  1. I buy the Srixon Q Star Tour over the Titleist Tour Soft (an excellent ball) for two reasons (1) the Urethane cover on the Q Star Tour and (2) it is much cheaper.
  2. I am already retired, own about as big a house as I need, belong to a country club where I have a good number of friends and have a pretty full wine cellar. So, I am not sure exactly how much my life would change. Certainly, I would give a whole bunch of money to my kids, to siblings and to a number of charities. Maybe buy some expensive art and try a bottle of Romanee Conti. Certainly, I would worry less about money. Certainly, I would travel better (although not necessarily more) - fly in first class, better hotels, more expensive restaurants, etc. But, the main things would be security, caring for family members and giving a lot to charities. I have been pretty lucky and am happy with my life.
  3. Did one and hated the result. Later I found out that I had a strong arch putting stroke and they had fitted me with a face balanced putter. Would not go to Club Champion again.
  4. When I have played both, I have liked the Snell MTB Black more than the X. Most of you seem to like the X more. Why? For me, the Black is longer and I don’t that much difference in my short game.
  5. I think I agree but am not sure. I got fitted by a pro at my country club and this is what he recommended a couple of years ago. I generally like them, but sometimes I wonder if I should have more bounce on at least one of the wedges. When I went through the online fitting on Titleist's web site recently, they recommended different grinds and bounces from what I have. But, it made me wonder how useful it really is. They ask questions like is the sand hard or soft, is the ground hard or soft, etc. Well, if I go by that I need a whole bunch of wedges and change what I use from day to day. Is the sand soft - well it is when it is dry but not after it has rained. Same with the fairways. We tend to water the fairways a good bit (esp. like last year when it did not rain much) so a lot of times the fairways are soft, but other days the fairways are very hard. Makes me wonder about all this grind and bounce fitting stuff. What I think is good about the M grind is it seems to do at least fairly well in a variety of course conditions. And, this seems more practical than having the exact perfect grind for any one day.

Right now, I am deciding between Srixon Q Star Tour and Z Star - great deals on both of these balls. I will use the Q Star Tour to save money unless I find the Z Star better.
  7. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I started playing golf at 13. I played a good bit through 17, on and off during college, law school and my first few years at work, then only once in a great while for 30 years or so raising kids, working, etc. Joined a country club in Rockville, MD about four years ago as I slowed down from work and have improved my handicap from about 23 to 15 since then. I shot in the 80s when I was young, but had not done so for many years until a couple of years ago. Now my average score is between 89 and 90. I am about 65. What do you love about golf? After spending 30+ years inside in an office, the greatest things about playing golf are being outside, smelling fresh air and being with friends. I also like the challenge of trying to get better. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? YouTube videos. I don't know any spies. Where are you from? What is your home course? My home course is Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, MD. Lakewood dates to the 1950s or so, but the course was redone about 15 years ago by Rees Jones, so it is a pretty challenging course. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Right now, the worst thing is that they are closed. Normally, winter is too long. What do you do for a living? Retired. How’d you pick your user name? My initials.
  8. Just got an infomercial for a PRGR Pocket Launch Monitor from "Haney University" for $200. Seems like a great price - IF IT WORKS WELL. Has anyone tried this or know anything about it? Thanks for any help.
  9. For polo shirts, I mostly buy UA. I go to an outlet mall about once or twice a year and get short sleeved and long sleeve shirts on sale. I also like FJ shirts but have many fewer. For pants, I like Adidas, both short pants and long pants. I usually look on the web and can find less popular or discontinued colors at a much cheaper price. I go through the colors say on Amazon or Golf Galaxy or something, click on different colors and then buy the cheapest ones where the color is tolerable. For shoes, I really like FJ. They are most comfortable golf shoes I have worn. My current ones are ContourFit, which has been discontinued. I will be looking for new ones during the season (if we can ever play). Not sure what to replace them with. I need an extra wide width and on the FJ website have been recommended Contour, Fury and Pro. One thing I wish is that I could get new insoles regularly for golf shoes. I find the insoles don't last nearly as long as the shoes. Any thoughts?
  10. Just ordered this from Dick's. https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/sklz-home-driving-range-kit-20slzuhmdrvngrngktrn/20slzuhmdrvngrngktrn I will see if I like it.
  11. I am in my mid-60s and play with a bunch of senior golfers at my club, some of whom are the same age or older than the OP. More and more, I see these people buying XXIO clubs, which are very light-weight and really designed for senior golfers and women. A number of the people who have bought them tell me that they get a lot more distance out of them, although I do know of one guy about 70 with a very aggressive swing who seems to scatter them all over the place - it does go far when he hits it straight. XXIO is owned by Srixon and is big in Asia, but newer to the US. I bought my wife XXIO's woman's clubs about a year ago and the lighter weight really made a difference. She is pretty much a beginner golfer. Another lighter club, at least for a driver, that seems to be made for senior men (I have not tried this yet) is the Titleist TS-1. You might try this one out as well.
  12. I substituted another wedge for my 3 wood. Would rather hit a 5 wood off the deck and my driver off the tee. If I want to make sure I am straight, I choke up on my driver.
  13. Just bought these from Golf Galaxy on line. They have a deal where you buy $75 worth, you get $15 off. Bought the 3 dozen deal plus got a 6 pack at $10 to get over $75. So, ended up with 3 1/2 dozen for about $61 or less than $20 a dozen. Liked last year’s ball so this should be the same or even better. Now I have a lot of golf balls and no place to play.
  14. Costco now has the Zip Navigator for $1299 with a bunch of extras included. https://www.costco.com/CatalogSearch?storeId=10301&catalogId=10701&langId=-1&keyword=mgi I have had one for two years and like it very much.
  15. TaylorMade seems to be marketing their golf balls as the first moderately price golf balls with urethane covers. Yes, I know that they are ignoring DTC balls, but doesn't the Srixon Q Star Tour also have a urethane cover. And, the Srixon is generally cheaper, or can be with all the deals offered on them. How does the TM Response differ from the Q Star Tour?
