Which Fairway Woods to Try?

Recommended Posts

I have a fitting coming up.  I'll definitely try Mizuno (love the brand) and Titleist (heard great things and recently dropped prices).  Thoughts on other brands I should make sure to try?

For background my driver swing speed is +-100MPH.  I mostly use 3 wood off the tee, but I'll also need a 5 wood for two specific holes on my home course.

Current 3 wood is a Mizuno ST190 (it may stay).  Current 5 wood is a PXG Gen 4 (I tend to overdraw this, so it will go).

Appreciate the suggestions.

There’s no bad woods on the market, just bad fitting designs which as face, weight and cog.

A fitting isn’t a demo day so you aren’t going to get to hit every possible wood out there with every possible shaft combo. So don’t get disappointed you didn’t get to try certain clubs or shafts

Let the fitter know what you are interested in and then let the process determine what works even if the fitter suggests something not on your preferred list. Of the fitter is good he/she will understand your swing and what you want out of the wood and will use their expertise to get the right setup.

If you just want to try a bunch of heads and see what you like or just to demo heads then go to a store that has demo clubs and hit them there.

I don't have a ton of experience with 5 woods but I just recently got a Rogue ST Max 5 wood and absolutely love it. I would say it's at least worth a couple of hits.

I love Cobra woods. While I haven't gotten as much success with other clubs in their lineup I strongly believe they have some of the best woods (granted I am using ones from 7 or 8 years ago).

I’d second this. I’ve recently changed to a Cobra LTDx 3 wood and it’s awesome

Is the pXg adjustable? Can you change the shaft/tip?

I agree with @RickyBobby_PR. Be up front with the fitter.

Bring yours along as well and see what can, if anything,  be done to maybe correct the over draw issue.

Unless you just have to have new ones!
