to be of one of the standard leather gloves?
  18. So the sussex is really a competitor for the FJ Pure Touch and Titleist Players gloves? Very high end with thin leather for good feel but not necessarily a durable glove? I know those other 2 are really meant to only be used 1 round or so which is probably not what most golfers do.....or at least those that aren't getting free gloves and balls from the OEMs.
  19. I'm guessing we all still have a couple of weeks to wait on the clubs since the order just went in a week ago, but you're definitely right. I can't wait to get started!
  20. Yeah something is goofy. Purchased Sunday but it was on backorder until May 11, but then it shipped Tuesday morning however it only lists a 3 lb weight and it's the Titleist Hybrid 14 so it's almost a 7lb bag by itself so I'd expect shipping weight to be ~10lb. Hopefully it gets scanned somewhere today and gets back on track.
  21. Got my introduction and fitting notes up last night. The waiting game is definitely the hardest part....I bought a new stand bag to go with the new clubs and it was supposed to be delivered yesterday but it's no where to be found and the tracking # hasn't updated since Tuesday .
  22. I do think that my fitter might have over done it and @edingc is correct, for me the general results/effect of moving the weight were pretty consistent regardless of shaft. If I were to do it again, I'd probably start with big weight in the center and then add the others to get to appropriate swing weight and test all the shafts. Once I had a shaft selected then start moving the weight to find the optimum location then adjust total weight of head to see if changing SW one way or the other makes an improvement. I don't think it was necessary to go through each shaft expecting a different result with the weight in different positions. In hindsight, I probably should have called Edel and asked them about how they're fitting process works just in case the local fitter wasn't as familiar with the product.
  23. Fitting was a bit of a mess actually. The fitter knew I was coming in solely looking a the SMS irons and I think he did some homework on them on them as I don't believe he was familiar with them beforehand (they didn't even know whether they had the heads when I first called to schedule). He had come up with a plan to try and determine the best position for the heavy weight by having me make swings with just the 8g weight in each spot with each shaft. When he handed the club to me the first time I questioned having only 1 weight in and two empty slots but he said it was to exaggerate the affect of the weight and we would add the others back later in the fitting. I thought it seemed odd, but assumed he was the pro and we proceeded with the fitting (this will be important later). I tend to have a really low ball flight from coming in too steep so in my previous fittings I'm usually looking at lighter weight higher launching shafts and this fitting was no exception. We looked at the steelfiber i95 Stiff and the Tour Lite Stiff and I went through each of them trying the weight in each of the 3 spots. During this phase I was struggling to put good swings on the ball and had a lot of poor strikes. We followed that process through and determined that the steelfibers and center weigh position were the best. We started adding the other weights back in and worked through various options until we arrived at a 2-8-4 (T-C-H) weight configuration and my swings were becoming more consistent. It was getting close to closing and I could tell he was ready to wrap it up as I was the last customer for the day and I asked to try throwing the 10g weight in and he obliged and I had a few more strikes that might have been my best of the evening with more consistency overall then earlier. On that he shut the GC Quad down and we went to the front for me to pay for the fitting and write down the final specs. As I was about to leave I asked him what the final swing weight of the club ended up being and he replied that he didn't know. We took it back and measured it and it came to D1, which was about 2 points lighter than my gamers that he had measured during warm-ups. I inquired about what weights it would take to get me up to a D3 to match what I had been use to swinging and so we played around for another 5 min and determined that a 4-10-6 config would put me at like D2.8 which was close enough. At that point the machines had all been shut down and we were the only 2 left and I had checked my phone to see I had a mini emergency brewing at home so I ended up just leaving. On the drive home I was thinking about the fitting and the final weight configuration and started doing the math in my head and realized that I had 20g of weight in the head to get me to D3 and that when we were doing the entire shaft selection process I had only 8g weight in the head, which was a 12g difference and about 6 SW points. Meaning I did the entire shaft selection with the clubhead at a C7 SW, 6 points lighter than I'm accustomed to. I realized that this could have been a big contributor as to why I was making such poor contact earlier and tried to call them back, but it was now 15 min past close and no one answered so I continued home to deal with my emergency. I also realized that I never actually took any swings with the club in the final weight configuration that we agreed I should order so after some private discussion with the other testers here I decided that I had to go back. Fortunately I didn't have any early meetings the next day and was able to go back as soon as they opened and hop on a bay before their schedule filled up for the day. I hit the steel fiber shaft with the 4-10-6 weight combo and it produced some pretty good swings / strikes, better than any from the night before. I also gave the Tour Lite another chance with the same weight configuration but the steel fibers still won out so I left and was confident that I had the right setup. In the end, I think a big part of this was that the fitter was not very familiar with the Edel weight system. He did make an effort to research them and did have a game plan but I think there was a big flaw with that plan being that he didn't consider what the effects of removing the weights would be on the club swing weight. I believe this was also exacerbated by the fact that the stock D2 swing weight with the standard 2-8-2 weight configuration is probably based on a 120g+ shaft like the regular KBS Tour or the Dynamic Golf S400. When you start getting into really light shafts like I was swinging at 95g and you remove the headweights it has a pretty tremendous effect on the final SW. In the end it didn't end up being a problem, but it certainly could have been had I not been as familiar with swing weights and club building and was able to figure all of this out on my own. It's certainly something I don't think the average golfer would have picked up on, especially since a majority of them have never been fit to begin with. On a more general note, one thing I would say is this fitting took a long time. Since we were limited to the stock options from Edel, I only actually tested out 2 shafts and I knew going in what head I was getting so I went in there thinking it would be quick, but it took awhile to go through and tinker with the weights. I hit a lot of golf balls in those 90 min. I do think that this would be a pretty rough process if someone were to go for a truly brand agnostic fitting. If you were going to hit iron options from Callaway, TM, Mizuno, Srixon, etc and then end up narrowing it down to the Edel heads, I think you would have to be a speed demon to get through it all in the normal time allotted for an iron fitting. You'd also have to have some pretty incredible stamina to hit that many balls in such a short amount of time. I probably hit 2 rounds of balls between warm-up and the testing so I couldn't imagine adding in taking swings from several other brands on top of it all.
