  1. It depends what "look good" means. If it means "attractive" then no. But there is definitely a "look" to a putter in terms of alignment (since I strongly prefer mallets) that allows me to more easily see if I'm aligned with my target line. Color for me plays a big part of it - if the alignment aid doesn't incorporate white (either a white alignment line, or a black/colored alignment line on a wider white line) then it doesn't "look good" while I'm standing over it and I'm not comfortable and confident in my stroke.

  2. Do you do it, and are you successful?

Used to golf in your standard Nike running shoes, and my feet would be all over the place off every tee. Still don't own golf shoes, but I wear my Salomon Speedcross 4 GTX trail runners and they are great - the lugs are spaced far enough apart and are long enough apart that I don't have any issues. Plus they're way more comfortable than the Adidas spikeless shoes I tried for a round and a half.

What non-golf shoes do you golf in?

Where in Bellingham do you play? I'm 20 minutes south of there, but would happily head north if you wanted to get a round in. I'm a member at Avalon, and at Skagit country club if you want to play further south sometime.

North Bellingham and Shuksan are my go-tos if I'm playing 18, or Homestead up in Lynden. I'm usually trying to golf on a budget though, so my most played course is Raspberry Ridge, the local par-34 9-hole where you can get $15 super-twilight rounds with free replay (race the sunlight to get a full 18 in!).

  4. Been using MGS for reviews on gear for a while now (I tend to obsess and nerd out over gear in all my hobbies) so I figured I would get in on the forum action. Technically I live just across the border, but work in WA so most of my rounds are in the Bellingham area.

Been playing golf for probably 10 years or so, but only got serious about it in the last couple of years (after I downloaded the GolfShot app and started tracking my rounds). 23 handicap, so I know I suck, but I managed to put up a +13 net score just last Friday while out with my brother (on a par 63 course) so I feel like things are trending up! I was actually hitting even par on the back nine until I double-bogeyed 18, but now I'm anxious to get back out and play another round!
