I really liked the apex pros they fit well and felt very nice off the face. My only gripe is the black finished looked so good when new, after about 20 rounds they look like trash. They play well no problems but to me the finish is a big part of looking down at my clubs.

I've played a few rounds now with them and I agree, they feel great off the face. That's good to know about the black finish. I really liked the look of those but ended up going chrome, but now I don't regret that decision

  2. I agree with many of the responses above. I use my Vokey 60º most of the time as I can hit many different shots with it, but I will also go with a 52º or even 8 or 9 iron if I want to play a bump and run. Another good resource is Phil Mickelson's instagram account. He has posted quite a few videos with short game tips (not to mention a lot of other great/funny videos).

  3. I'm a little late to this post, but I feel like this might be Rory's best chance. I don't have anything to back up that opinion other than I feel like he tends to play better later in the year. But I would also love to see Rickie finally get his hands on a major

  4. I've been playing the MCCs for the last few years, but one problem I have is if my hands start to sweat I find myself losing traction from time to time. Any recommendations?

... I am not aware of a CK Orange "made for" shaft, although Taylor Made might have one. But the CK Orange is my aftermarket shaft and beat out my Tour Rogue Black 110. I have a CK Pro Orange coming but honestly expect the non Pro version to work better for my swing, but I got a deal that was too good to pass up. That said, I agree there are "made for" shafts that can fit a player as well or better than a more expensive aftermarket shaft.

Yeah, the CK is in kind of an inbetween category I would say. I say made for because it was the shaft that came with my M5. But unlike most made-for shafts, MCA actually posts specs and information about the CK on their website, not just the CK pro. That alone leads me to believe it is still a very high quality shaft, and thus a much better shaft than most stock shafts.

  6. I recently went through a fitting at Club Champion and decided to go ahead and upgrade my irons. Based on the results of the fitting, I am going from a set of Mizuno JPX-EZ Forged to Callaway Apex Pros.

So here's what I'm wondering. Those of you who have made the jump from irons more in the game improvement category to more of a blade, what are the biggest differences you noticed? And how long did it take you to feel comfortable with your new irons?

Bonus question: if you play the Apex Pros, what are your biggest likes and dislikes?

On the course I use Arccos.  It’s amazing. I can put my finger on any spot and get yardage to and left to the hole.  It gives me slope and wind yardages also. I can move pin to anywhere in the green. Give me real-time data of how far I hit each club (must have sensors).  At end of round it give me stats like Fairways, saves, GIR, miss percentages number of putts and keeps track of all rounds to show my trends. GPS  is extremely accurate and guys whom use lasers are usually within a yard of my app.

I second Arccos! Lot's of valuable information to see the areas that you most need to improve. It even recommends a club selection after a certain number of rounds (although I don't always use what it recommends, it's nice because it basis the recommendation on your averages and tendencies).

  8. I just had an experience that changed my thoughts on this. I just went through a fitting at Club Champion, and I went in fully expecting to upgrade my driver shaft (I was even looking forward to it). I had always figured that an aftermarket shaft would improve my driving. But after hitting a number of shaft and head combinations, we discovered that none of the shafts performed any better than my current "made-for" shaft. I play a 10.5º M5 with a Tensei CK Orange 60. The point being, getting fit for the right shaft is more important than just deciding you need to play such and such aftermarket shaft because everyone says it's the best shaft they've ever played. Good luck.

  9. Hey all, I've been a reader of MGS for a few years but this is my first time in the forum so this seemed like a good place to start. So here we go:

    1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?
I've, technically, been playing golf for 20+ years but the amount I've been able to play varies from year to year. My current handicap is 15.

    2. What do you love about golf?
I love the challenge. I grew up an athlete and tended to excel at any sport I took up. Golf on the other hand is the one sport that I just can't seem to figure out.

    3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?
I love the product reviews and find myself coming here more and more when I can't decide which direction to go on something... Not that I know of.

    4. Where are you from? What is your home course?
Northern Colorado. Closest thing to a home course is Highland Hills in Greeley, CO

    5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?
The best things are that most years I can play almost year-round (I can stand playing when it's cold). The worst is that there aren't a lot of options very near. We have three public courses within 10-15 minutes of me, but after that there aren't many more options nearby.

    6. What do you do for a living?
I am on staff at a church.

    7. How’d you pick your user name?
      Um... it's my name 🙂
